881091 tn?1242724466 after hearing from numerous doctors, it appears to be safe, and the large majority of operations go well. it is not open heart surgery, like a bypass, so the chances of living, are alot higher than that of open heart of course. ive never met anyone who has suffered due to an angioplasty or stents. my dad had them and they seem really successful. 4 years down the track and his stents are serving him really well. keeping him alive.

Avatar m tn My dad is 90 years old. He has had stents inserted about 3 times. He has another blockage that needs to be opened up. I took him to the local hospital here in Las Vegas. They performed an angiogram and the doctor tried to insert the balloon without success. He said he could only get it in half way because prior operations had left to much tissue in the way. Is there a chance there is a doctor around that has more experience in this procedure. Is there an alternative course of action?
328381 tn?1269364102 Yes, you can still get plaque buildup with stents, either in or around the stents. Remember, stents are simply used to open up the blockage from plaque, and plaque can build up in any cardiac artery, regardless of stents or not. Yes, you can still have cardiac bypass surgery if you have stents already implanted. However, 45% blockage shouldn't cause severe symptoms.
595144 tn?1219229276 I have two recent stents and a bicuspid valve with only a minor leak first detected 8 years ago. I also have an ascending aorta measuring 4.9cm which is borderline I understand. My surgeon originally suggested that we check the measurement every few months and, if it expands beyond 5cm, do all three together - replacing the aorta root and the valve and doing two bipasses.
Avatar f tn He was however admitted under urology and underwent retrograde pyelography, cystoscopy and insertion of ureteric stents, and catheters. The pain did not subside and the creatinine steadily rose to 360. the urologist removed the stents and reinserted them, the creatinine rose further and another 3 procedures were undertaken over the next 24 hours. His creatinine was 1200 by this stage and was in complete renal failure.
Avatar n tn Hi If anyone is able as before to assist with a heart dilema, My question is: I have a blockage somewhere in the area of the heart { lower descending anterior coronary artery region } I am an afib patient with high blood pressure, hypertension, diabetic, thyroid and bleeding from the rectum because of hemoroids and have recently failed my stress test and ordered to have an anteriogram in the stent room just in case... Avatar n tn I have been unable to sleep laying down now without severe angina inspire of the three new stents. Heart is getting about 50 percent blood. I don't wear my patch at night because I need it in the daytime and you are only supposed to wear for 12 hours max per day. So now I am sleeping sitting up and it is really difficult but cures the severe and scary angina at night. I was losing sleep and spraying every night. Really scary stuff.
595144 tn?1219229276 I had a heart attack two months ago with two stents being necessary. At the time it was found that a heart mumur indicated minor regurgitation due to a biscuspid valve. Further tests showed a dilated ascending aorta measuring 49mm. On seeing a heart surgeon today he suggested just watching the dilation and checking each 6 months. He seemed inclined not to use a metal valve and wanted to delay the inevitable operation.

Avatar f tn The stents themselves aren't affected by alcohol that I know of, I've not received warnings during my history of receiving stents. However, some heart medications warn about the use of alcohol. I'd certainly pose your question to your doctor.
Avatar n tn My husband had 3 drug allouding stents put in Dec.17,2010.He has added a betablocker and yet he still continues to have intermittent chest pain with walking on both level and up hills, and with a cold wind.He has lost 17 pounds since Dec.17th and is eating a plant based diet. His LDL is 1.5(Canadian value). We are suspecting that this is due to the stent itself. He is on Plavix for 1 year.

Avatar f tn What test determined a heart attack? If there had bveen a heart attack (MI) there almost always is heart muscle damage, and that condition can compromise cardiac output causing chest pain, shortness of breath, and muscle fatigue, etc. A simple blood test could help determine if your friend had an acute MI at the time..

Avatar m tn I recently had a heart attack and had a stent (LAD) put in. I have experienced pain in my left shoulder ever since the surgery. I have trouble discerning if this is related to a heart attack or to bursitis. I find it hard to articulate pain to the doctors. They recently gave me a nuclear stress test. Everything checked out well. I am going to have ultra sound test on my upper extremities tomorrow. Just today while taking a nap I felt this gurgling in my heart.
