Avatar n tn If your periods are generally heavy, you could ask your doctor about it. Sometimes birth control pills can really help to lessen your flow. Also, eating healthy and getting regular exercise can help. Have a great (and safe) time at your prom.
Avatar f tn I decided to go on the birth control pill to help regulate the severity (they were regular, just too heavy for me to function), and I now have 2-3 day long periods that are light to moderate in flow with only the occasional clot. You might consider it if the reason you're asking is because it is impairing your life in some way even if it's just comfort.
Avatar n tn Like another comment said, birth control can help with long or heavy periods. It has been prescribed by many doctors for those specific reasons.
Avatar f tn I started birth control pill about half a year ago, after i removed my implant. I was prscribed Cerazette, because of my migrane. From that time I used to have periods two times a month, it was two weeks before I finished my monthly pack of pills and after I finished pack. It was quite light and usually lasted for a week. It was not very comfortable to have two period a month, so I decided to stop pills when the first period started (two weeks before the end of my pill pack).
Avatar f tn My cycle is 28 days if I count from the first day of heavy bleeding- however I spot for 3 days before the heavy bleeding begins. Once the heavy bleeding begins I bleed for 7 days (4 of which are very heavy) I use the Diva Cup (menstrual cup) because my periods are so heavy tampons aren't absorbent enough. Because I use the Diva Cup, I know that I bleed over 100 mls each period. From the time I start spotting to the time I stop bleeding is typically 10 days.
Avatar n tn I have been having heavy periods for a while. I have been seeing a new GYN for a little over a yr. She has been showing a lot more interest in me than my past GYN's, which I am very greatful for but I am tired of waiting and would like to know if anyone has these same problems and if you found out what is wrong and what you have done. For the past month my GYN has been running test to figure out what is going on.
Avatar n tn I'm 15 and have been on the pill for about a month, I was due for my period afew days before I started taking the sugar pills and it was a brownish coloir and light, now I've started the sugar pulls and my periods extemely heavy (have to change tampon and 2-3 hours) but it varies, itl be heavy for a few hours then normal, then heavy again and I have horrible cramps. Is this normal?
1940167 tn?1331838855 Irregular bleeding, heavy bleeding, or fewer and lighter periods, increased spotting and light bleeding between periods are few of the common side effects of any birth control method. These side effects are more common in the first few months of starting OC pills. If the bleeding is severe or persistent seeking the opinion of a gynecologist will be helpful. Do keep me posted. Best of luck and regards!
Avatar f tn You live in the US. If you have any kind of health insurance, birth control is free.
Avatar f tn We had a pregnancy scare last month and he really wants me on birth control pills, but I don't have the guts to talk to my mom about it. Please help?
Avatar n tn I started taking the birth control pill Seasonique, it is supposed to give you 4 periods a year. My first 3-month dose was going good, and I am not supposed to get my period until the 13th week. I got my period on the 9th week and I am still on it, it is now a few days before the 12th week begins. Before I started on the pill I would get my period every month for 3-4 days at the most. The 13th week of the pills have a lower estrogen level, which will cause my period again. Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Hi, Coco. Birth control is also an excellent way to keep your periods under control. Being on birth control does not mean in any way that you should have sex. In fact you should NOT have sex for at least a few years yet. The birth control won't hurt you, and you will always know when your period is due, which is very handy.
Avatar f tn It worked great for me as far as not getting pregnant but I had horrible mood swings, acne, and my appetite was out of control. It doesn't do everyone like that but all birth control has some type of side effects!
Avatar n tn The first birth control pill I was on, my periods were regular at the same time every month. I never missed a period. My doctor switched my pill and I didn't have a period for 3 months. When I went back to the doctor they said that maybe the new pill was too strong for me, and they switched it again. I had a period for the first two months on this third pill and now I have stopped getting my period again. I took three pregnancy tests and they have all came up negative.
Avatar f tn Does birth control pills affect your menstruation cycle and does it affect yourhealth and physical appearance?
Avatar n tn It can take a little while to get your periods regular when starting a birth control pill. I would however encourage you to keep track of your cycle for a few months to make sure you are not having any break throw bleeding. If you were, you would need to see your doctor for a medication change.
Avatar f tn I recently started birth control pills about 3 weeks ago and this sunday nov. 3 I went to the restroom and had light bleeding then I went back an hour later and it stopped and its been going on all week i had the light red bleeding for 5 days and today it was a really dark color my period is due next week. Usually my periods last seven days and are heavy. Basically I was wondering if that was my period and it just came early due to the pill or changed? Or is it something else?
Avatar f tn I'm 17 n I'm sexually active and I want to get on birth control but i don't know how to bring it up to my mom because I know she'll freak out. What do I do?
Avatar f tn Doctors are only supposed to have you do that if your periods are extremely painful, extremely heavy, or if you have endometriosis. You should be having them every month because your body is not made to withstand having them suppressed. (I am 16 and have endometriosis and I have had to get mine suppressed to only having two a year since I get put in the hospital with to much blood loss and pain.) Go back to the gyno and tell him/her what you experienced and ask for a different option.
Avatar f tn Or have bad side effects? I a little nervous cuz I've never takin birth control b4. I don't want to not be able to loose the rest of this weight. Plus I feel our family is complete now with 3 girls and our boy but dont feel comfortable doing anything permanent.
7598004 tn?1396590188 So i definitely am getting on birth control after i have my baby girl im 37 weeks and im not sure what i want so im looking for opinions i am strongly leaning towards the implant that goes in your arm ive been doing a lot of research i just wanna know if its worked good for you or anyone you know...
Avatar f tn With hormonal birth control, the period you get is actually withdrawal bleeding from stopping the hormones, and not a usual period caused by ovulating and getting ready for a baby. That's why periods when you're on birth control tend to be so regular. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Can I get birth control without having an exam? I want birth control to regulate my period. I have never been sexually active but my period can go for 5-9 days not heavy or light flowing. It also has a range of 21-30 days in between periods. I do NOT like to be touched and have never had a successful relationship because of it.
