Avatar n tn I have been recently told by my doctors that I have a paraesophageal hernia. They don't want to do the surgery since I have had so many already: diaphragmatic hernia when born, repair of the diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal adhesions, flundoplacation, and hitial hernia. They said for now it doesn't show any sign of strangulation or getting worse. So my question is should I still try for a baby or will this hernia cause me a lot of issues with pregnancy?
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
1395792 tn?1358115792 I just got the essure done and am praying that with the tubal I had plus the essure I wont get preggo again. So because I had a million kids lol I have a rather large hernia down there :{ so they are going to remove it and doe vaginal reconstruction. Its supposed to be like a brand new va jay jay (sp?) Avatar f tn You should have had a upper GI Barium Swallow to see if there is a hiatal hernia. However, I had this and it showed not hernia. When I had surgery for the funoplication wrap for my valve they discovered a hiatal hernia so bad that my valve and stomach were in my upper chest cavity. With a hiatal hernia it can cause breathing problems so bad that I got panic attacks with them. Also, it might be your asphogus is raw.
Avatar f tn I have an incisional hernia. Had a gall bladder surgery and this being my 3rd kids in 3 1/2 years it caused the scar tissue to rip open. I have to have surgery after the baby is born. I do believe m most umbilical hernias self correct though. Good luck.
454221 tn?1259445739 I'm almost 34 y/o. Have 4 kids. After the 4th pregnancy I now have an umbilical hernia that I would like to repair, but I might also need an abdominoplasty as well. Has anyone had an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck? Would like to know how the recovery part of it was afterwards. How much pain? Very nervous to do this. I'm not a fan of going under the knife. Want to know the risk involved? I've been told that abdominoplasty is one of the high risk surgeries for blood clots.
Avatar n tn I know the pain your going through and I understand what your saying. I had surgery for a hernia on July 3rd 2000 while I was in the Marines. After surgery it has never been the same to this day. I have been going to the VA hospital in Nashville Tn since 2002. All they have done is give me anti depressant medicine talked to a shrink and they also did some injections which I think has made it worse. So I decided to get other opinions by civilian doctors.
Avatar n tn The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. So, as you wait for the surgery try to lose weight and if a diabetic, see that it is adequately controlled. But if you develop pain or redness or any signs of inflammation, please consult your doctor immediately. And the cosmetic repair of the abdomen could also be done with the hernia repair. But please discuss the various options with your doctor prior to surgery.
Avatar n tn I was told to wait until I am done having kids to get it fixed. After my 2nd (and final) child, I also got diagnosed for Diastasis Recti. It is a wide separation as the surgeon I consulted was able to get 5 fingers in between the muscles. The surgeon told me normally he would fix the hernia laparosocpically, but he is concerned that without the muscle behind it, the procedure might not hold.
Avatar m tn I had surgery for an inigual hernia on my right side ,open surgery. on january of 2007, soon after the surgery i started getting pain in my right testicle and severe cramping in my stomach area and extreme pain. I have seen 2 surgeons since the first surgery, the first surgeon thought it might be caused by the inigual nerve. On january 2008 i had surgery to have the nerve cut. It did not help and the pain in my testicle and groin area, as well as my abdomain has been getting worse.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar n tn Since your sperm count is borderline, it would be better to discuss alternatives to surgery for correction of the varicocele. This includes radiographic embolization. "A hydrocelectomy is typically performed on an outpatient basis with no special precautions required. The extent of the surgery depends on whether other problems are present. If the hydrocele is uncomplicated, the doctor makes an incision directly into the scrotum.

Avatar n tn Now, after the first surgery, it did not take long for the hernia to grow fast so the resolution was to take the hernia out, than the bulge grew back, she went back to the dr who than said it was her gallbladder and a hematoma, now the bulge is back just like the last time and growing, is this due to a blood defiency disease or is this fatal? I am really worried about her even though her dr knows about it and is nonchalant about it.
Avatar n tn If by chance at the back of your mind you ever feel surgery may be necessary, then leaving a good gap between his neuter surgery and possible hernia surgery should be fine for him.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar m tn What can I do? I have an extremely painful Hiatal hernia but cannot have surgery due to blood clots. Also, what alternative medicine is recommended? Please help. Thank You.
544906 tn?1291345405 Didnt she already have surgery a few weeks ago?? I had umbilical hernia repair surgery about 4 weeks before I got pregnant with Taylor, it hurt like heck, I hope they give you some strong painkillers for Cadee (love the nick name) Im sure she will be back to her old self soon after her surgery. Prays for Cadee!
Avatar n tn Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
Avatar m tn Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.

18663 tn?1198171815 5. The hernia contains intestine that could become entrapped in it. You can only know this for sure after being examined by a doctor and possibly having a CT (CAT) Scan That being said, it’s probably best to be examined by a general surgeon or a hernia specialist to see if you meet any of the above criteria.
Avatar n tn If factors like straining activities, constipation etc persist, then they enlarge faster. Surgery is the treatment opted for when the size is large and hernia is symptomatic. Having said that, I would also say that the earlier it is repaired, the better it is. There are belts available for umbilical and paraumbilical hernias which you can wear to minimize pressure on the hernia. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Have been on Plavix for 13 months and find I need Hernia surgery now as I am having having many problems due to the Hernia. What is the possibility of having surgery? If I have surgery is the Plavix stopped for a number of days and then resumed?
1580703 tn?1651904887 The doctor examined me and found a groin hernia and I'm scheduled for surgery in sept. I think I want laproscopic but am I going to end up with permanent pain? will the mesh or non-tension method fail to stop the hernia from progressing? I think it's from the gym or coughing from this tracheotomy I'm getting this crippling nausea sometimes and sometimes protonix helps. is it from the hernia or diabetes or GERD? thanks!
