Avatar f tn You may want to look into adaptagen herbs such as Rhodiola, Ashwagandha, or an Adrenal support vitamin which is a blend of these herbs, or Seripohs. Your belly fat issue could be due to high Cortisol, the stress hormone. This is my problem and am working on it, so maybe research this topic.
Avatar m tn You are presently taking prenatal vitamins so you do not need additional vitamin/mineral supplementation. To help lower your blood pressure is to lower your salt (sodium) intake. To keep your sodium levels down, avoid high sodium foods, prepared/prepackaged foods, cold cuts, cured meats, and take away the ‘salt shaker’. Adding extra herbs and garlic/spices (without salt) to your food will add more flavor and you will not miss the salt. Hope this helped you.
Avatar m tn I have not heard of this happening with vitamins or herbs. Unless you medically need these maybe it would be wise to steer away from them if your body if not tolerating them well.

You can also try some of these ideas as well: 1. Take nutritional supplements to lower your testosterone. Diindolylmethane, or DIM, is a natural supplement made from cauliflower and broccoli, and is known to reduce androgens, or male sex hormones (among which is testosterone).
798555 tn?1292787551 s tough to use herbs when you have diabetes anyway -- especially Type !. Because you have to monitor your blood sugar, using herbs that lower blood sugar require a lot of monitoring, and if people don't do it they can go too low. As for you, Gym is right, diet is by far the most important factor. It and exercise will determine if you go diabetic or not, not the thyroid. Personally, because you have the Hashimotos, I'd consult a naturopath and a physician who is open to herbs.

Avatar f tn Holy basil not only reduces cortisol but can also reduce blood sugar, which can make you feel tired when it starts to wear off. I find it does this to me, so I only take it when needed -- it might not do this if taken regularly but it's something to consider. If the rhodiola is helping and not making you more anxious are you taking the recommended dose?
Avatar f tn Anxiety and medication can also cause chills, as well as sweats. If it turns out you aren't ill with anything, do you exercise at all? In other words, are you circulating your blood? Humans are built to move, not sit still. There are also warming herbs that can help circulate the blood, including cinnamon, though that will lower your blood sugar so if low blood sugar is the problem this isn't for you, tumeric, cayenne, and the like.
Avatar n tn Could he be running high at night for his average to be up? I also know that at times he does check his sugar before bedtime and it's in the 60's. Is there anything he can do to avoid going on oral agents and insulin? Also, what do you think about cinnamon and other herbs?
492869 tn?1285018933 You might also think about herbs that help circulate the blood more evenly to keep your blood pressure steadier, such as gingko, gotu kola, and butcher's broom. There are others, as well. Some of these are also blood thinners, like gingko, so make sure if you're on any medication they don't conflict.

798555 tn?1292787551 Can't imagine why anyone would recommend 5-HTP for adrenals. It's a metabolite of tryptophan, which helps manufacture serotonin. Nothing to do with adrenals directly, though it might be helpful for anxiety or depression sufferers. Valerian is a relaxant, affecting GABA, again not for adrenal support unless sleep deprivation is causing it. Using one herb to accomplish something isn't the best way to do this. Herbalists work with formulas.

Avatar f tn There are herbs called adaptogens that probably will be more effective and have much longer usage history to prove their effectiveness, for example, holy basil and ashwagandha will help balance the adrenals. However, and this is a problem for you, most natural products that lower cortisol also lower blood sugar, which means you have a problem using natural adrenal balancers until you discover what in your diet is leaving you with low blood sugar.

The linden/mistletoe formula from Herb Pharm worked on virtually everyone who used it when I managed health foods stores. Hawthorn is the main herb for lowering blood pressure, but herbs work better in combination that singly. Lifestyle and dietary changes, of course, would also be necessary.
