Avatar f tn He is opposed to even twilight sedation, so we are looking for a surgeon in Rhode Island or Massachusetts who will be willing to do open surgery on his hernia, using mesh and spinal anesthetic to numb him below the waist. He wants to be awake for the procedure. Please let me know if you know of a surgeon like this in our area, who will be willing to meet his preferences. Thank you.
798548 tn?1237503653 hi all, i am considering going to the chiari center in long island, i am so tired of the doctors here not knowing much about chiari and related conditions. they do not even realize all the symptoms that come with chiari. i have had a decompression that took away symptoms for a few months but now they are all back and have more symptoms i am dealing with also. everytime i see another doctor they put me on another med for pain, headaches, nerve pain etc.
Avatar f tn Hello all - I have surgery scheduled in September and was wondering if anyone here had to take a long flight after their decompression surgery. I have a 6 hour flight (with 2 stops) to Milwaukee and it would therefore be about a 23 hour drive (though DH would have to drive!) and was wondering what would be less torture. I have a hard enough time flying with my regular headaches and it seems that experiencing that kind of air pressure/airport traffic, etc.
Avatar m tn changing docs isnt that easy i live on a very small island only one hospital its very expensive to leave this island. i dont trust the docs here ive heard too many bad stories. the surgery i got was cardiac ablation i think i had tachycardia. i had to go to seattle when i got it. i dont take any meds.
Avatar n tn Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
Avatar m tn Have been on Plavix for 13 months and find I need Hernia surgery now as I am having having many problems due to the Hernia. What is the possibility of having surgery? If I have surgery is the Plavix stopped for a number of days and then resumed?
Avatar f tn Just cleaning off kitchen island or eating can sometimes raise pulse rate to 109. Could this also be caused by hernia? Thanks for any comments.
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
1103592 tn?1274753561 Any every have a hernia while pregnant? I was complaining the baby's head was so low it was hurting - saw my dr today & it turns out it's a hernia! Grrr- at least baby sounds great (got to hear her hiccups on doplar!). Guess I'll goggle hernias until my surgery consult in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn Why have you decided against bypass surgery? blockages of 90,99,90% are severe and he could end up with a lot of dead heart muscle, causing heart failure. If the hernia isn't causing major problems, I would leave it alone. In many cases surgery isn't a long term fix. Just coughing can cause the muscle to re-open and cause the hernia again. I have a small one and the recommendation was to leave it alone.
Avatar n tn I had an open repair of inguinal hernia. Incision is approximately 4 inches long. How long will I have pain and tenderness with this? I have no fever, and have already had followup with the surgeon with no return scheduled.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar f tn Hello. Long story short I will be having hernia surgery soon. I recently started the dental implant process last year and it got infected. The infection was treated and now as far as they know I am infections free, now I just have to finish the dental implant process. My question is.
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery a year ago, not too long after the surgery i realized that it was back. I didn't think anything about it, but the past month I have had really bad pain, worse pain than when I got it fixed the first time. The doctor just used permanent sutures the first time, is there any way that I could have this surgery without having to have the mesh screen put in this time? Also, my abdominal muscles are separated pretty bad, could I ask the general surgeon about diastasis repair?
2042217 tn?1336527852 You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged. Once back home avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for at least the first two weeks, light exercise like walking can be done. The recovery time varies person to person and depends on your general health condition and extent of hernia.
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
1577722 tn?1310624684 t really feel it but that was typical of a c-section hernia. I am due to have surgery in March. After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs. I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse. It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way.
Avatar f tn Hi. Iam 32 years old. Before 12 years i had a minor surgery fixing the umbilical hernia right above my navel. During last period of time i was living normal life doing all physical activities as others after fixing my hernia. But now its back again and i can see it while i am coughing or when i pull in my abdomon. I am being fat and overweight since last 6months(height:170cm, weight:90kg).
Avatar m tn In August I had a second traditional open surgery for the same hernia...During the winter it also failed..I am wondering whether to try surgery again with all the misery and difficulty or try to live with it with a truss..The surgeon insists that this has not happened in 500 such operations and that additional surgery will require considerably more work and methods due to all the mesh involved. I am very active and need input...Please offer suggestions....
Avatar n tn Thought it was something wrong with my ovary and went to my ob/gyn and she diagnosed a hernia and sent me to a surgeon and sure enough it was a hernia. I had outpatient surgery to fix the problem and I have had no problems since. I would advise going to the doc an having them check it out.
Avatar f tn My question is... with a hiatal hernia this large, are they going to end up doing surgery??? I am a 48 year old female, 168 pounds and 5'3"....
Avatar m tn well, most hiatal hernias do not need surgery, and there are simple things to do to help if it bugs you,,,try elevating the head of your bed several inches, this keeps the stomach pushing downward,,and not from pushing up into the hernia. when it gives you pain,,try drinking a big glass of water, this often helps also. as far as a sliding hernia, ive NEVER heard of this before.,,though i am not a doc,,me and my father both have one,and i kinda know more then most on this subject.
Avatar f tn So to start I am a spinal patient, have nerve damage relating to a spinal surgery I had almost 10 years ago. It's expected that my digestive system will run slower than normal. Unrelated about a year ago I had an abdominal hernia repaired, I though perhaps my symptoms were related to that, at the time before the repair I had all standard bloodwork done and a CT scan which noted nothing unusual aside from the hernia.
Avatar m tn My boyfriend had hernia surgery over 2 years ago, since the surgery he has a lot of pain during and after sex. It is to the point he doesn't want to get off, because that is when it hurts the worst. Is there something he can do to correct this problem.
