Heavy periods on the pill

Common Questions and Answers about Heavy periods on the pill

Avatar n tn Head for an ob-gyn right away. In the meantime, take iron -- that is a lot of blood loss. (When a woman is miscarrying, if she fills a maxipad in an hour they tell her to go to the ER.) It sounds like a hormonal issue, definitely insist on a full workup and a diagnosis, don't just let the doctor guess and put you on the pill.
Avatar f tn HI, Although birth control pills will help control heavy menstrual bleeding, progesterone will be equally effective. It is necessary to find out the cause of the bleeding, as treatment will depend on the cause. At the age of 44 years, it would be best to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. A pelvic examination, Pap smear, ultrasound scan and blood work will be necessary to make the diagnosis. The answer is based on information provided.
Avatar n tn filling a pad a hour. I went in to my GYN and he said that I should go on the pill to regulate the periods. My regular doctor tested my Thyroid and my PAP came back normal. The next period was 40 days and not as hard. I began the pills on that period and have started another BAD period now... pad an hour - before the pill pack is even done and not in the plecibo line of pills yet.
Avatar n tn Sounds like you are certain you are done with the babies, and this would be great with all the camping you do. I don't remember if it is a pill form or shot. Maybe ask. Heavy periods are the worst! I remember when I was a kid, my mom would wear two pads, one on bottom and one on back of panties so that she would not leak everywhere and then have to sleep on a towel! She had a hysterectomy when I was 16 and has never been happier!
Avatar f tn It was not very comfortable to have two period a month, so I decided to stop pills when the first period started (two weeks before the end of my pill pack). So my periods started as normal, but after three days it started bleeding abnormal. It is lasting now for 11 days and it is very heavy. I have to change my super tampon every two hours with huge clots.
Avatar f tn I decided to go on the birth control pill to help regulate the severity (they were regular, just too heavy for me to function), and I now have 2-3 day long periods that are light to moderate in flow with only the occasional clot. You might consider it if the reason you're asking is because it is impairing your life in some way even if it's just comfort.
Avatar n tn I have been having heavy periods for a while. I have been seeing a new GYN for a little over a yr. She has been showing a lot more interest in me than my past GYN's, which I am very greatful for but I am tired of waiting and would like to know if anyone has these same problems and if you found out what is wrong and what you have done. For the past month my GYN has been running test to figure out what is going on.
Avatar n tn Bleeding stopped in 2 days - worked great in that regard. However, I've been on the pill for 5 1/2 months and have gained considerable amount of weight and have been reading all the negative side effects (experiencing a few myself). I decided to stop taking them (doc said well, you'll start bleeding again). I'd like to try some alternative solution - since I really believe someone my age should not be on bcp. Any advice?
Avatar n tn For years I've had very heavy periods with LOTS of cramps and period-related backaches, and I breakout a lot for my age (39). I'd been off the pill for some time, but went back on about 1 1/2 years ago for these symptoms. My periods got lighter and shorter, cramps lessened, my skin got better. However, after trying a minimum of 4 different pills plus the patch, the various side effects were worse than the alternatives.

Avatar m tn My doctor there suggested that I get the depo shot. The day I got the depo shot, my period stopped and didn't come for the time that it was in my system, but it did make my depression and anxiety much worse, thus I decided to not take it a second time. After the three months of depo were over, I got my period again. It wasn't anything intense. I bled a moderate amount and only cramped a little. It lasted a week, then a week later, I got my period again. My periods became worse.
Avatar f tn My old OB just put me on the pill but I stopped taking it to try to get pregnant and it started all over again. I am going to a new OB office very soon since I switched health insurance. I hope that they can figure out something! I am so glad to hear there is someone else suffering like me. Did they do any testing of any sort? My old OB did a blood test and found that I had high glucose but did nothing about it and didn't elaborate on it at all.
Avatar f tn started back on the pill today, periods still qiute heavy, feeling dizzy too now

