hernia surgery and recovery

This was my second surgery (first... removal of ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids). My recent surgery was also to repair a small hernia and removing bowel adheshions (scar tissue). Both are believed to be a result of my first surgery - possibly returning to work and daily activity too soon. I have 2 questions? First, what is a recommend timeframe to resume daily activities (I.e.driving,etc.). My tentative return tobwork dare isn't until July. And...

Hi My sister has just had surgery for a hiatus hernia (360 degree wrap) but is very distressed as no-one (even the hospital) seems to be able to tell her about an aftercare. i.e Diet, what she should be eating after however many days and what to expect etc. When will she be able to do normal things etc.. Can anyone help please,.....

My question is what will the recovery be like. I looked up the recovery for a gallbladder surgery and recovery for hiatal hernia repair and I think I am in for a lot of pain and weight loss. the weight loss I can take. But the pain I am not looking forward to. I will be home during the day by myself. Would I be able to take care of myself and what will the recovery be like. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I have not had the operation, and I looked to see if we had a forum for folks with hernias, but, it looks like we don't. I would do a google search on umbilical hernias and surgery, you should hopefully be able to find something that will be helpful. Sorry that I can not help you more.

I was diagnoised in 1997 w/ breast cancer, bilateral masectomy/saline implants. I've had to have several implant replaced over the years along w/ surgeon dissatisfaction, so I was ref. to new surgeon & suggested tram surgery.

A week after the surgery I had difficulty walking and standing straight up and I was getting sicker and sicker..so the Dr did a ct-scan which showed that I had ruptured my intestines from severe vomitting and through the staples I had a protruding area...I also had many other complications but they had to do an emergency surgery to repair it...

Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.

I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?

i agree i had surgery on my stomach and everything Asharma MD said is true and correct I have a scar but its healing and probaly would heal better if i use oinment on it like neosporin or something which I need to consider because I had staples but I feel normal now no more pain dont worry you will recover to BeautifulDisasterXO and I pray the best for you take care ps i had surgery twice for ovarian cyst and umbilical hernia but im fine the best to you

It is not getting worse. I will be seeing the Dr. this week and will let him know. This surgery and recovery is at the least challenging. Hiatal Hernia repair is not to be taken lightly by those contemplating having it.

After I had hernia surgery Surrey I was told not to do anything that could prevent by recovery.

My doctor suspects I have a hernia, a complication from having a large cyst, ovary and tube removed in May. I will need surgery to repair. Anyone else experience this? I'd appreciate your experiences and thoughts on recovery time, when I can return to work (I'm a preschool teacher), length of surgery, etc. Thanks!

The risk of blood clots exits, but with an experienced surgeon, use of intermittent calf compression boots at surgery, relatively short operative time, and early ambulation, I have not seen this complication in over twenty years. Occasional seromas and minor wound healing issues are more common. Recovery time is usually about two weeks.

How old is the child and has the hernia increased in size.? Has the pediatrician of the child suggested surgery to you .?.

U r welcome. I am not really well informed on this proceedure....I was dx with my hiatal hernia while still in high school, and I have not had a surgery.I also was able to go yrs with out meds....

so i had the ultrasound and the cyst is not major thank god and now I just have to get surgery to take out hernia and close the hole so every thing is great and I will be just fine

Also, my lower esophagus pressure is very low, its a 5 and needs to be at least an 8 to keep food down so I am going to have the hiatal hernia removed and my esophagus tightened. What should I expect after the surgery as far as pain and the recovery time? Is it possible that the wrap will help my condition the first time?

I had a seroma after surgery for a hernia in Sept of 2008. It is now Feb of 2010 and there is still some fluid. Dr.'s just say. OH well gotta live with it. Very disappointing.

The surgeon that did the repair recently did ultra sound and CT and said the hernia was slight again and the gall bladder distended and a kidney cyst, Other docs have seen the cyst as well. Several docs have told me that none of these things really need attention or are causing my symptoms. I m convinced something is wrong and worried it will turn into an emergency if I don't do something.

Discuss with a surgeon and get it corrected by an elective surgery. If it is a reducible hernia then it is not an emergency and you can plan appropriately. With irreducible hernias you have to go for an emergency operation. Take care!

ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle. After 20 years, I still feel some discomforting pains (on my right testicle) when exercising.

My mother had a mesh put during her initial debulking surgery and not due to a hernia problem. She developed a nodule at the site from which they drained fluid to diagnose her OVC. She is now 4 months post op but still feels lot of stretch internally at the mesh site. Other than that she has had no problems. She was even able to take IP chemo with this mesh inside.

I have to ask how bad is ur GERD u feel the need to have this surgery?I have a hiatal hernia and just wondered at what point people seek this option.
