operation

Avatar n tn I am interested in the minimally invasive option since I have no other health issues. Is there any reason I should consider the open chest surgery? Seems like the obvious best choice is minimally invasive. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I will be going in for testing next month to see if i am a candidate for what my cardio explained is a "minimally-invasive ablation" procedure. I'm doing this because I have extra heartbeats associated with atrial fibrillation. He told me that it would involve using a wire to go through a major artery in my thigh and essentially "burning" off pathways from my atria to ventricles ( if I'm recalling correctly).
Avatar n tn Another hospital reviewed the Echo and advised that the opening actually is 30-40mm which is too large to be closed with the device and that erosion could be a problem, and recommended minimally invasive surgery instead of the full open heart. 1. We need to know what is the erosion in these cases. 2. We understand that the device Occluder can cover up to 45mm, provided there is enough rim around the hole. Why the second hospital did not recommend the device? 3.
398377 tn?1201534325 Hi - Does dextracardia (spelling?) automatically exclude you from a minimally invasive MVP procedure? My mom is scheduled for MVP at U of M hospital and even though they don't perform this procedure in a minimally invasive way -they advised me that she wouldn't be a candidate anyway. Is this correct?

1478258 tn?1287390186 Laparoscopic surgery, or minimally invasive surgery (MIS), keyhole surgery, is a modern surgical technique in which operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions as compared to larger incisions needed in traditional surgical procedures. Keyhole surgery uses images displayed on TV monitors for magnification of the surgical elements. Laparoscopic surgery includes operations within the abdominal or pelvic cavities.
Avatar n tn I am an 81 year old woman who has been blessed with excellent health all of my life. Many years ago I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse with little or no noticeable problems. Recently, however, an Echocardiogram revealed an increase in the valve leakage and the doctor has recommended a Transesophageal Echocardiogram. My question to you is: What is the percentage used to denote normal heart function? I believe the Dr.
Avatar f tn The most common location of a subclavian artery blockage is at the beginning of the blood vessel as it branches from the aorta. Many of these blockages may be treated by a minimally invasive approach with a puncture from the elbow region of the arm or the femoral artery in the groin. It would be difficulty for me to determine feasibility without seeing your arteriogram diagnostic test.

550432 tn?1215133317 Has anyone experienced this problem and what can be done about it? I am considering minimally invasive surgery, has anyone had that and was it successful? I am open to any and all suggestions.
Avatar f tn Aortic stenous restricts the amount of blood pumped into circulation with each stroke causing stress to the heart with exertion. The heart has to work harder to meet the oxygen demand that a heart without stenous can easily meet, and if not treated the pressure and overwork will cause the heart to increase in size. An oversized heart loses its ability and strength to contract effectively and that will lead to heart failure.
Avatar n tn Repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm may be performed surgically through an open incision or in a minimally-invasive procedure called endovascular aneurysm repair. A failure with the surgery may require another sugery procedure if the operation fails... "The graft is sutured to the aorta connecting one end of the aorta at the site of the aneurysm to the other end of the aorta. Open repair remains the standard procedure for an abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.
Avatar n tn Dear Subha, Please do not let emotions interfere with your treatment. Now a days, the surgery has become minimally invasive. I would like you to read this article on why minimally invasive surgery is preferred. This article compares open surgery and minimally invasive surgery. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18297352?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum LDN will not help you much.
Avatar m tn Since the re-entry procedure is risy for the second surgery, is minimally invasive approach better? Almost all of the cardiac surgeons that I met suggested that the minimally invasive approach is just a marketing gimmick and the traditional approach is safer. There is just one hospital in Bangalore (India) that does the minimally invasive procedure and that surgeon is confident of doing a safe procedure on my dad.
Avatar n tn Surgeons from Intermountain Medical Group,North Valley Pediatrics212 South 1100 East, American Fork, Utah(Salt Lake City-News) has submitted a research paper in replacement of prosthetic pulmonary valve through a minimally invasive surgical procedure.Although many surgeries have been performed on many children with such heart problems,Mitral valve and aortic valve surgical procedures are done frequently.
Avatar m tn There are some brain operations for a psychiatric disabilities and I could detail them but there are minimally invasive and none for anxiety disorder, more for neurological disabilities such as epilepsy but nothing that relates to you. I doubt they do this anywhere in the world but if you live in a country where they do, that's unfortunate because all of modern psychiatry has abandoned this procedure. Don't even think about it.
Avatar f tn Had echo, severe mitral valve regurgitation, early pulmonary hypertension and i have wegners in sinus (wegers dx 2012.) is repair feasible, minimally invasive repair? Also where is a high volume center in Florida that does mitral repairs?
Avatar n tn Have any of you had any experience with minimally invasive decompression surgery? I am not sure if it is as successful in relieving symptoms or if there is a higher need for other procedures in the future. I am not clear on the average recovery time from the regular procedure vs a less invasive procedure. I am looking for options as my daughter was just diagnosed with Chiari Malformaiton I and she is supposed to start graduate school in three months. Any advice is appreciated.
2015036 tn?1332997788 They have become the first-line surgical approach for patients with MS-TN because they are minimally invasive and can be repeated if pain recurs. Although technically different, these operations share the common goal of damaging the retrogasserian trigeminal fibers to provide pain relief with an acceptable degree of facial numbness.
Avatar n tn I am a 35 year old female. I am a serious athlete, which is what allowed the condition to be revealed. My question is simple: I'm seeing some discussion of minimally-invasive surgery and wonder if this is recommended for a mild leak. This was only diagnosed about 2 months ago... the catch is that over the last 8 years or so, every time I've increased the intensity of my excercise, the symptoms have gotten more noticeable.
Avatar f tn lots of minimally-invasive procedures); phone calls, paperwork, consults, troubleshooting, teaching, research all crammed in wherever they fit; other days may be in the clinic, evaluating new patients how much of your day is spent taking care of or working with pateints? --Some days, it is the whole day (and night! and the next day too! ); other days I write, or study. What do you enjoy most about being a pedatric surgeon?
Avatar m tn That was my mistake, I went ahead and agree to a possible laparotomy if the minimally invasive was not successful. What I could've done differently was asked my gynecologist for a referral ( or search it yourself) to a gynecologist who especializes in minimally invasive procedures. They're out there, trust me...
