Heart palpitations upon awakening

Common Questions and Answers about Heart palpitations upon awakening

heart

Avatar m tn About two months ago they started happening randomly. My pulse upon awakening in the morning was usually between 50 and 70, but one morning I woke up with a pulse close to 100 and it really scared me because it remained there for a while. It only got worse from there and my lifestyle changed drastically from athletic to sedentary. Any slight exertion would cause my heart rate to jump to 130+. I saw a doctor and went through a series of tests...EKG, Holter, and Echo.
Avatar m tn hello, pounding heart can just be palpitations. I get those alot, my wife also. What drives me crazy at times are the skips, flips and vertricular runs. It also could be anxiety related upon your awakening. I get that too. For your peace of mind, you may want to see your doctor, and have him listen to your heart.
Avatar n tn Dr isnt concerned. Under general anesthesia or twilight anesthesia, might PVCs or sinus tachycardia upon awakening cause complications for the surgeon? Is the physiological stress of surgery added to pre-existing "touchy" heart (as my dr calls it) dangerous? I'm concerned that a cocktail of anesthesia drugs including scopolamine & versed might make my heart rate unstable, cause a panic attack, and freak the operating team out.
Avatar n tn I have called 911 twice only to turn them away as to the time they get here I feel fine. The only thing is as I am awakening I can feel my heart beating and it is slightly iregular. During the day it is not. I do feel the occasional irregular beat though. I had a cardiolyte stress test and It came back fine. The cardiologist told me I must have an electrical problem and gave me an event monitor. I will keep this board posted. My home email is nydhg.twcny.rr.
1670856 tn?1316777368 You say you're confused about the normal range of heart rates as they apply to different situations. Upon awakening, there is nothing that says your HR should be Xbpm. Maybe you were having an action packed dream just before waking up. Ever woken up out of scary dream and your hearts going like a jackhammer? For that situations, that is really normal.

Avatar m tn As of late I have been awakened by heart palpitations about two hours after I fall asleep. I mentioned this to my doctor and he suggested a sleep study for sleep apnea. I did this and have not heard anything from this. I believe I have This involuntary gasp of breaths and it awakens me and scares me to the point of having a tachycardia. What do you think? What is exactly is this. I practiced anesthesia for forty years and I have never encounted this problem or heard of this malady.
263988 tn?1281957896 My symptoms were nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, right eye pain, right temple pain, blurry vision, chest pain, and heart palpitations. And the actual cause of my symptoms? Narrow Angle Glaucoma Attacks. I never did tell her about the weird spider like shadows I'd see out of the corner of my eye upon awakening. She'd definitely think I was a loony bin case. LOL When I actually got diagnosed I had just hours before I could lose my vision in my right eye.
1124887 tn?1313758491 A couple of years ago, I got heavy palpitations (quick heart rate and thumps in my chest and neck) and irregular heart rate while carrying a rather significant amount of cash (equal to $10.000) to the bank through a bad neighbourhood (it had to do with work - no criminal activity). For some reason, I related the palpitations to walking and not the neighbourhood, and I got palpitations when working out after this event. Holter monitoring confirmed PACs (not PVCs).

1390101 tn?1281004159 It should be mostly out of your system by now but you may still be experiencing withdrawals if you quit too quickly. Early morning awakening however is also symptom of depression. Did you have this symptom before starting effexor?
Avatar n tn (As I had stated it will drop when I am ready to sleep, while I sleep, and upon awakening). Can hormones be a cause of this? I have no thyroid and am on thyroid hormones (I was hyperthyroid for a while which was also what they thought was one of the causes but is no longer the case). Do you have any suggestions or comments that might help me?
Avatar m tn Severe hair loss and thinning, dry hands, feet, severe scalp itch, heart thumping, sweats upon awakening, and during the day sometimes. I could go on but what's the use. Oh, I must not forget the foggy brain. Anyway, I found when my TSH was 1.25, I felt the worst. Felt better when meds were raised to 100 and TSH fell to 0.9. However, this did not last, she put me back on 88 mcq levo and I am now feeling lousy again. Today, I fired her.

