They did a CT scan and found he has a CDH (congenital diaphragmatic herniacan) He was on oxegen as an infant and had bad acid reflux. How did they miss this? Has anyone ever heard of someone having this in teens? They are sending him to a surgern.

He had a eccho and the doctor said it looked fine just a small leak in a valve but he said nothing to worry about, he had a abodominal ultrasound since he has a hernia from sternum to bellybutton and now he is to have a ct scan due to his large head size, his body has been 25th percentile and his head off the charts. One of the dr's he saw said if his head size remained large he should see a neaurologist.
My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
the doc said he noticed on my x ray that I have a diaphragmatic hernia. I asked him how I got that (I had never heard of it) and he said he suspects it was congenital. He said he looked at x ray from 5 years ago and it was also there. Two docs disputed at that time whether I had pneumonia or there was something else on the x ray. I have always had shortness of breath and breathing issues since I was an infant. Could this be the cause? I eat healthy, am at a healthy weight, and work out.
Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
Hello and welcome to the forum. We thank you for your question! Children can get hernias. A hernia occurs when a part of the intestine pushes through a weakness in the belly (abdominal) muscles. A soft bulge shows up under the skin where the hernia is. A hernia in the groin area is called an inguinal hernia. I wouldn't, however, worry about this unless you see the signs of it. The pain doesn't occur often, and I can't remember the last time it happened, but today I was working out doing relatively heavy squats, 285 5x5 for what it's worth, and on my last set and last rep I felt an extremely sharp stabbing pain. I was struggling on this last rep, what could have happened? I've had Chlamydia in the past (nearly a year ago) and had that treated... all is good; however, I'm very worried about STDs - almost in a hypochondriac fashion.
Hi Jenny, I have a hiatal hernia, but do not require surgery...I have known about my hernia since I was in my teens. I had a few flares that required meds...but, with proper diet and lifestyle I am able to keep it under control without meds.
I just got my self off meds after being on them 2 yrs....I had flares from 3 diff surgeries....the meds they use to put u under alone can upset a balanced system.
I have already planned the surgery to fix the hernia for next week . 2 days ago I had an ultrasound which showed that I have gallbladder sludge and maybe some very small stones . I never had any pains in the stomach and the only thing that might be a symptoms is some digestive problems . The doctor advised that since I am going to surgery for the hernia I should proceed with the removal of the gallbladder .
I need gallbladder surgery in the near future. I have abdominal meshing and want to know if they can do laproscopic surgery on me or not. ANYONE have my issue?
I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Does this mean surgery failed? is hernia back (now they are referring to this as a paraesophageal hernia) The doctors never told us herina might be back so I am wondering when I see x-ray report and it shos Pre-demonstartion of hernia, does that mean there is a new issue or they are seeing repaired hernia?
is it typical that Nissen wrap would slip so soon after surgery?
Bottom line I went into get gallbladder removed now I need OPEN Hernia surgery to repair inguinal hernia. (My internist agrees the gas probably pushed the hernia out. Painful bulge,burns sometimes, but seems to go back in when I sleep and pops out next day.) Can gas cause this and if my surgeon read prior scans (he didnt) what could have been done differently. I am sure I am not the first patient to have suffered from gas-induced hernia.
Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....
A male lower abdominal hernia? I am no doctor, paramedic and I am no longer a combat lifesaver. I work around a lot of steel. At times I have to hand pull 400 foot lengths of cable threw that steel. The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things.
Looks like a pocket of pus. I would recommend reconsulting the physician who did the LS (Laparoscopic Surgery).
