Common Questions and Answers about Hernia surgery cost dogs

hernia-surgery

Avatar f tn I think that the kind of hernia surgery you are looking at it is a relatively simple surgery, as far as surgery goes. I don't think the dog will have to be put under deep anaesthesia, the procedure is something that is done close to the surface, and it is a fairly quick operation. I would expect a healthy dog to recover well. Your boy might have some activity restrictions while he is recovering, to keep him from pulling the stitches loose and undoing the procedure.
Avatar n tn Yorkshire Terriers are extremely difficult to bred, hernia or not. These are VERY tiny dogs, and the problems that come along with breeding them can end up costing you not only thousands of dollars, but they can also cost you the life of your dog and/or her puppies. If you look at the Yorkshire Terrier breed standard as written by the AKC (American Kennel Club), it tells you that a Yorkshire Terrier should weigh between four and seven pounds. A three pound Yorkie is EXTREMELY small.
Avatar n tn If by chance at the back of your mind you ever feel surgery may be necessary, then leaving a good gap between his neuter surgery and possible hernia surgery should be fine for him.
Avatar f tn If the pet is already spayed or neutered, repair of the hernia will require another surgery. Or, if a female has a recessed or immature vaginal area it is best to wait until the vaginal area matures before spaying to help avoid urinary and vaginal infection problems. This problem cannot be assessed if the pet is already spayed early.
Avatar f tn My question is since my dog was neutered what could have caused him to get the hernia? I thought neutering male dogs kept them from getting this type of hernia.
Avatar n tn How strange, I responded to you several weeks ago, but it looks like it never posted. Hope you are recovering well from your repairs!! My surgeon was incredibly confident, telling me basically I could walk dogs the day I went home from surgery (not that I'd want to, I think he was just making a point as to how strong his work was).
14789551 tn?1436522262 effective to have a treatment done in India? Does Laparoscopic Hernia Repair In India is really at low cost?
7444176 tn?1390859012 I am very afraid and sadden by his condition, perineal hernia. He had surgery a couple weeks before X-mas a year ago, thankful it has only been one. But the vet never told me before or after costly surgery that this would be life long. I excepted the challenge because the love I have for my animal. I have tried everything from peas and carrots in his food, fiber, laxatives, olive oil, psyllium seed, etc.
Avatar n tn Our dogs intestinal surgery was about $3000 (but was several years ago). The vet did let us make payments...it took a long time to pay it all off. I think $5000 seems pretty high, though. Our dog had lots of complications, 4 days in the hospital, more than a week of IV antibiotics...lots of things. There is a program called CareCredit (you can google it) that is a credit card that can only be used for either vet bills or medical bills. You could see if you qualify.
Avatar n tn Some vets are alot like people doctors. Surgery, surgert, surgery.
Avatar n tn I had a few umbilicar hernia operations, the last surgery a mesh was placed in my stomic. Years later I noticed my stomic is geting larger and larger and it is very hard, I was told i need two doctors one for the hernia and the other for the diastasis abd wall. My questions are - 1 would my insurance pay? 2- Do you know of a good Doctor. - Is it a diffacult operation?
1322711 tn?1278415855 I had gone to my doctor who sent me to ER thinking it was a hematoma from the surgery, tumor, or hernia. I had a CT scan done in ER and it showed up clean. Next step was my OBGYN who did an ultrasound. That came back clean. I was then sent to a GI doctor who did a colonoscopy and that also came back clean. I then went to a laparoscopy specialist who did not find anything either. I finally went to a general surgeon who also found nothing.
Avatar f tn Hello, I used to have extreme pain in the left lower abdomen area (groin area), which was the result of a hernia. I had surgery in July and that took all the pain away. Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, the same exact pain came back. For the past few days, Ive had extreme sharp pain in the same area. I went to the surgeon who fixed my hernia, and she proclaimed that "there is no way the pain is from the hernia".
942162 tn?1245428214 The risks of a diaphragmatic hernia depend on the size of the hernia. If it's large, chances are internal organs will eventually find their way through the hole and become strangulated, leading to emergency surgery to save the pet's life. If it's small, the pet can go its entire life and live a normal number of years and never have a problem with it. I don't know why it would cost thousands of dollars to repair, however.
442658 tn?1563386491 i picked up the pup and was told all the pups( litter of 8 ) had hernias. the male dogs went away but 2 females still had the hernia. i m going to take her to my vet to find out about it..thanks...
Avatar n tn I have seen too many ear infections be let go by people and the dogs wind up having to have surgery to remove the entire ear canal it's a shame! Look at earlier posts of mine for allergy suggestions too. Controlling and maintaining allergies is hard work but necessary for quality of life!
Avatar f tn Looked through the link Karla referenced and cannot believe some of the charges and some of those were years ago. I do know it can depend on the Vet and where you live. My Vet has always been pretty reasonable over the many years I gave gone to him. However, with the population growth here and him updating his clinic and equipment, etc, I now pay twice what I used to for teeth cleanings! That being said, friends of mine in different areas of the country can pay 2 -3 times what I pay here.
Avatar m tn No you can't use human toothpaste for dogs. I think there's something in it which is toxic for dogs. The best toothpaste I've found is "Virbac" I think it's made in Germany, and is available where I live in England. It doesn't need rinsing, which so I've heard, some of them do. It contains enzymes which work on plaque bacteria and keep the gums healthy. I don't know if you can get that where you live?
1169557 tn?1263270893 My mother had the gastric bypass surgery about 3 years ago. The operation went horribly wrong and she almost died on the operation table. Fortunately she was able to make it through (barely) and faught for her life. She was in hospital for weeks until she was sent home. Even when she was sent home she was on bed rest with a feeding tube and cathater attatched.
Avatar f tn s age, surgery would be the best thing - but clearly, this can be unattainable given the cost. The problem would be if - in later life - Joey goes deaf. Losing one sense can be manageable, but when a dog loses both sight and hearing, it substantially impairs their quality of life. I think you should perhaps do some research, find out how much surgery might cost (even doing one eye first, then the other when finance is available) and take some time to consider your options. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Dialysis for dogs has been available for about 10yrs. The cost is often prohibitive for most people, being around £25,000 for the initial treatment alone. Kidney transplants are also now available for dogs, though their success is not guaranteed - and in fact they are far less successful than in cats having the same operation. It may be difficult to find a canine medical centre able to offer this unusual treatment, but they are out there if you do your research.
Avatar f tn t growing correctly is being blocked by a joint as the other bone is continuing to grow. We were told that surgery for the leg was going to cost around 2000 to 3000 dollars. Unfortunately, I wasn't there for the second vet visit so I never got the name of Max's condition. The details that were given to me about the condition was told by my parents and they can't tell me the name of his condition. Based on the vague information given, what would be the condition of Max's leg?