Avatar dr m tn Inefficient sleep leads to an imbalance of the involuntary nervous system, leading to what are called “vasomotor” conditions, such as sweating, heart palpitations, and temperature fluctuations. So is a young man with a predisposed anatomy is slowly gaining weight, he may experience all the above “male menopause” symptoms. If these obstructions last for more than 10 seconds, they are called apneas.

Avatar m tn But I have had two scary events, both upon awakening where I saw a black blob infront of my face, I was able to check my pulse during once of these events and it was steady and strong. Also during these events I was either on high dose beta blockers, or Valium which I have had a bad expiercne with. Currently on toprol XL 25mg twice daily, and Paxil CR 12.5mg daily.
Avatar m tn Often upon awakening I will have unusual images in my field of vision. Sometimes I see a black blob in the center of my field of vision, other times everything is distorted and looks werid including having different colors and shapes, and text on written items. People will also look different to me. This can go on for up to thirty seconds or more. I have no other symptoms at the time this is going on, don't feel dizzy, weak, disoreinted etc.
Avatar f tn i have had irregular heart beatm pounding heart and sometimes an accelerated heart beat for over 16 years. For a while it struck worse premenstrually, or during pregnancy and nursing, then phased out as the month or years passed between children. About eight years ago I started visiting heart specialists and took every heart test they had. I wore halter monitors and other receptive mechanisms to chart my heart beats. They all they could do for me was to perscribe Xanax and Propanynol.
Avatar f tn Have you checked your basal resting pulse upon awakening with temperature also? I would imagine this to be low. It looks like you are not converting and using the thyroxine properly at the cellular level because of poor adrenal function http://featherstone.bravehost.com/thyroid/peatfieldadrenal.
Avatar m tn Thought I would post what I have been through during the last 6 months as it might help others. I'm still not feeling great, but hanging in their, hoping Levothyroxine is the answer! Wonder if anyone else has been a similar run of events 07 November 23rd – fainted during the night in the bathroom and hit my head on the metal bath (fainting caused by pain to toe following a football injury the night before).
Avatar n tn I recently have been awakening at night with an overwhelming feeling of adrenaline rushing through my body then my heart begins to race. I have seen a cardiologist and was put through an excercise stress echo test. All was fine my heart rate reached 180 bpm and was sinus tach. No blockages were found and test was normal, EKG was also normal. I'am currently wearing a 30 day event monitor and at present the racing heart has been showing up as PAT's with rates up to 176 bpm.
Avatar n tn I get heart palpitations all the time, and it can be scary especially when they are strong enough to make you feel like your whole heart is going to stop. Mine feel like a fluttering with a few Big thumps. Sometimes one can last a few seconds, or longer. It feels like it takes your breath away. Anybody have those type of symptoms? I started only having a few a month to at least one episode a day. Did go to the emergency room once, and of course everything was normal.
Avatar n tn I've had the internal vibration for over 3 years. Always at night upon awakening. In my legs while sitting at a movie. Are pac's extra or missing heart beats? I get those also, so bad that I've been to the emergency hospital several times, both here in Florida and in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I cannot write everything that I know, but it is extensive. I have been to at least 20 doctors, Mayo,Cleveland and Cancer clinics with no help.
Avatar f tn There have been times that I have slept for 12-14 hours straight with no sense of relief upon awakening. I am sapped & exhausted all of the time. My husband has resorted to accusing me of being lazy & unmotivated. However, it is important to note that I worked my way through both undergrad and graduate school full-time while holding down at least one full-time job in addition to one or more part-time jobs, all the while raising two young children.

Avatar n tn Rapid heart beat (supraventricular tachyardia) and elavated heart rate upon raising from suplime position expecially upon awakening (postural orthostatic tachycardia sydrome). She takes antenenol 50 mg 1x a day. Her heart rate when runnning elevates to 220-240, and when elevating from bed 180. Lately she complains of "chest pains" she explains to be a tightening sensation to the outer left side of the breast area mostly just beneath the breast line, no other symptoms occur.
Avatar n tn I first noticed high blood pressure readings upon awakening when I got my home unit. Alarmed at the reading, I called the device company to see if I was using it correctly. They told me that very high readings were normal upon awakening. Maybe we're just talking semantics here. I was referring to high readings *upon awakening* not morning versus afternoon and the cardiac literature supports this as early morning is the time most heart attacks/strokes occur. The Italian Study supports this...
