Common Questions and Answers about Heavy periods in teenage girls

period

Avatar f tn ever since i've first gotten my periods they have been totally cramp free, decently light ((light enough that i wouldn't have to wear a pad and i didn't have to worry about leaking usually.)) and really awesome. never got any PMS or anything. they have been rather irregular, sometimes not appearing for three months, then appearing, but overall have been alright and not a problem. last period didn't give me any PMS warnings, like usual, but it was EXTREMELY heavy.
Avatar f tn It probably wont have anything to do with your fertility, lot's of girls have irregular periods and it is very common in teenage years. When you go for a physical you will get a pap test that will determine if there is anything wrong, you should mention to your doctor that they have been abnormal as well. It is possible that it could be a slight iron deficiency too.
202436 tn?1326474333 Well any time you insert something into your vagina(finger, tampons, etc), you can break the hymen, but it can also be broken by sports, riding a bike, or other simple exercises. I don't know when my hymen broke, as I had played soccer and other sports since I was 5, but I started using tampons at 12 and was very far from being sexually active. I didn't have sex until 20 and my hymen broke long before that, which I'm glad it did.
202436 tn?1326474333 My daughter had her first period at the beginning of August 2009, just after her 13th birthday. In the past 16 months she has only had about 7 periods. They are only coming every 2-3 months. At first I figured it was just her cycle regulating itself but now I'm beginning to wonder if something else is going on. I don't want to take her to a gyn and have her go through all that mess only to be told it's just hormone regulation. What do you ladies think?
Avatar n tn While it is not at all unusual to be irregular in the teenage years, long periods of bleeding like this are. when you say nonstop periods, you are now getting a period and it lasts how long? Why did you stop taking the pill if that was working? I would absolutely go back to your doctor. If your period is more than 7 days, they should know and try to get this resolved. Does your mom help you at all? Take you to the doctor? I'm sure she is alarmed by heavy, non stop bleeding.
1010669 tn?1250740235 s located more towards the underarm, correct? The other thing is, (and I know this can also be a normal part in growing up for teenage girls) that my right breast is oddly shaped, and much larger than my left. When I say larger, i don't mean just the usual amount that girls and women experience. I mean that my right breast is about twice as large as my right. And as I said it is a completely different shape.
Avatar f tn My parents are strict also however, i told my mom that my periods were too heavy and i got on the pill its free for the pill. I would recommend going to a freinds house perhaps and get a test to confirm whether or not you are.
Avatar n tn ve been to the doctors and all they did was send for me a blood test which came back as inconclusive and stuff, I was wandering if anyone knows what it could be?
Avatar n tn Like another comment said, birth control can help with long or heavy periods. It has been prescribed by many doctors for those specific reasons.
Avatar f tn m following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed. In my teenage years I could eat anything and never gain a pound, I appeared anorexic up to age 21. My periods were light and would disappear for months, and it took almost 2 years to conceive. After I had my children, I had a tubal ligation, I've never been able to lose the weight and my periods were steady & regular.
Avatar n tn my prom is tomorrow and my periods are really heavy is there anything i can do to slow it down.

Avatar f tn s how mine was at times, though I feel it was unrelated as I would still have a period on the days I was not with my boyfriend, just it would vary between spotting and being heavy depending on the day.
Avatar f tn Yes, during the teenage years, irregular period are very normal. Hang in there. it should start to show soon and I do think it is great if you can talk to your mom, aunt, sister, grandma about these kinds of things.
Avatar f tn First of all, I would like to note that I have had my period since 7th grade, when I was 12. I have never had a regular cycle. In 2012, I had my last period in May, and didn't get it again until September, and then December. My most recent is this year, March 12-18th. I then had intercourse on the 29th. There was a condom on at first, but by the time I found out that he took it off, it was too late. He pulled out, but I do not trust that method!!! I was livid. So, today, Apr.
Avatar n tn To a point it's normal for irregular periods : although you will find there are many teenage girls on birth control not for sex but to regulate their mensutral cycle. You need to get checked and tested There are many different things that can be going on... You don't want to mess with you fertility since ONE DAY WHEN YOUR OLDER you might want children.
Avatar f tn I used to sell this birth control.. My best advice would be to ween into the pack. There are 3 trays of pills. Have them complete the first tray and take a week off to have a "period". then complete the next two trays and the row of placebo pills (last row) will give them a "period". When they get the next pack of pills just use them as directed - one pill a day. This will help them to not have breakthrough bleeding.
Avatar f tn I would not say that thyroid nodules/goiters, etc are "common" in teenage girls. I would say that these issues are more common that realized, but still somewhat rare. I would definately get a more conclusive testing. I do not feel that you are over-reacting. Better to err on the side of caution. Back to your daughter: Depending on your family history, there could be a genetic influance pre-disposing your daughter to thyroid issues. More often than not, nodules are benign.
Avatar f tn The bleeding is different, its light pink and not heavy like my usual periods.
