Avatar n tn Seizures can be caused by alot of things - allergies, heat stroke, lack of sleep, malnutrition, skipping medication, other medical conditions, etc. sounds like you should get a full physical and a battery of tests. Between now and then keeping a journal for your doctors helps.
Avatar f tn //www.stroke.org/en/about-stroke/types-of-stroke/tia-transient-ischemic-attack It is a blockage that causes this and really important to treat. Let me know what you think or if there are any updates since you posted this.
Avatar f tn my other neghbor said it looked like a heat stroke but she wasnt out for very long and she had water so i dont know how she could have had a heat stroke
Avatar f tn I have been having a seizure like problem. It only happens when I walk or run. I had it once in a while in high school, never got it checked out. But it has gotten worse after the 4th of july 2010. I suffered heat exhaustion was rushed to the ER by ambulance, took me over three weeks to recover from that. But since then my seizure like problems have happened more and more. I haven't the seizure thing since about 9th grade, I have been out of school for over 5years now.

Avatar f tn My MRIs/Scans this week did not show any signs that I had a stroke or bleed, so the neurologists are assuming I had a partial stroke. Can low potassium cause a stroke? I had a tooth pulled the day before my "seizuere" (only with novacain) and also had dental surgery the day before my stroke. Could dental (bone graft) surgery have caused my stroke?
Avatar n tn I think you should also ask for an EEG (Electroencephalogram). It may not be a seizure, but a past history of stroke does predispose you for a seizure. Please keep me updated about your MRI.
Avatar f tn I know that untreated or uncontroled hypertension and heart conditions as arytmia can be factors of danger of stroke. The seizure is also an alarm you should pay attention too if you arenĀ“t epileptic. If you have a family historu of stroke it is another factor of danger. Do yourself a great favor and visit a neurologist right away...and see a cardiologist and do something about your arrymtia and artereal hypertension.
Avatar n tn So to those who have been following the birth and scary moments with my little Adam Dale, after more testing today we found out that he had a stroke during or shortly after delivery. They are not sure why but the long term prognosis is pretty good. Still scary as heck but at least we have answers. He seems to be doing really well and has not had any more seizures since early this morning.
Avatar m tn s not the risk of the seizure itself, but rather when a dog convulses their body temp rises and the longer the seizure or the closer together they are, the greater the risk that the dog will essentially experience heat stroke. In extreme casses (long seizures or clusters with close proximity) organs can fail/be damaged and this is the danger. In her case their was no "cause". Essentially they consider her to have primary epilepsy.
Avatar f tn blood pressure, but a slight blood clot got to the brain from the hole in the heart and caused a stroke 8 months ago. Last week he had a Tonic Clonic seizure this happened after a very active day of therapy for his left hand which is still not responding, hours at a the YMCa working out and working with his Saebolt which opens and closes the hand. He did have 3 beers the previous day with a buddy and his wife thinks that is what caused it, but the neuorologiest said no.
Avatar n tn I have heard that once a person has had a heat stroke, they can not tolerate the heat anymore. It seems to do something to our body's chemistry. I have not had a heat stroke, but, I am extremely heat intolerant. I am always hot, and I must be in the A/C or I get short of breath, PVC's and feel horrible. I am even hot in the winter. One thing besides heat stroke that can cause heat intolerance is an over-active thyroid and also a lack of natural progesterone.
Avatar n tn Unless a seizure is brought on by heat exhaustion or worse, heat stroke, water makes no difference. The dog will only wake up wondering why he's all wet!
Avatar f tn I had a grandmal seizure and has been seizure free for 12 years. Currently on 750mg of kepra and 20 mg clobazem. In august I had and episode where the left side of my body went numb, my face drooped and I was unable to speak for 2 hours. I also experienced sharp pain at the back of my left year and my skull. The hospital tests CT, ECG, EKG and bllod work showed no stroke.
Avatar m tn * She had a stroke (or something similar) when she was six which may be related to the seizure. When she went to the ER she had a cat scan which showed some "calcifications" which may be left over from the stroke. * the ER docs did a whole bunch of neurological tests including eeg and all came back negative. * Because of the previous stroke the ER neurologist prescribed Keppra.
Avatar f tn My friend had a stroke and recovered well. 9 months later she had a seizure like episode. The doctor said that it could NOT have been a seizure because she remembered everything as it was happening. 4 months later the at same hospital she was taken in for exact same thing. A different neurologist diagnosed it as seizure from damage from the stroke in less than five minute. She received a cat scan upon arrival. Further scans confirmed his diagnosis.
Avatar f tn A year ago I believe I suffered some heat exhaustion/stroke and since then, when i start getting hot during activities, i get chills up and down my spine, arms and legs. My calf muscle on my left side will tingle/becomes numb, i get dizzy , my face gets red, i can feel my heart pounding in my head and my breathing is rapid but shallow and i have trouble regulating it for a few minutes. It scares me.
Avatar m tn s actually someone like a real stroke but heat stroke or heat exhaustion affects the brain in a different way and the ongoing symptoms are related to the body's reaction to heat or sun. Not everyone experiences ongoing sensitivity, and yours may ease off. But in my case, it was permanent. I remember those two incidents very well to this day, man I was sick (unbelievable). So in a way I am not surprised.
Avatar f tn The causes and effects they have on your brain health are different, strokes can look like seizures and seizure can look like strokes but a stroke occurs due to a disruption of blood circulation in the brain, a seizure occurs due to a surge of electrical activity in the brain....
Avatar f tn Hi. My dad is 63 years old, a survivor of 2 cardiac arrests, a stroke 5 years ago that was accompanied by a seizure. On Saturday he wasn't feeling well with a headache and then became unresponsive. He had a seizure in the ambulance and one in the ER. He was on life support for almost 2 days and thank goodness is is now awake and alert. His memory is very touch and go. He has come along way.
Avatar f tn can 20 years on dilantin after one seizure, then a stroke with no speech, cause terrible sideeffects?
Avatar n tn He had a blood sugar of 73 when the paramedics tested him, but they feel that had risen due to the seizure activity. They felt that his blood sugar had been much lower. He was put on seizure watch for 1 week to make sure it was not a different condition. He hasn't had one since. It is a very scary experience. He does not remember the seizure at all.
