Common Questions and Answers about Heart stroke vs heart attack

stroke

Avatar f tn It may not have been a heart attack, but it could have been an insufficient supply of blood to heart cells with exertion of going up a stairway. Sometimes that can cause heart cell damage so you should see a doctor to have an exam to rule out out anthing serious which appears you have already done. It is difficult to know whether you should wait or have an immediate evaluation...I would call the dotor's office and ask for advice.
Avatar f tn I am on Plavix for my Heart Attack and my husband is on Coumadin for a blood clot he had 3 years ago 1 month after he had broken his ankle and had to have surgery. I say he should be off the Coumadin already. He went back to work full time after the broken ankle and also lost 60 lbs. He says the Plavix is just as bad.
Avatar n tn Those who received stents did not show a reduction the risk of heart attack, hospitalization for acute coronary syndrome, or the composite of heart attack, stroke and death, but they did have a greater reduction in chest pain than those who received medical therapy alone".
Avatar f tn This prevents blood flow to the heart or brain and causes a heart attack or stroke. Aspirin therapy reduces the clumping action of platelets — possibly preventing heart attack and stroke. Both medications affect platelette formation (anti-coagulant). The sensitivities of the patient are the considrations for which to use. I don't believe either anti-coangulants thin the blood...according to my doctor.
915775 tn?1243249930 You push a button and it records your heart and you can send it directly to someone who can tell you whether or not the heart rate was anything to worry about. This could help them know if you are truly just having a panic attack, or if your heart rate is too fast, or abnormal. I have an anxiety disorder. I have for several years, but I never had a panic attack until one day when my heart started racing really fast and i fainted. I have had anxiety ever since.
Avatar n tn How big is the dose of aspirin you take, 75mg isnthe dose people often take to reduce heart attack and stroke risk, any more and you maybe risking stomach problems. My doctor told me not to take aspirin at all ( even though I worry about my own chest pains) as it's an acid and can cause all kinds of problems with the stomach. I think you should speak to your doctor before taking anything like aspirin regularly, it's best to have a professional opinion.
Avatar f tn I literally walked into the emergency room with no heart attack nor stroke. Shortness of breath and almost passing out were the promary symptoms. Within 48 hours, they discovered after my admission that I had 98% blockage in three arteries. I bled out after my surgery (had to be resuscitated and was taken back into surgery to repair a ruptured artery.) I remained in a coma for 9 days and in the ICU for 21 days.

Avatar n tn Hello Following an appointment with the heart failure clinic today with my father who is 67. We were informed he has had 20% heart function since suffering a stroke in November 2007. We were told his heart is 'backing up' and he is retaining too much fluid. His Bisprolol dosage has been increased from 1.25mg to 2.5mg with target dosage of 10mg intended to be reached gradually. His furosomide dosage was also doubled.
Avatar f tn Since it is a risk factor for heart disease and stroke, this is important to find out. The current recommended treatment is niacin in a dose of 1-3 grams daily. However, please do not take it without asking your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn Could I have possible had a heart attack? I am a 38 yr. old female. Also, if I were to be okay for the evening and go see my doc tomorrow, would he be able to tell if I indeed had a heart attack with blood work or EKG? Thanks so much!
Avatar m tn Usually a heart attack causes heart cell damage, and ability to pump blood into circulation is diminished. The result is an ejection fraction (EF) below normal (normal is 55-75%) and that is the amount of blood pumped into circulation with each stroke. An EF of 51 (it is an estimate!) does not substantiate a heart attack or if there was an MI (myocardio infarction) very little heart cell damage. Did you have a CT angiogram scan, 64-slice with calcium scoring?
Avatar n tn •Your doctor may prescribe a blood thinner if you have had a heart valve replaced or if you have atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeats of the upper chamber), phlebitis (leg vessel blood clots) , congestive heart failure (failure of the heart to mmet the supply demand for oxygenated blood) , or, in some cases, if you are obese.
1786445 tn?1314968654 I get what I call "hot spots" at various points on my body. It feels like it is in the muscle. Sudden warmth in my pecs or legs or hands. What is causing this? I am a long term smoker so I am sure some of it is circulatory. Heart attack & stroke runs in my family. I am 53.
Avatar n tn A stroke in dogs can also be a pre-warning of various heart conditions, including a heart attack. If treatment can begin early enough, further strokes and heart attack can be prevented.
Avatar n tn Two close relatives of my dad died recently with the symptoms of stroke/heart attack. They did go to see the doctor immediately but didn't make it. So, I would like to know what a person should do when a person suspects that somebody is having a heart attack or a stroke in addition to calling the doctor while they reach the hospital. Thank you!
Avatar n tn A clot lodging in the heart ends up as a heart attack; in the brain it is a stroke. I hope he is getting hospital care right now.
Avatar m tn my husband died three days after being released from hospital he had test done dye inserted to see if there was a heart attack and bloods and test all negative so why is he dead no sence to me
Avatar m tn What can be ruled out with a ct angiogram? Can we see what the EF is ? Also can they find any abnormalities in the shap of the heart? And can they see any major valve regurgitatiOn? I'm concerned ? Because some people rather have a conventional angiogram and don't see a ct angiogram useful and I would like to know why??
Avatar m tn I assume you are being treated for high blood pressure, and patients with CAD and very low BP can increase the risk for a stroke and heart attack. There is a study that 110 or lower for systolic pressure and 60 or lower for diastolic pressure may increase the risk. There are other doctors who want the blood pressure as low as possible without side effects such as fainting, dizziness, etc.

Avatar m tn Then they transferred her to Kindred San Leandro and she went downhill from there. 4 days later she had a heart attack. She lost the improvements. No more tickle reflex, swallowing, breathing on her own, last night they stopped the feeding since she stopped assimilating the "food" in PEG. What if they had not transferred her? Was it the transfer that ruined Karyn? or was it the care at Kindred? I know hospitals have their standard procedures.
1309220 tn?1273697860 The neurologist should be able to tell if you really had a stroke, or if it was simply a migraine that mimicked a stroke, as that can happen during a TIA attack. I would also recommend seeing a cardiologist. I also get TIA, and can lose my ability to talk, walk, etc. I was also losing consciousness randomly up to 10x a day because of the TIA. I finally went to see a cardiologist, at my neurologist's recommendation, and had a TEE performed.
