Avatar n tn He did mention a stent but said it would have to be replaced every six months for the rest of my life - a most unpleasant thought... Do you know if these can be put in place permanently?

Avatar n tn Hi I have a coronary calcium score of 577 and my heart arteries are serverly calcified. Are open heart operations (bypasses) with good prognosis with type 1 diabetics? I have been on insulin for 32 years since I was 17.
Avatar f tn Angioplasty (balloon or stent) treats the buildup of plaque within the lumen, and that plaque can cause an occlusion that diminishes an adequate supply of blood and possible chest pain and eventually heart cell damage if not treated with medication, stent or bypass...end result is heart failure. Yes, drug eluding stents have a history of clots, and plavix and aspirin is recommended for a year or more.
Avatar f tn Well after being put on Coreg I started having left arm pain, tight chest and shortness of breath which I never had before starting the Coreg so I thought all this was caused by the Coreg. Well the Heart Dr sent me to have a CT Scan with Dye to check for blockage, that came back abnormal saying 50-70% blockage in the LAD main front artery.
Avatar f tn My husband had a heart attack two weeks ago. A drug coated stent was put in and he was put on plavix and aspirin. His heart has been heavily damaged. We were told that he needs bypass surgery and it has been scheduled for March 11. The doctor said he needs to stop plavix 7 days before. I'm worried because he just will have had the stent put in at just over 3 weeks.
Avatar f tn Also, some patients may have had many coronary artery bypass operations and be unable to have more bypass operations. MLR is a type of surgery that uses a laser to make tiny channels through the heart muscle and into the lower-left chamber of the heart (the left ventricle). The left ventricle is the heart's main pumping chamber. Of interest is your father's RCA: It shows diffuse disease with mixed plaques in proximal and mid segment causing total occlusion in mid segment.
881091 tn?1242724466 after hearing from numerous doctors, it appears to be safe, and the large majority of operations go well. it is not open heart surgery, like a bypass, so the chances of living, are alot higher than that of open heart of course. ive never met anyone who has suffered due to an angioplasty or stents. my dad had them and they seem really successful. 4 years down the track and his stents are serving him really well. keeping him alive.
Avatar m tn what if they find a bad blockage, does this mean open heart surgery or is it a simple fix. Im just too young to be going through this. Is anyone else out there in this situation and what has been your outcome? thank you for anyresponces.
Avatar f tn Occlusions greater than 70% should be medically treated...stent if meds are ineffective. CABG for occlusions to large to stent, location is not appropriate for stent implant, emergency, etc. For more than 5 years I have known I have a completely blocked LAD. RCA 98% occluded stented, and circumflex 72% occluded. If have no symptoms with regular activities, but before going to the gym I take a nitrate pill and that prevents any chest pain, etc. Hope that gives you some insight.
Avatar m tn I am a CAD patient, one stent, taking Coreg and aspirin. I read that many surgeons are averse to operations on patients taking blood thinners. I'm 86. Is it worth it? Can I not get a truss and take a lot of care and just manage it for whatever time i have left?
Avatar m tn Would any cardiologist even agree to do that? I don't think I've ever heard of it being done.
Avatar f tn after gone under the treatment of stent in heart i have some respiratory problem should i get the stent removed or not
Avatar f tn My partner is fairly stable at the moment. He has had 52 ureteric stent change operations in the last 8 years, and last Feb his urologist where we live now removed it as he believed he didn't need one to begin with. So since then his one remaining (very compromised) kidney is stable and he has no stent or kidney pain. I was just interesed to know about the gross overanticoagulation at the time, as I feel the hospital neglected to show the necessary attention to his INR levels.
Avatar f tn My daughter was born at 35 weeks and was dx with tricuspid atresia and hypoplastic right ventricle. 6 days after she was born she underwent her first open heart surgery an aorto pulmonary window. In the summer of 1999 she underwent her 2 sx the fontan. After the first surgery there were some complications with supra ventricular tachycardias and respiratory complications both of her lungs collapsed for which she had to stay connected to a ventilator for a longer period of time.
Avatar n tn can you still have other heart problem after having a normal angioplasty This discussion is related to After Angioplasty.
Avatar m tn Once there is a stent implant, medication will not help for any lesion at the site of the original stent. Requires another stent or open heart surgery for a bypass. A bypass can be problematic as the harvested stent is susceptible to a lesion, etc. as the original vessel. The best option is to void interventional therapy as long as medication is effective. There is no cure although there is a belief by some people that some medication can reverse CAD due to plaque.
Avatar f tn Why would a doctor want to use part of me when I have already had 4 left/1 right common iliac stent placement and Rt. Carotid Endarterectomy with patch? The block is in a very usual place and too blocked for a stent.
1399500 tn?1280668886 i have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease.
Avatar n tn July 2009 I had a Heart Cath done. I was told I have one arterie functioning properly, My left arterie is 55% blocked and the rest of my arteries are completly blocked. The Doctor said he tried to put a stent in my left arterie but my arterie is to narrow. Don't they make smaller stents and do you have any advice for me.
Avatar f tn Cholesterol medication can reduce calcium already in the heart in higher doses. Medication is always best if the heart situation is not life threatening. An angiogram at the age of 70, can have more risks than for someone who is younger. Sometimes the arteries become thin or weak, which increases the risk of an artery tearing during an angiogram. Does he have diabetes? If so, this would increase his risk. His LVEF is great! Left main artery is normal, which is the most important artery.
