Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery 3 weeks ago in my abdomen and now I am experiencing pain and swelling to the right of the incision. There is so much pressure there and the area is rock hard. I called my surgeons office and they said it might be a fluid build up and to try a heating pad. The heating pad worked to reduce the swelling and pressure for the next two days, but does not seem to be working anymore.
Avatar f tn i was hospitalized the next day for complications from hernia surgery. since then i have had problems and now im bleeding vaginally which i shouldnt be considering i dont have a period from a hysterectomy. i told my doctor and she said it was from irritation where my ovary was removed but the bleeding went from spotting to a light period. what should i do?
Avatar m tn Bottom line I went into get gallbladder removed now I need OPEN Hernia surgery to repair inguinal hernia. (My internist agrees the gas probably pushed the hernia out. Painful bulge, burns sometimes, but seems to go back in when I sleep and pops out next day.) Can gas cause this and if my surgeon read prior scans (he didnt) what could have been done differently. I am sure I am not the first patient to have suffered from gas-induced hernia.
Avatar n tn If you have a persistent cough, that could also cause complications that manifest as pain and swelling in the scrotum, post-surgery. Try reducing physical activity and elevate your lower limbs and scrotum (by ensuring that the lower part of your body is resting on pillows or cushions while you are lying down) to see if the pain and swelling subside. If the pain increases or persists over the next 24-48 hours, please call your surgeon for further guidance.
Avatar f tn I am a 21yo female, 5'4", 118 pounds. I'm gluten sensitive and lactose intolerant but other than some hay fever and asthma I'm a decently healthy person. I was diagnosed with a femoral hernia in October at the ER and was told that no surgeons would see me without insurance so I've just been trying my best to live with it. They told me it wasn't a very bad one though, so I should be fine so long as I didn't lift anything.
Avatar m tn I have a friend who is female age 61 who is scheduled for major surgery on a very large ventral hernia in 3 days. she has used Meth today and will not use anymore till surgery. What complications should she expect will happen and is there anything she could do to improve this situation. Avatar f tn They said even if i needed to be dialated due to swelling it was to soon post op, it could put a hole is my esophagus, i agree. My doctor also said that with swelling its usually worse the week of surgery and gets better as time passes. I was good now baad, not that it doesnt happen. He also said it may be esopageal spasms. Im afraid to eat, afraid to drink. I feel like what is happening people im telling are minmizing its severity. I can handle pain, discomfort, but this is extreme.

393942 tn?1315560152 The swelling has been helped by the stocking. The lump on my knee has not changed. The swelling is still very big. Also, thank you for giving me a time frame to expect some sort of change in the size.
1444487 tn?1284392849 I'm writing about my fiance. He had an inguinal hernia surgery (open), back in February. Here we are, 7 months later, and he's still in debilitating pain. He has a triangle of pain on the side he was operated on. It goes from his belly button to his left testicle, to his left hip. He normally was a truck driver, and did auto body work in his free time. He has literally been on the couch or in bed for 7 months.
Avatar m tn Gastric bypass 2012, lap chole 2013, exploratory lap 2014, panniculectomy 2015, ventral hernia repair 2015, mesh removal from hernia repair with exp lap 2016, and recently open epigastric incisional hernia repair 2/21/2017. I am one month post op from recent surgery. Immediately upon opening my eyes from surgery I knew something was different. I had extreme pain, more pain then I've had with any surgery I've had.
Avatar m tn Surgery is the only treatment and cure for inguinal hernias. Hernia needs to be surgically repaired to prevent complications like strangulation. The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. So, as you wait for the surgery try to lose weight and if a diabetic, see that it is adequately controlled. But if you develop pain or redness or any signs of inflammation, please consult your doctor immediately.
Avatar n tn 42, female, never any health issues; I did have a UFE almost 2 years ago, and the catheter was inserted in the vicinity of where I am now experiencing this but I think that's coincidental as I had no complications at all. The swelling is minimal in the morning, and although it isn't as if it balloons up when I exercise it does seem to be more prominent in the evenings after I have worked out. Thanks for any input.
Avatar f tn I am 9 mos. Post op troupet wrap and hernia repair. At 3 mos problems started with some nausea and pain in wrap area. Then got colitis with rectal bleeding and nausea and diarrhea. No appetite and something is very wrong with wrap. Nausea is daily and debilitating and intolerable. Please help me. General surgeon won't.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a 42 year old female who had an extended tummy tuck, with muscle repair and incisional hernia repair with mesh four weeks ago today. The original incision that had the hernia was from my open gastric bypass which I had done almost four years ago. I have had a weight loss of almost 100 lbs and have had no complications at all besides the need for an iron transfusion a couple of times.
Avatar n tn However, if you have symptoms of an umbilical hernia even without complications, you should consult your doctor for advice. In adults, most umbilical hernias do not correct themselves unless diagnosed at a very early stage and require minor surgery. Yoga is very useful in reducing the symptoms of hernia only in early stage. It relieves symptoms such as heaviness, fullness and pain.
Avatar n tn //bostonhernia.com/swelling-after-hernia-surgery This describes extra fluid, and why you get it after hernia surgery. I'm not sure it's exactly what you are feeling, but it may help explain things. Make sure you are following your post-op care instructions, too.

Avatar f tn Also, the fibrosis after surgery can cause the discomfort. But if there is a swelling or a bulge, you need to consult your doctor to rule out an infection or a recurrence or hernia. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hello~What type of hernia operation was it? I have not heard of not being able to get travel insurance because of it. I would ask your doctor and see what he has to say, maybe he can shed some light as to why this is.
