hernia-surgery

Avatar f tn I have not responded to medications (Prilosec, Protonix, Pepcid, Nexium, Reglan, Baclofen, Trazodone) for GERD, hiatal hernia. It seems like some people go for many years without considering surgery and I have only been trying meds for about 5 months. The symptoms that seem most difficult to control are the cough, hoarseness, heartburn, and feeling like something is stuck in my chest. Bile reflux is also part of the problem since I had my gall bladder removed 30+ years ago. The dr.
Avatar f tn i have had chronic pain in my lower right abdomen for almost 8 years. what started out as a simple inguinal hernia repair has been a nightmare. the doc put the mesh patch in for "good measure". the adhesions are massive. from many doctors i have been diagnosed as having probably 3 nerve paths trapped in the adhesions. The inguinal, hypogastric and genital femerol nerves are all involved. After years and years of procedures I have not had any pain relief that lasted more than a day.
Avatar n tn but yes you should go to the Dr and discuss your options, especially if your feeling discomfort... majority of hernia repairs are done in day surgery, they are very common and are basically a routine surgery for a lot of Drs... and yes hernias can become bigger...
Avatar m tn You have to be examined by a doctor to know that. See a urologist. Not all urologists do hernia surgery, but he can evaluate all the problems and advise about surgery and do surgery for the other issues if necessary. He will explain all your options and surgery would not be done on the day of the first visit. It's just a consultation.
Avatar f tn 12 years ago I had Exploratory surgery on my abdomen. 2 children CSections ages now 8 and 5. No future children. I had a lower area ventral hernia repaired last July have still been in pain everyday since surgery. Last 4-6 months that pain has increased and moved to the upper region of the incision. New ultrasound more incisional hernias found. My question is what are my options?
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with both Genitofemoral and Iliolingual (sp) nueropathy on my left side. I developed a illiolinqual hernia on the left side and had hernia surgery where a synthetic mesh was placed. Even after the surgery I continued to have pain in my left testicle and inner thigh. A second exploratory surgery was performed to see if the femoral nerve was entrapped in any way with the mesh from the hernia surgery. The nerve appeared free from the mesh.
Avatar f tn It cured that problem but I had severe post surgical complications caused by a virus pushed into my lungs resulting in cardiac and respitory failure and stayed in ICU for a month. Plus due to knick during the lapros. surgery, I had 5 transfusions. I will go through surgery again if necessary but I am hesitant. Any suggestions much appreciated.
Avatar m tn What can I do? I have an extremely painful Hiatal hernia but cannot have surgery due to blood clots. Also, what alternative medicine is recommended? Please help. Thank You.

Avatar m tn Hi and welcome to the GERD forum. I do not know from first hand knowledge, but have read where others have tried a procedure that is done by a Chiropractor...they manually manipulate the area of the hiatal hernia to move it so u have less symptoms. I do not know if ALL chiro's do this, or how often u need to be treated.....but it is not surgery and may be worth a try.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that a moderate sized hiatal hernia can cause breathing difficulties? Could it press on the diaphragm and cause me to have wheezing difficulties? I have a scheduled appointment with a surgeon to see if surgery would be of benefit to me.
Avatar f tn I have sharp abdominal pain to the right of my abdomen about 3 fingers width. It has been there for months and I mainly feel it upon touch. Lately I've felt bloated. I saw an obgyn and ovaries and uterus have been ruled out. My pcp wants to send me for a CT scan of the abdomen. Is she thinkining hiatal hernia possibly caught early?? I am thin, don't always eat the best, not pregnant (my son is 8) . She says its in the area of the ileocecal valve.
Avatar m tn I did not have surgery to repair a inguinal hernia. I had a hiatal hernia. I just didnt know if that could have anything to do with it. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I am a 58 year old male. Two CAT scans show a diaphragmatic hernia on the left side. My stomach is basically under my left breastbone. I have some breathing issues but thought most of those were due to being about 30 pounds overweight. Other than that I had no idea this problem existed. The surgeon said surgery will be through the back, cutting the muscle and putting in a material to hold everything in place. He has only performed 4 or 5 of these surgeries in his 15 year career.
Avatar f tn I went from your symptoms and situation to experiencing a loss of enamel on my teeth and burned vocal cords within a couple month period of time, I'd stay on top of it. The fact that the motility test showed difficulty in swallowing is troubling, as if you 'fail' that test, you won't be a candidate for the Nissen Fundoplication surgery using laparoscopic surgery, it involves more invasive surgical procedures. I'd discuss this with your doctor/surgeon.
Avatar m tn I'm a 47 year old male, a runner, lean fit body. I had hernia surgery a year ago, and since then my testicle on the side of the surgery hangs lower than before. The surgeon just dismissed my concerns saying that it would "take care of itself." Before the surgery my testicles hung evenly, the same height. I'm in great shape, and I have always felt good about my body. I have even modeled for figure drawing classes. But, since the surgery my right testicle is noticeably lower.
Avatar m tn I just had my umbilical hernia surgery 2.5 weeks ago with mesh. If you have the surgery without mesh you could have another hernia as your putting strain down below and it could come through another weak point. It also can get bigger and quite ugly. It is your intestines that you are pushing and squishing back into your body. It's amazing how much we use stomach. Anything you do while working out, you will use your stomach muscles. A support belt would help you out.
415684 tn?1257329318 So I am in no pain. I would just wonder what this surgery would do for your options in the future if you needed another debulking surgery...G*d forbid?? Good luck please keep us posted on what you find out.
1213655 tn?1302149185 My Mom was diagnosed with Ovarian Ca - IIIC in Nov. 2008. She had her debulking surgery at that time, and underwent Chemo after that. Mom was placed in remission in July 2009, with no more Chemo or any other treatments. She has continued to be checked every 2-3 months, and in December 2009, we were told the Ca had returned, recurrent.
Avatar n tn In further discussion what my options were I was advised surgery would be risky because of COPD which is controlled with medication.Would a truss help?Do I have any other choices .Please let me know THKS.
