Avatar n tn The occipital area of the brain is located at the base of the back of the head. Hearing and vision are the last things to go before a person passes out so your husband was smart to pull off the road. Have him see a doctor as soon as he can.
Avatar m tn i have been to a eye doctor optamaligst- and neo optimaligist and have had alot of tests done including eco, ekg, mri and a bioptsy of an artery to the right eye, everything is fine. i have a shadow in the rt eye and a loss of 50% of vision. they came up with a blocked blood vessel in the eye and said that it would not change for the better. get used to it ! am i stuck with this and would continued coke use make this worse, i'm also 58 yrs old.
Avatar f tn By the way, there are different types of vision issues after stroke. Which does he have? vision field loss, eye movement problems, visual processing problems, and then things that fall into the 'other' category like light sensitivity. Memory loss after stroke often also improves, occasionally spontaneously. What type of stroke did he have, do you know? Is he in the hospital or home with you?
Avatar m tn Yesterday I had a disturbance affecting vision in both eyes that lasted for about 20 minutes.
Avatar f tn I'm in limboland, but I've always been heat sensitive. I had heat stroke when I was younger and have had or been on the edge of heat exhaustion quite a few times. I strongly dislike summer due to the heat. I'm in upstate NY and our summer isn't horrible, but we tend to be humid. And, I can count on at least 2 weeks worth of 90+ heat (over 100 with the heat index). In the last year, when I'm overheated it seems worse then it used to.
Avatar m tn The scalp muscles could be tightening up, from loss of fluid, or sun damage. This pressure would cause headaches, and effect sight and compression on the auditory canal. Also, improper eye protection can cause eye strain, effecting vision and also more muscle tightness/fatigue. Lastly, it could also be heat/environment related sinus passage effects. Caused by the above, plus many other factors.
Avatar m tn This is a brief loss of neurological function caused by interference of blood flow to the brain, spinal cord or retina in the eye, with permanent tissue damage. There can be sudden loss of vision, slurring of speech, confusion in understanding or sudden weakness or numbness of the relevant part of body. Usually these symptoms resolve. This is mostly a forerunner of a stroke. Your friend most likely had a TIA followed by a stroke.
Avatar n tn After a couple of days in the hospital, the result was the discovery of the previously undetected stroke and a recommended rehabilitation plan to that of a stroke. The key to me is that heat exhaustion triggered this lapse or acute stage of confusion and short term memory loss. My dad is under the care of a cognitive therapist and is scheduled to meet with a neuropsychologist later in September. Did your neuropsychologist consider the stroke/heat exhaustion connection?
Avatar f tn I suffered severe heat stroke before all of this happened. I will see if I can be referred to this type of doctor you speak of. Thank you for your help!
Avatar f tn I'm a golfer playing in Missouri now in temperatures in mid to high 90's and with heat index over 100. We call it "Survival Gold". All sorts of usual symptoms occur to people from thermal (heat) stress leading to heat exhaustion, heat prostration and the potentially fatal "heat stroke". If this only occurs playing golf in hot weather and in the sun and no other times then it likely is a part of heat stress for you.
Avatar f tn Hi, Last year I had two episodes of temporary loss of vision in my eye. It was like a curtain came down and I could not see out of that eye for around 10 minutes. I did not have a headache. I went in for an eye exam and everything looked good. I then went to my Internist and she had me go in for a Carotid Ultrasound. That also came back normal. The doctor labeled it Amaurosis fugax and told me to stay on a daily baby aspirin.
Avatar m tn Before surgery I had vision from just below centerline, to top of eye. I also had peripheral vision to left, top and right. My only vision loss was below the centerline. The surgery was to preserve the rest of the eye. Eye pressure was only about 19. After the surgery, pressure was too low at 2, and within a week I had chorodial hemmoraging. Then a week later got a retinal detachment. Both times I had emergency surgery to fix it.
Avatar m tn It depends on what part of the eye was affected. Or is the peripheral vision loss from the brain. Please see an ophthalmologist. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn If you wear a patch 24/7 there is a chance of complete loss of sight. This a question best asked of an opthamologist. Often, stroke damage affects the cranial nerves and the eye becomes "frozen" in position. A patch worn for several hours a day (when walking) will help a person retain balance.
383943 tn?1217722721 hi, i am a 35 year old female my doctor says i am having mini strokes,my symptoms are severe short term memory loss loss of balance fatigue confusion vision loss in one eye and also blockage behind my eye.Was any of your symptoms the same as mine?

Avatar m tn My husband suffered heat exhaustion a few days ago. He ran a fever of 101 all night w/ sweating off and on. Thinking he would be in the a/c he went back to work the next day and had to be outside to fix a part on the equipment he was running which set him off to a severe headache, he quit sweating, dry and hot, his muscles were starting to cramp and he said he felt like he could vomit, but never did. He had all the symptoms of a stroke, but didn't lose consciousness.
Avatar m tn The MRI showed no signs of a stroke and no damage to the brain. The nuerologist simply said he had symptoms of a stroke but the MRI didn't conclusively show anything. He simply said they would treat it as a stroke because he didn;t have any answers as to what was really going on. Lather that night, my dad stated that the pins and needles were getting worse in his hand and feet as well as up his right arm.
Avatar n tn There is a good possibility that you suffered from stroke as suggested by your symptoms of loss of vision, numbness and electric shock like sensations in the arms. Also white matter lesion in the brain can occur in stroke. CSF myelin basic protein is a non specific measurement and is seen in inflammatory and destructive conditions of brain. It is not specific for MS. Please go ahead with the stroke referral and let us know if you have any other questions.
