Avatar f tn Ok so it's been a week that I've been having horrible heartburn, my chest hurts extremely bad it's hard to breath I also feel like there is something literally stuck in my throat!! 2120637 tn?1335999377 Hi everyone. I quit smoking just over one month ago. I've been wanting to quit for several years now but finally took advantage of a situation I was in and carried on with it. It all started with some sort of stomach virus. Experienced the usual not so fun and pretty gross stuff that go along with any stomach flu. During these couple of days, I couldn't eat and the throught of smoking or drinking coffee totally repulsed me.
6363715 tn?1394225781 I wish it was true. My first symptom on the day I was supposed to get my period I had heartburn from everything. I was a smoker and even though I didn't eat cigarettes just smoking it would give me heartburn. My son hardly has any hair. My daughter was the same way, but she was bald.
Avatar n tn Hi there, got a brain teaser for the docs if interested… It is common knowledge that smoking contributes and or exasperates GERD and Heartburn correct? Well with me things are quite the opposite. When I smoked I rarely if ever got GERD or Heartburn (yes I know the difference) Ever since I quit smoking about a year and ½ ago I have had to be on 40mg of Omeprezole daily to combat the symptoms. Sometimes I even have to pop some Tums in addition. What on earth could cause this???
Avatar n tn My gastro said, while he did the scope, that everything is fantastic, and he thinks if I quit smoking the heartburn will stop. How true is this?
Avatar m tn I have been smoking tobacco with my friends on the weekends for about a month. I was wondering if I could have caused any permanent or long term damage after only this short time.
9109315 tn?1408617920 Really oj don't give you heartburn, oj gives me heartburn. Real ice cold Water works for me..lol we are opposite. I try not to eat right before bed, and tums I love tums that helps me.
Avatar m tn You also used to have a habit that is known to dull (burn) the nerves, cause damage to your throat, and cause heartburn, and now that your throat is healing, you feel the heartburn. The acid went all the way up to your tongue and caused all the thick mucus, raw feeling surfaces. This may indicate a condition known as LPRD (related to GERD). Recommendation: stop eating peppermints. In fact, try following a GERD diet now that you've stopped smoking. Your body will need time to heal.
Avatar f tn It's the same thing, your belly and baby drop once babys head is engaged. If your doc says your babys engaged then you have dropped. My babys head is engaged but my tummy doesnt look like it's dropped much (and she's so long I still get heartburn and rib kicks).
Avatar f tn easy answer BOTH are bad for you. but in small amounts alcohol can be very benificial to your health but "smoking" basically is worse as your lungs is for intake of air to keep your brain nice and clear. but there again you could live in a big city and inhale all the carbon chemicals and not smoke and have very serious problems. but to make the point of smoking you would be absolutly better off not smoking as we all know it "might "kill you.
Avatar f tn Tums and Maalox are typically the first line over-the-counter medications you can try to relieve heartburn while pregnant. You may find the liquid to be more effective than the tablets as the liquid can also coat your esophagus (between your throat and stomach). Always be certain to inform your doctor of any medications you take (prescription and over-the-counter), and if these treatments have not been effective you should contact your doctor to review next steps.
Avatar f tn Yup. Its the old acid vs base trick. Your heartburn is acid in your esophagus and any form of base would work to coat it. Avoid orange juice, lemonade and spicey foods. Crackers, bread and any form of milk will help. I suggest investing in some zantac. My doctor said its safer than tums or rolaids, as they can damage the lining of your esophagus when taken for a prolonged period.
Avatar m tn No, I didn't feel the lump you speak of when I smoked. I can tell you without a doubt my heartburn and stomach issues have almost disappeared since quitting smoking though. I don't drink at all, but I know alcohol will aggravate GERD especially binge drinking like you do. Just the two beers last night (I don't know what a cesar is) could be causing some anxiety which may nor may not account for the lump type feeling in your throat.
Avatar f tn I had a low ejection fraction and was having attacks followed by constant heartburn. Post surgery I still have the constant heartburn. Nothing makes it better. I have tried, dexalant, prilosec, zantac, tagament. I just started yesterday with green stools. No diarrhea but softer bright green stools. The gall bladder attacks have subsided but I feel like I can't eat anything without being in pain from the heartburn. It is severe!
Avatar m tn I like to eat alot of mexican and italian food, fast food like hamburgs and fries(i dont eat that food all the time), obviously smoking, drinking alcohol. Then you ask why am i complaining and wondering why i have bad heartburn?if i already know what causes it? good question, i guess its so hard for me to choose fruits and veggies over say something like a pizza or pasta. I LOVE spicy food. I do slreep with 2 pillows i cant imagine sleeping with anymore, but its worth the try.
Avatar f tn I just found out I was pregnant like 4 days ago.
Avatar f tn u need to eat a healthy diet and exercise and also modify ur lifestyle...reduce stress....no smoking, no alcohol.... See the health pages for tips and foods to avoid with GERD.http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/list?
Avatar f tn When you stop eating gluten it can take a week for it to all get out of your system before your heartburn subsides and it could take a day after you eat gluten to start having heartburn so most people can't figure out what is giving them the heartburn. People think spicy foods give them heartburn because they notice it more after eating something spicy...it's the gluten people! But that's just my opinion!
Avatar f tn So I've had acid reflux since I was about 8. I've had ulcers in my stomach and esophagus since I was 15. I've gone on bland diets for months at a time and took prilosex and zantac, nothing helped. Then I started smoking Marijuana and it's like I don't even have stomach issues. I'd get the occasional heartburn after certain foods but not horrible. I've been smoking for two years.
Avatar n tn Wellbutrin 150 mg xl worked great for me while quitting smoking. Today I am tapering off the wellbutrin and I have 60 quit days from the cigs. I also lost 8 lbs in 2 months, however not sure if it was the xl or sr or even the current 75 mg hcl that I'm currently on now.
Avatar m tn I've been smoking spice for about 3 months now and I just barely started to get a mild headache that's lasted about 2 weeks. I stopped smoking spice 3 days ago but the headache hasn't gone away. Can smoking the chemical jwh-018 give me a brain tumor?
Avatar f tn I'm glad the Buspar is working for you. That stuff is very mild...I forgot about Buspar. I've been taking B-12 for over a month and it's helped tremendously with my sleep as well as keeping me a little calmer than usual. It's best to get the kind you take sublingually as the stomach has a hard time absorbing it. Just pop it under your tongue.
