Avatar n tn html PEGASYS can cause serious side effects, such as mental health problems and suicide, heart problems, stroke or symptoms of a stroke, new or worsening autoimmune problems, and infections. Some of these side effects may cause death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if your loved one has any of these symptoms while taking their treatment with PEGASYS.
Avatar n tn This has been discussed at length on these forums. use the search forum and archives to read more about this. Other things can cause it such as TIA and disease of the heart, brain, blood vessels and and eyes.
21064 tn?1309308733 BUT, he suggested I touch base with my cardio -- something about a correlation between visual problems and valve problems! UGH!! He mentioned the possibility that it could have been a bit of plaque that broke off and traveled through my bloodstream. My cholesterol is OK, so I'm not inclined to think that's a problem. He also said he remembered something in his medical training about MVP and visual disturbances. Said I may want to have ultrasound on carotid arteries. Help!
Avatar n tn I had a TIA in July but was not brought to the ER by anyone. I only recall the very beginning of it/or the actual TIA starting (had trouble talking, walkingbut then the rest of the day except for tiny bits and pieces are gone from my memory. I had a EEG to see if it was some sort of seizure and a U/S of my Carotoid artery. The EEG was fine. The U/S showed some plaque but no blockages. My father's side of the family has a very strong history of strokes and heart attacks.
1309220 tn?1273697860 The TEE (Trans-Esophogial Echocardiogram) is where they inject dye into your bloodstream and send a camera down your throat to do what is basically an ultrasound of your heart from the inside to look for a PFO (a hole in your heart valve left over from the umbilical cord that is usually causes no problems, but can lead to strokes). I did not have a PFO, but it would make sense for you to get tested as you have been told that you have had a stroke.
Avatar n tn Is the presense of a PFO enough evidence to confirm a TIA? Would Hypertension and a PFO increase the risk of stroke/TIA in the future? What would be your advice? Thankyou.
4837124 tn?1359906493 2 weeks ago, while I was having a conversation with my handyman, I suffered a severe headache, feeling like my head was going to explode. (A year ago had a heart attack and stent implant.) My first reaction was to get a painkiller, which I did. Then I thought I should take my blood pressure, I got my cuff and sat down at the table. Then before taking my bloodpressure, I thought "what if I'm having a heart attack", so I went to the fridge to get a nitroglycerin and sat back down.

Avatar f tn My dad (92) had a TIA about a month ago. Is it common for more TIA's to occur now and will this eventually lead to a full blown stoke?
Avatar n tn Get her to the E.R. immediately!!! Could be heart or blood clot in brain.
1481176 tn?1291392092 I am having other problems such as high blood pressure and a pulse that fluctuates, sometimes by as much as 40 points or more, when I go from sitting to standing. I am concerned about a heart attack but because of a diagnoses of orthostatic hypotension I cannot take any blood pressure meds until I get an echocardiogram and a cardiology consult. Now, with the knowledge of these small strokes, whatever they are called, I am concerned about the possible occurence of a major stroke.
502909 tn?1212072396 Ok. This is kind of long so bear with me. I was having some problems with a bad coke habit I had. One night I started getting all paranoid. Felt my heart racing, sweating, high blood pressure (all normal things when high on coke btw) Anyways I was so paranoid I ended up at the ER. They did an EKG, some bloodwork, and a chest Xray. Gave me some Ativan to lower my pressure and sent me on my way because "nothing was wrong with me".
Avatar n tn ve had same problem for 16 yrs this week I had and echo with bubble done on my heart they found a hole in my heart which is normal in 25 percent of population but for me the pfo or hole in my heart causes tia or mini stroke there is a procedure that can fix hole but not approved by fda so not approved
Avatar n tn Hi, my name is Gaynor, I had a second heart attack on 29/3/ this year, went into my town hospital, then was transferred to a heart hospital two days later, had an angiagram on the Thursday, after it I went back to a room where I developed pain that covered the left side of my head,it got so bad that it took over me completely, the next thing I am in another hospital on a stroke ward,I could hear but couldn't respond, It was a living nightmare, I had missed a day,I was then told that I had had 3
Avatar n tn this can explain the one sided numbness or tingling, but it might not explain the dizziness. Frontal lobe problems would also tend to present with behavioral problems or changes. It is likely that a TIA has indeed occurred and the fact that you are still having dizzy spells may mean that there can be ongoing problems with the brain's circulation that is causing you to have these symptoms.
Avatar m tn This is a congenital condition of a communication (or leak) between the left and right atrium of her heart. In May she experienced a TIA while on a blood thinner and the cardiologist decided that we needed to close the hole between the atrium chambers. After closure (which was done in a "cath lab") she has not experienced another TIA symptom. In addition the weekly migraines are gone. Also the vision abnormailities (lighted veil), tinitus, loss of balance, muscle spasms ...
1079256 tn?1256351246 s and a plethora of other tests like ultrasounds of my heart and neck when I had the TIA at 17. They attributed it to a small hole in my heart that some platelets built up on, broke free and went to the brain. At least that was their only guess, lol. Have a great day.
1435937 tn?1283691453 I was wondering if I might have a heart problem that is causing th TIAS an wht types of heart conditions might cause tiaws? Is this within the expertise of a neurologist or a cardiologist or some other specialty? These TIAS really scare me, and no one believes I am having them. I have also experienced blackouts from momentry ones to much longer ones and have periods of time I cannot acount for.
Avatar n tn It can mean serious disease of the eye, brain, heart or blood vessels or TIA (transient ischemic attack), by these being excluded it can also mean a migraine variant called ophthalmic or "eye" migraines. You need to see an ophthalmologist and your personal physician to start working towards a cause.
565873 tn?1216958734 Worst case scenario it can be a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). It is not a heart problem, but it is vascular in nature. TIAs occur when a blood clot TEMPORARILY clogs an artery, and part of the brain doesn't get the blood it needs. The symptoms occur rapidly and last a relatively short time. Most TIAs last less than five minutes. The average is about a minute. Unlike stroke, when a TIA is over, there's no injury to the brain.
Avatar m tn I am 37 years old male. I am healthy. recently i was diagnosed with panic disorder. I have been to the er 3 times with panic like symptoms. they have done all kinds of blood work, stress test to rule out cardiac problems. Yesterday I was in my office and suddenly i couldn't see properly and could not focus. I became confused .my right hand felt a little weak. it was a strange feeling. I quickly went to my doctor and she did some physical examinations said it was not a stroke.
