Avatar n tn Does a local anesthetic for eye surgery promote faster healing of the eye versus a general anesthetic? Sue 1.30.
Avatar m tn Like dental work or any local anesthesia its possible. The amount of discomfort is usually greater with topical anesthesia than injection anesthesia. Most people (not everyone) have no pain or little pain which is mild and fleeting.
Avatar n tn It depends on the preferences of the surgeon and the patient. The local anesthesia injection was very effective at eliminating any sensation of pain for me during two retinal surgeries (ERM peels). Supplementary IV sedation can also be provided to reduce anxiety, to produce sedation, and to eliminate any memories of the surgery. General anesthesia might also be used for very anxious or uncooperative patients.
Avatar f tn Has anyone out there ever had to receive more then general and/or local anesthesia? I read that sometimes, so the patient does not cough or move during surgery, there will be a tube put down their thoat to be put on a breathing machine. This scares me - if anyone has had this done or know why its necessary or the pros & cons, please reply.
Avatar m tn The risk of serious problems including death and the expense involved are always higher with general anesthesia than local. Moreover patients done under general often still have double vision. My 6 research papers have highlighted that it's important that hyaluronidase be added to the local anesthesia to reduce risk of double vision and muscle damage.
Avatar m tn Can strabismus surgery be done using local anesthesia and what are the advantages or disadvantages if any?
Avatar n tn It is going to be a local anesthetic with the surgery being at 1pm. The doctor told me that the procedure lasts and about an hour. My question is can I drink alcohol that night, say around 8pm. What side effects will happen with just a local anesthetic. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My friend was scheduled for hernia surgery today, but it was canceled because he used methamphetamine two days ago. What are the risks of interaction between methamphetamine and anesthesia and how long should he abstain before it's safe to have surgery?
Avatar m tn I had 2 surgeries with local anesthesia and experienced no pain at all. IV sedation was used for administering the local. You could have IV sedation throughout the procedure if you wanted. This alternative is much safer than general anesthesia, and your recovery will be SO much easier. In my geographic area, general anestheisa is only used with children and uncooperative patients. I would never go with this option if something else were possible.
2042217 tn?1336527852 With a good abdominoplasty there are chances that the belly button will be normal in appearance after surgery. After surgery you can go home once the effect of anesthesia wares off. You may leave the same day but if the hernia was large you may be asked to stay in hospital for aday. After surgery your vital parameters will be monitored and depending on the parameters you will be discharged.
Avatar m tn When I first decompensated after having anesthesia for an unrelated condition I had one very bad case of ascites where my abdomen expanded so far I found it hard to breath or eat as most of the space in my abdomen was filled with fluid. The episode created a hernia and deformed my belly button. As I have ESLD surgery to repair it is really the least of my problems.
Avatar n tn I recently had a surgery for a umbilical hernia. I was put under general anesthesia for the procedure. I have been recovering for 4 days, and am still getting dizzy and not able to focus real well. With one eye I am seeing things that look embossed, 3D like which makes me sick due to me not being able to focus well. My wife said my spo2 level fell into the lower 40% while in surgery. I am not for sure the duration I was in this range.
Avatar f tn t imagine your doctor would do this under local anesthesia, but I suggest you talk to him before the surgery to get your questions, and your fears, addressed.
3210170 tn?1346884553 Hi. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon for hernia surgery. I have doubts about a general surgeon's ability to perform a laparoscopic bilateral procedure. Several reputable sources note that this surgery has a steep learning curve and that <200 surgeries per year would ensure enough experience. How do I find out a surgeon's experience? Are there accrediting organizations for specific procedures?
Avatar n tn General anesthesia would only be used in a patient that is combative (eg mental illness, Alzheimer's disease, infant or child. Local anesthesia is much less dangerous, less expensive, and its very hard to justify doing anyone under general. Also many surgicenters just cannot do general because they have a RN do the anesthesia not a MD anesthesiologist.
Avatar m tn For teeth extractions local or general anesthesia, but also stated all treatments are under local or general anesthesia.
Avatar m tn I just had a prostata (TURP) surgery under full anesthesia. Since then I have flies-like shadows in one eye. Could that be a consequence of anesthesia or surgery? Thanks hugo. 1677180 tn?1304453354 I had cataract surgery 5 years ago in Paducah, KY without any sedation, just local/topical anesthesia. Everything went fine with great results. I am ready to get my other eye done in Columbia SC and can't seem to find a doctor/facility that will do it without an IV sedation. Has anything changed in this time that would now require sedation? Is there any special requirement in SC?
Avatar m tn So, does anyone have any experiences with doing this kind of surgery without full anesthesia, but just with IV line and local at the knee (or similar)? If so, would appreciate hearing your experience with it. Thanks!
Avatar m tn He said there was a 10% chance I might die because of problems with my hep c liver damage and how anesthesia may make my liver shut down during surgery.I told him that my quality of life was zero now but that made no difference. Can anyone help me decide the right thing to do? I can't walk more than a block without hernia pain and my stomach has swelled up till I am now 237 lbs.,after being 190 just three months ago! I am a 60 year old male.
1327080 tn?1274935215 im about to have a surgery to have a polyp removed from my nose and they are using anesthesia, i think i may be pregnant very earlt in my first trimester. will this hurt my baby or affect the pregnancy?
10547830 tn?1410964293 Yes surgery is the only way. A hernia occurs when an extra piece of muscle tissue breaks through the surface and bubbles up. If they rupture it can cause a blood infection. I have bilateral inguinal hernias, and will have to have surgery at some point to have them both removed. Just putting it off bc I react so badly to anesthesia.
