Common Questions and Answers about Heart operations methods

operation

Avatar m tn I am wondering whether to try surgery again with all the misery and difficulty or try to live with it with a truss..The surgeon insists that this has not happened in 500 such operations and that additional surgery will require considerably more work and methods due to all the mesh involved. I am very active and need input...Please offer suggestions....
Avatar m tn With children there is usually two operations, the second operation to account for the growth factor of a child.
4998014 tn?1362098632 It does look as though long term this would require surgery sooner rather than later. There are two methods to close a VSD, but one option is not available for all patients, it depends on many factors. The option in question is using a catheter based technique, where the chest doesn't require opening, and the heart doesn't need to be stopped. The other option involves opening the chest, stopping the heart, and cooling the patient.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 21 years of age and I had severe CTEV. I had multiple operations as a child to correct the problem and I still have on-going issues now. I'm planning to have children later on in life, so my question is, is there a chance that when I have kids that one could get CTEV? This is a serious issue for me and if this is the case, is there anything I can do to lower the chances of this happening?
Avatar m tn My father is 60 years old and had a heart attack last week. When diagnosed he had 80% blockage in one artery and a minor block in other artery. His Coloestrol, sugar and BP is perfect. Doc though is suggesting a bypass, can anybody suggest that is it the last remedy or we can have some scope through medicines?
Avatar n tn There are two methods of bypassing a blocked coronary artery to increase the blood flow to the heart muscle. They are the Saphenous Vein Bypass and the Internal Mammary Bypass. I assume the bypass was a mammary artery...it is larger, more convenient, and it has a record of fewer restenosis than sapheneous vein that is harvested from the leg. The usuasl procedure for a bypass occlusion is angioplasy and possibly a stent implant.
Avatar m tn I've managed to eliminate patm from my life by use of no products, operations or changing of diet. I've changed nothing apart from thoughts, feeling different and breathing naturally again. Also I don't have feelings where I see myself and feel myself floating. This is imperative because you need to identify what else is going on for you other than patm and hence being able to see what is happening.
Avatar n tn Hi I have a coronary calcium score of 577 and my heart arteries are serverly calcified. Are open heart operations (bypasses) with good prognosis with type 1 diabetics? I have been on insulin for 32 years since I was 17.

Avatar f tn Enriquez-Sarano a renown heart surgeon with thousands of valve operations has stated the biggest problem he sees is that the patient waited too long for the operation. If I am lucky all I will need is reforming the orifice with a ring and can be done with a cath Before there is any intervention, it is my understanding a TEE is done for the best view of the valve...was that the procedure you had?
Avatar m tn I am just wondering if you know how big the risk is for an operation like this? Do many of these operations happen? Because i have had a few operations before, does that greatly increase my risk this time (due to scar tissue around the heart)? I live in Australia and my specialist here gave me the talk of it being a high risk operation, etc.
Avatar m tn Re-operations are generally thought to be higher-risk than first-time operations, but some of the top centers (on the order of Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, Texas Heart, Mass General, etc.) are showing re-op mortality and morbidity stats that are very similar to first-time stats. The skill of the surgeon plays a huge, huge role. Your daughter needs an expert surgeon. In my opinion, she should try to go to a major heart center for this operation, even if she has to travel.
Avatar n tn I would like to know if there are alternative non-operative methods out there. Also how fast does this grow?

Avatar n tn MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE A LEAKING HEART VALVE. EVEN VERY YOUNG PEOPLE. IT IS OFTEN CALLED A HEART MURMUR. SOMETIMES PEOPLE MAY NEED A NEW VALVE REPLACED WITH SURGERY, AND EVEN IF YOUR MOM'S VALVE WAS LEAKING THAT BADLY, THESE OPERATIONS ARE DONE OFTEN AND ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL.

Avatar m tn I've had SVT ablation operations about 10 years ago with the symptoms of racing heart which was a great success. but the last 2 years I've felt dizzy/foggy and a sore neck, which last for a couple of days sometime more, then nothing for a month, then returns. Could it be SVT again with different symptoms.

Avatar f tn The FDA on Monday expanded its advice to doctors to contact all patients who got any injection made by the company, including steroids and drugs used in eye surgery as well as heart operations. The agency said it took the step "out of an abundance of caution" as it investigates the new reports involving the heart surgery drug and the second steroid, called triamcinolone acetonide.