Avatar f tn I have had this happen to me in the past. Recently I have started taking the pill (birth control) and it was the cause of it. If you have started new form of birthcontrol this could be the cause. If you havent, I suggest you go see your doctor to ask if it is normal, that is if it does not stop within the next day or two. Im sure you are fine, its always a good thing to check into though.
Avatar f tn I'm 17 and have been on my period for 3 weeks straight. I'm on the pill and take it faithfully every day, same time and everything. Whenever i engage with my boyfriend physically though, i get my period no later than a few hours. I am constantly tired from my period, and don't know if i should see a doctor or not. Help?
285951 tn?1191678814 Ladies some females have heavy periods because their lining of their uterus is thicker then a normal person. Going on the pill helps lighten up your period, but check with your parents before doing that. I had that problem for years, and then after I had my girls, I got my uterus removed 6 months ago, and my lining was twice as thick as a normal person.
Avatar f tn That's one of the reasons why people go on the pill. To make their periods shorter or less heavy, etc. I don't think there's anything unusual about your experience because it sounds pretty much normal to me.
Avatar n tn She was on the pill at the time got her period on the 21st of the month. She then got off the pill. We took 4 pregnancy tests and they all came out negative. She got her period the following month on the 17th (5 day heavy flow and it was a full 27 day cycle). I have not touched her since August 7th. She also took a digital 5th test and it came out negative as well. What is the likely hood that she could still be preg. at this time.
Avatar n tn It sounds like breakthrough bleeding and if you continue to take the pill during a breakthrough bleed you will just continue to bleed. As for the clots I dont get those being on the pill. Maybe you need to try a different BCP. I think different pills give different side effects and this may be one of them.
460279 tn?1206453896 Ok I can understand this I tried the depo and all I did was bleed, so I went on the pill well don't take st johns wort while on the pill or bam ur pregnant because it some how interferes. And for the merina the first one caused an infection I had it removed and a few months later I was pregnant thats when I had my miscarrage.
Avatar f tn One thing that is worrying me is my periods. I have always had irregular periods, except when on the pill for 2 short intervals in my 20s. However I have often fallen into some kind of cycle, e.g. every 6 weeks (about), every 5 weeks etc. 7 weeks would be max but very rarely that long unless very severe stress (I have an anxiety disorder).
Avatar m tn My periods have been really regular except for this past month. On October 8-11 I got my period. On the 25 to the 2nd of November, I had really heavy brown discharge with also a little bit of light blood. And now it's sunday and my sugar pill week has passed and I did not get my period. I don't feel different at all. My boobs aren't sore or anything like that. I just started a new pack even though I didn't get my period.
Avatar n tn I've been on the Pill for 7 months w/ regular light periods at the right time. Now i'm 10 pills into my new pill pack and my period started again - this time heavier than usual. I've continued to take my pill as usual and my doc said spotting is usual. but this is now more than spotting and i've been bleeding now for 5 days. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn They still last the same amount of time - 6-7 days - but it seems like I'm expelling so much more tissue now. I went on the pill in May 2006 and since then everything's been fine, and my doctor hasn't noticed anything during my yearly exams. Is it possible that the termination just altered my body chemistry, causing my body to produce more endometrial lining? Or is it a sign of endometriosis or adenomyosis or something more sinister?
Avatar n tn i had my period on dec, 12 06 n it lasted about a week it was normal n yesterday 1-7-07 i started what i think a new period but its very heavy to the point i've stained my clothing n a bright red .im not on the pill or any other 'anticonceptive'or the patch, etc.after my last period ended i had unprotected sex with my husband but i dont think im preg since i had my period so what could actualy be going on???
Avatar n tn I've been on the pill for almost a year now, and usually get my period the first day of my sugar pills. This used to concern me since most women get it a few days into the sugar pills but its really regular and doesn't bother me now. However, my last two periods have started a day early (the day of taking my last active pill). Recently I have been bleeding a little after sex as well. My current period started a day early again and is very light. A little blood but mostly brown discharge.
