Avatar n tn Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....
Avatar n tn Hi Jenny, I have a hiatal hernia, but do not require surgery...I have known about my hernia since I was in my teens. I had a few flares that required meds...but, with proper diet and lifestyle I am able to keep it under control without meds. I just got my self off meds after being on them 2 yrs....I had flares from 3 diff surgeries....the meds they use to put u under alone can upset a balanced system.
Avatar f tn I am having surgery to repair a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone had this done recently? What can I expect? Is it in and out surgery, how long were you out of work, what could you eat, etc.?
Avatar n tn If by chance at the back of your mind you ever feel surgery may be necessary, then leaving a good gap between his neuter surgery and possible hernia surgery should be fine for him.
Avatar m tn t like to do surgery unless absolutely necessary with hiatal hernias. If yours can be controlled by diet and occassional medication I would go that route. Also try strengthening/tigthening up your abdominal area this might help a bit. If it is slipping through then they will consider surgery.
Avatar m tn By modifying your diet and by eating healthy you can avoid having to go for surgery. If a patient has to much abdominal fat, it makes Laparoscopic surgery much more complicated and some times even impossible and then Surgeon has to do Open Fundoplication with more risks and even more complications. Make the decision today to go and see a Dietician and get on a healthy eating plan - almost like Weighless - by eating 5-6 small meals during the day and avoiding acid triggers.
Avatar n tn i get them every time i eat and its been two months sice surgery and everyone laughs because they last for like 15 min it really weird molly
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed ten days ago. Also had hernia repair at the same time. I was on an all liquid diet for the first 5 days. I have been on "regular food" for about 5 days now. I am very constipated. Having very small or no bowel movement. Strangely enough I have not had any pain or bloating. Could this be because I have not been eatting very much or is it a sign that something is wrong?
Avatar m tn A male lower abdominal hernia? I am no doctor, paramedic and I am no longer a combat lifesaver. I work around a lot of steel. At times I have to hand pull 400 foot lengths of cable threw that steel. The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things.
Avatar f tn I went from your symptoms and situation to experiencing a loss of enamel on my teeth and burned vocal cords within a couple month period of time, I'd stay on top of it. The fact that the motility test showed difficulty in swallowing is troubling, as if you 'fail' that test, you won't be a candidate for the Nissen Fundoplication surgery using laparoscopic surgery, it involves more invasive surgical procedures. I'd discuss this with your doctor/surgeon.
1654177 tn?1319838494 I have not had it and do have a hiatal hernia and have found with modifying my diet and lifestyle I can get it under control.....stress will trigger the symptoms to flare.... I know when symptoms are flaring it is important to not only take the meds, but avoid those foods and bevs that affect this condition....that also means to try to relax as well....find ways to reduce your stress and anxiety.
Avatar f tn ve developed a hiatel hernia since the surgery and my reflux is worse than before the surgery. I did not have a hiatel hernia before the tif procedure. He wants me to undergo the Nissen Fundoplication now. Has anyone else had issues like this after the TIF procedure? I'm only 23, I'm 5'7'' and I weigh 135 pounds so he told me before I was the ideal candidate for this procedure.
Avatar m tn That is listed as very important. Controlling it through diet and weight control is hard since the hernia is involved. Important to do that too but consider medicine for the Gerd. Here's an article on how they treat a hiatal hernia. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hiatal-hernia/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20373385 Hyperplasia of the mucosa can also be caused by some type of obstruction, IE the hernia.
Avatar m tn I have to ask how bad is ur GERD u feel the need to have this surgery?I have a hiatal hernia and just wondered at what point people seek this option.
Avatar f tn I now have a 5.1 cm hiatal hernia, and my GERD is just as severe as prior to my surgery. I have been on 60 mgs of Nexium in the morning and 40 mgs of Zantac in the evening for three years. My Physician's Assistant has chosen to use 40 mgs of Priolosec for the hernia.
Avatar m tn user_app_id=3 Ur dr should be able to help u with this better than I can as I have not had the procedure.....I am able to watch my diet in order to avoid the surgery....if it gets worse, I will try the chiropractor manipulation of the hernia first. The lasting effects of this is diff for each person as there may be restrictions from the surgery u must be aware of....ur dr will inform u on all of those.
Avatar m tn but I had surgery and the meds/drugs used for surgery caused a flare and this time the prilosec did not work and I am on a RX strenght of pepcid which is working great.I am slowly cutting back on the meds and with diet again I know I will be med free. If after a month u feel no improvement ask ur dr to re evaluate the meds .......
1199621 tn?1265359349 I'm sorry, I'm not a doctor, so I can't answer your question. I would doubt that they can just "pop" the hernia back into place, but I know of people who have had surgery to repair hernias. You will need to talk to your doctor about that. Regarding exercises that are safe for it -- I really can't answer that either because I don't know how much pressure it can take.
Avatar n tn I have had a CT scan and an ultrasound, and they cannot see a hernia. Yesterday the surgeon told me I do not have a hernia, and this was instead a diseased gallbladder which I need to have surgically removed sooner rather than later, and the CT scan was pretty clear on that as it was full of stones and sludge. I do not have any of the typical gallbladder symptoms. I am worried that I will have my gallbladder removed only to find out my pain was from a hernia.
1285120 tn?1273751607 My Gastroenterologist does not think at this time that I require surgery to fix my Hernia. I am on alot of other prescription medications for other health reasons too, which I must take. I had all the test already Upper and Lower GI Series, Endoscope and Fluroscopy. I think I need to have my PH levels checked and plan to ask my Dr. to do so. If anyone else is experiencing something similar your imput would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn really reconsider the surgery for this....try meds and the changes in diet and all the other tips first...so many have difficulty after the surgery and consider it as a last resort. Please see the Health Pages for tips and foods to avoid... http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?
Avatar m tn Basically I need to reduce this valve between the stomach and the oesophagus from my last endoscopy made the 27/06/2009 it was 1,5cm of diameter I don't know now, for me it doesn't matter how, yes I know already all this kind of methods you wrote down thank you so much again
Avatar f tn I have not responded to medications (Prilosec, Protonix, Pepcid, Nexium, Reglan, Baclofen, Trazodone) for GERD, hiatal hernia. It seems like some people go for many years without considering surgery and I have only been trying meds for about 5 months. The symptoms that seem most difficult to control are the cough, hoarseness, heartburn, and feeling like something is stuck in my chest. Bile reflux is also part of the problem since I had my gall bladder removed 30+ years ago. The dr.
1666825 tn?1303252659 There is a manual manipulation of the hiatal hernia that may help to see if it is the hernia...at least b4 u consider surgery.....check around ur area for a chiropractor that specializes in this....but do have ur heart checked first to be sure there is nothing else going on, and that ur GI agrees.
1910752 tn?1329490222 I have a hiatal hernia, GERD, IBS, chronic gastritis and b12 deficiency. In 2010 I had an endoscopy and my gastro doc stretched my esophagus at that time, but it looked yesterday like food was still getting stuck lower in my esophagus. So I will have to let him know about that. I also have malabsorption issues, had my gall bladder out in 2007 because it basically stopped functioning at all.
