Like another comment said, birth control can help with long or heavy periods. It has been prescribed by many doctors for those specific reasons.

I had a c section 20 mos ago. since then my periods have been really heavy and there is always a day I seem to gush blood. Well- my period came a week early this month and last night I seemed to have passed a lot of blood- that seemed really red. Now that I am up it does not seem to be flowing so strong. I don't have any pain- slight cramping. I am not sure whether I should go to the ER or not- hate to go if it is just my period! Just seems odd there was so, so much.

dont sweat it, mine did the same thing. did you recently start having periods? because almost everybody is irregular when you first start. its normal. if you notice that after a while its still not right then you should seek a doctors advice.

I am 53 years old. I have always had heavy periods, but lately my periods have lasted a long time, sometimes two weeks or more, and they become very heavy with lots of clotting. She is iron deficient from her heavy iron loss in her periods. This produces her anemia and secondary symptoms. She needs to be on iron replacement therapy and this should be guided by her doctor thru prescription strength supplementation. Once on iron her CBC should be monitored so that improvments are documented and that she feels better too, (this can take only a few days)...

Thats actually incorrect. Having PCOS myself and from talking to other moms & women who have PCOS... your periods are heavy and long... not short and light. It could also be an estrogen problem. Are you on birth control?

Im 19 and have always had pretty regular periods... its usually moderately heavy the first 2 days and then starts to get lighter till the 5th day. i usually have cramps on the first 2 days that are manageable with a couple tylenol.

I have also been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and I have diabetes. I was wondering if the thyroidism and diabetes could contribute to the discharge. All I read about discharge is if it is white or clear and doesn't smell it is nothing to worry about. I hope I hear from someone soon. Monday the 6th I started what I would say was a very light dark brown period, buy Tuesday it was gone, and was only visable when I wiped which ended Thursday, my periods normally last 5 days and heavy and not Dark brown( can only describe as a pooh like colour), im also 4/5 days early which is another mad one, ok I know it cannot be IB but I just wanted to no if any as had this happen to them.

Hi there. The above information is a bit inaccurate. It is not abnormal to have heavy periods especially on the first day of your period in which you change your pad every two hours. That is completely normal. check with your doctor for reassurance.
