Heavy periods birth control

Common Questions and Answers about Heavy periods birth control

period

Avatar f tn I'm 3 years removed from child birth. First & only child. I was diagnosed with PPCM right after delivery & am still dealing with heart issues. I'm not currently on birth control. I'm having a period now that is the heaviest & longest period of my life. It's been going on for 7 days, with LOTS of bleeding & HUGE (quarter to golf ball size) clots. Does anyone else experience this during their periods?
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm 15 and having sex with my boyfriend (dating for a year). We had a pregnancy scare last month and he really wants me on birth control pills, but I don't have the guts to talk to my mom about it. Please help?
Avatar f tn You live in the US. If you have any kind of health insurance, birth control is free.
Avatar f tn Depo takes effect as soon as you get it. It worked great for me as far as not getting pregnant but I had horrible mood swings, acne, and my appetite was out of control. It doesn't do everyone like that but all birth control has some type of side effects!
1416390 tn?1333901604 I had a c section 20 mos ago. since then my periods have been really heavy and there is always a day I seem to gush blood. Well- my period came a week early this month and last night I seemed to have passed a lot of blood- that seemed really red. Now that I am up it does not seem to be flowing so strong. I don't have any pain- slight cramping. I am not sure whether I should go to the ER or not- hate to go if it is just my period! Just seems odd there was so, so much.
Avatar f tn I decided to go on the birth control pill to help regulate the severity (they were regular, just too heavy for me to function), and I now have 2-3 day long periods that are light to moderate in flow with only the occasional clot. You might consider it if the reason you're asking is because it is impairing your life in some way even if it's just comfort.
Avatar f tn Hi, Coco. Birth control is also an excellent way to keep your periods under control. Being on birth control does not mean in any way that you should have sex. In fact you should NOT have sex for at least a few years yet. The birth control won't hurt you, and you will always know when your period is due, which is very handy.
Avatar n tn Like another comment said, birth control can help with long or heavy periods. It has been prescribed by many doctors for those specific reasons.
Avatar n tn The first birth control pill I was on, my periods were regular at the same time every month. I never missed a period. My doctor switched my pill and I didn't have a period for 3 months. When I went back to the doctor they said that maybe the new pill was too strong for me, and they switched it again. I had a period for the first two months on this third pill and now I have stopped getting my period again. I took three pregnancy tests and they have all came up negative.
Avatar f tn part of the pill, but my periods are really heavy and my cramps are awful!! Does a birth control pill stop the bleeding completely, or just extend the amount of times between periods? Also, I have read online that there are estrogen or progestin-based pills...is there one that will work better mainly for the purpose of decreasing my flow or stopping my period all together?
7598004 tn?1396586588 So i definitely am getting on birth control after i have my baby girl im 37 weeks and im not sure what i want so im looking for opinions i am strongly leaning towards the implant that goes in your arm ive been doing a lot of research i just wanna know if its worked good for you or anyone you know...
Avatar f tn I'm 17 n I'm sexually active and I want to get on birth control but i don't know how to bring it up to my mom because I know she'll freak out. What do I do?
Avatar n tn 5 years old due to irregular and heavy periods. I came off 3 times to fall pregnant, which I did the month straight after eg off pill period then fell. Each time the mini pill wasn't strong enough to control the bleeding. A year a ago I was on a pill and I thought that my anxiety and weight was an issue so I changed to the Yaz combined pill. My anxiety and weight haven't changed.
Avatar f tn I am going to the gyno cologist soon to get on birth control. Any types that are great ? I have bad cramps, and heavy bleeding but my periods are pretty regular and on time. And are their any birth controls that won't make you gain weight ?!?!?!?!!?
Avatar n tn I've had the mirena IUD since 2011 and haven't had any problems. Except a couple of them fell out due to other reasons but I have always had them replaced. It has been the best thing for me because it's the only thing I've tried that helped with my heavy periods. Now I can travel even when I'm on my period because my periods are so light that I only need the thinnest pads. It's been great for me.
9905230 tn?1409232795 Also, I still got my period with the Mirena but it only lasted 3 days and they were very light periods. Once I had it removed my periods were super heavy that I had to use super tampons. But I had heavy periods before I had Mirena. Some women's period stops all together with the Mirena and some women like me just get lighter periods.
Avatar f tn Doctors are only supposed to have you do that if your periods are extremely painful, extremely heavy, or if you have endometriosis. You should be having them every month because your body is not made to withstand having them suppressed. (I am 16 and have endometriosis and I have had to get mine suppressed to only having two a year since I get put in the hospital with to much blood loss and pain.) Go back to the gyno and tell him/her what you experienced and ask for a different option.
6710217 tn?1386110892 Does anybody know the name of the birth control pill that makes it to where you dont have periods? I was on it before I got pregnant then my insurance quit. Therefore, I couldnt keep getting my birth control then I got pregnant lol ironic I know. But I've been trying to think of the name and no matter what I can't remember. I would like to get back on it after my 6 weeks post partum is up. If anyone can help me or help name off some BC pills maybe that'll help me remember.
589762 tn?1330207135 I was thinking my last resort would be the IUD... has any one had one? Bad or Good? Any other birth control suggestions would be great too!!
Avatar f tn I've got a week left and I still don't know what birth control I should get on. And that will help with periods (cuz I have bad flow that I get anemic on my period.) and one that I can safely breastfeed with. Any ideas? What are you stories, the good and bad with birth control.
Avatar f tn Can I get birth control without having an exam? I want birth control to regulate my period. I have never been sexually active but my period can go for 5-9 days not heavy or light flowing. It also has a range of 21-30 days in between periods. I do NOT like to be touched and have never had a successful relationship because of it.
Avatar f tn Hi girls I was just wondering who has the implanted birth control, and what are the comments about it please let me know of and side effects pros and cons
Avatar f tn Myself and most every mom I know swears by their IUD. I had mine after my daughter and loved it... There are risks but the Dr can explain them...
Avatar f tn I have not personally tried the patch. I believe it lasts for one week, so you use one a week for three weeks, and then have an off week. It's odd that a 21 day pill pack messed up your periods, since the usual effect is to make them super regular. Were you taking them at the same time every day? It's possible that that brand of birth control just wasn't right for you, and that's why it was screwy.
3102470 tn?1341314599 have you tried talking to your doctor about taking birth control? most of the time, painful periods are caused because your hormones are so out of whack that your body doesn't know how to keep up. most forms of birth control can help with balancing out your hormone levels so that you don't feel quite as tired, moody, or in pain and can even cause you to have lighter periods.
Avatar f tn I was on birth control for numerous years. I have read some bad stuff about being on it for long periods at a time. I just don't feel it's natural for a woman so I never will be getting back on it...
Avatar f tn i got onto it because my periods were heavy, EXTREMELYYYY painful, and very irregular, so i figured birth control would help with that. The first month helped out a lot; i lasted 7 days (regular), it was lighter and i barely felt any cramps but this month its like something completely different.
