245285 tn?1220498346 Thanks for your response. I went to the dr and your answer above was right on. I am having hernia surgery this Friday by a general surgeon. He has offered to remove the loose skin when he does the hernia surgery. Is it ok to have skin removal done by a general surgeon? I am concerned because will be making the incision horizontally right along where my belly button was.
Avatar m tn I am a 58 year old male. Two CAT scans show a diaphragmatic hernia on the left side. My stomach is basically under my left breastbone. I have some breathing issues but thought most of those were due to being about 30 pounds overweight. Other than that I had no idea this problem existed. The surgeon said surgery will be through the back, cutting the muscle and putting in a material to hold everything in place. He has only performed 4 or 5 of these surgeries in his 15 year career.
Avatar f tn 12 years ago I had Exploratory surgery on my abdomen. 2 children CSections ages now 8 and 5. No future children. I had a lower area ventral hernia repaired last July have still been in pain everyday since surgery. Last 4-6 months that pain has increased and moved to the upper region of the incision. New ultrasound more incisional hernias found. My question is what are my options?
Avatar f tn My question is... with a hiatal hernia this large, are they going to end up doing surgery??? I am a 48 year old female, 168 pounds and 5'3"....
Avatar n tn Thanks for your post. Just a little more info. I was diagnosed with Crohns in May by colonoscopy so then had a upper gi an small bowel follow through to see if the disease was affecting this area. They didn't see anything to account for the pain. Would a hernia be visible or what is the best way to diagnose this. I also was just diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis 3 weeks ago. Seems my body is falling apart, although up until now I have been a very heathly, active individual.
Avatar m tn I have been experiencing pain on my left side for over a month now. Mostly in the abdominal area but sometimes in my back as well. I went to the doctor and the said it could be my kidneys because I don't drink enough water. Well I've been drinking 80oz. of water a day. Someone advised me that it may be a hernia. I sometimes have a slight dull discomfort in my groin area as well. It's on my left side as well.
Avatar n tn I cant do sit ups at all. I get a buldge in my upper middle in between my rib cage. It so painful I can't move. I have to roll to my side to get up and that's after a few minutes of just lying there. I walk, jog and we have an elyptical I use 3-4 times a week, but it doesn't help my stomach muscles. I have 2 children by c section and I've had surgery for crohns disease so my muscles have been cut. My doctors have teased me that I have an anchor scar.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.

248382 tn?1274938634 I have just been dx with an umbilical hernia. my platelets are 74.3. Not in pain w/hernia. What about hernia surgery while on treatment?
1285120 tn?1273751607 My Gastroenterologist does not think at this time that I require surgery to fix my Hernia. I am on alot of other prescription medications for other health reasons too, which I must take. I had all the test already Upper and Lower GI Series, Endoscope and Fluroscopy. I think I need to have my PH levels checked and plan to ask my Dr. to do so. If anyone else is experiencing something similar your imput would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with a, what the doctor says, is a small sliding hiatal hernia found via endoscopy. I feel like the hernia is much larger than the 2cm he saw on the scope. They make you fast 24 hours before scope which tends to make the hernia "slide" down. Anyway, I have learned self adjustment techniques that help push the stomach back down. It doesn't last long on me but helps. The acid burn is control well via Nexium.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have a hernia, probably not an inguinal hernia, they tend to bulge down into the scrotum. There is another hernia near there, can't remember the name. I have had 6 children with inguinal hernias. Only one of them had pain before we had them repaired...he was 13 and it was bulging into his scrotum. You do not want to wait until you have pain. I personally think your doctor gave you bad advice. A hernia can become a big deal sometimes.
Avatar m tn We thank you for your question! Children can get hernias. A hernia occurs when a part of the intestine pushes through a weakness in the belly (abdominal) muscles. A soft bulge shows up under the skin where the hernia is. A hernia in the groin area is called an inguinal hernia. I wouldn't, however, worry about this unless you see the signs of it. You would likely see a bulge or swelling in the groin area. It's really not common in children. https://www.stanfordchildrens.
1580703 tn?1651904887 The doctor examined me and found a groin hernia and I'm scheduled for surgery in sept. I think I want laproscopic but am I going to end up with permanent pain? will the mesh or non-tension method fail to stop the hernia from progressing? I think it's from the gym or coughing from this tracheotomy I'm getting this crippling nausea sometimes and sometimes protonix helps. is it from the hernia or diabetes or GERD? thanks!
Avatar m tn Have been on Plavix for 13 months and find I need Hernia surgery now as I am having having many problems due to the Hernia. What is the possibility of having surgery? If I have surgery is the Plavix stopped for a number of days and then resumed?
Avatar n tn Hi Jenny, I have a hiatal hernia, but do not require surgery...I have known about my hernia since I was in my teens. I had a few flares that required meds...but, with proper diet and lifestyle I am able to keep it under control without meds. I just got my self off meds after being on them 2 yrs....I had flares from 3 diff surgeries....the meds they use to put u under alone can upset a balanced system.
1103592 tn?1274753561 Any every have a hernia while pregnant? I was complaining the baby's head was so low it was hurting - saw my dr today & it turns out it's a hernia! Grrr- at least baby sounds great (got to hear her hiccups on doplar!). Guess I'll goggle hernias until my surgery consult in 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn In July of 2009 my gallbladder was removed leaving my navel looking the way it did before. In 2012 I started experiencing sharp pains similar to the pain immediately after surgery. Drs ordere CT and ultrasound and blood tests urinalysis all inconclusive. In 2013 a ballon emerged from my navel and Dr suspected a hernia so another round of tests inconclusive. The solution was simply to make an incision in the painful balloon to drain some fluid and pressure.
Avatar f tn Hi, it depends on the extent of meshing that needs to be done. Laparoscopic hernia repair involves the placement of a mesh inside the abdomen without abdominal wall reconstruction. The mesh is fixed with sutures, staples, or tacks. The recurrence rate of the laparoscopic repair is reported as equal or less than that done with the open approach. So, discuss the possibilities with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar n tn I have the exact same problem! I am 39 and have three children. This lump showed up after my second pregnancy. I had my third child without any problem. When I was pregnant and after when I was breastfeeding I did not experience this lump. I assume it was because I was not ovulating. Now that I have been ovulating again for awhile the lump has returned. It is big and very uncomfortable during the days I ovulate. I have been to several doctors.
Avatar m tn I am a 24 year old male who had inguinal hernia repair on left side 3 years ago. Weeks after surgery I as well returned to my surgeon complaining about my right testicle not hanging as low or where it use to hang. He said don't worry about it and to workout, run, do whatever I want at 100%. Well off and on over the past years I get pain in my right testicle still. Any pressure over my surgery repair, and I can feel pain in my right testicle.
Avatar n tn So now about you lump I had the exact same thing and ended up having surgery to deal with it. They thought it was a hernia and they were all ready to deal with that. But to their surprise and not mine as told them what it was. It was in fact a lymphnode that had been taken over by the endmetriosis. It was loaded and this is way normal it appeared to find and un afind able expect during your cycle. As soon as the cycle went to do it. Durning pregnancy and breast feading it remained gone.
Avatar m tn A male lower abdominal hernia? I am no doctor, paramedic and I am no longer a combat lifesaver. I work around a lot of steel. At times I have to hand pull 400 foot lengths of cable threw that steel. The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things.
