Avatar n tn That is certainly understandable in the case of invasive coronary interventions such as percutaneous coronary intervention, which is also known as stents, for stable angina, because even small risks of a heart attack, stroke or death increase in significance when such procedures are performed only to relieve symptoms.
Avatar n tn If neck lymph nodes are enlarged as a result of papillary thyroid cancer, you will need to have them removed in an operation called a modified radical neck dissection. This operation involves removing the lymph nodes along one side of the neck. After the operation, this area of the neck is usually numb because the nerves to the skin in this area are purposely severed in order to remove the diseased lymph nodes.
Avatar m tn I recently found out that my (not very close) friend has a heart defect - a missing valve. He lives a normal life, although he's not recommended to do sports or some hard chores. I'm very worried about him, since I don't know anything about heart diseases, so I decided to ask you for any information about this kind of disease and what could be the major problems it can cause. Will he need an obligatory operation after some time? How dangerous it is?
Avatar m tn Complications include difficulty of breathing, heart problems, kidney problems during or after the operation, though these can be minimized with proper pre-operation evaluation (usually by an internist, or cardiologist). Operation to the spine is also very tedious and technical and the more common complication would include infection of the surgical site. The plates or cage if not properly secured can cause further problems like nerve impingement.

The surgeon conducting the operation would be able to detail specifics. With surgical procedures I know in the U.S. you can meetwith the surgeon beforehand and the anesthesiologist. They prepare you for the procedure. They can speak with your general physician and if needed your psychiatrist as well with release forms.

Avatar n tn My partner had a vasectomy reversal operation last year, 7 years after his vasectomy. When his sperm count was tested afterwards it said that the sperm were dead. Could this just sort out on its own or will he have to have further procedures in order for it to work? He now seems to have given up hope of anything working but I know that's just because he feels like he's failed.

Avatar n tn He was in the hospital when it happened waiting for a heart catherization which was to be done on Monday. His heart attack happened on Saturday morning. Except for being in the hospital, he would have died. Even with that, they only gave him a 20% chance of making it. He beat the odds but is not doing well. The severe neck pain has returned. It started immediately after the heart attack. He is also very fatigued and weak with bouts of dizziness and has fallen a couple of times.

1060769 tn?1254977492 it depends on now much the valve is leaking. The blood is basically staying in your arteries or the heart and it just means the blood isnt being pushed out of the heart as efficiently as it could. Lots of people have leaking valves, millions in the US. Is your leak mild, moderate or severe? if mild/moderate it is likely they will try to control your symptoms with medication. Severe will require repair surgery or replacement.
Avatar n tn My husband underwent a heart bypass in October last year. Almost immediately after the surgery, when he returned from hospital he experienced (cold weather) angina-like pressure on the chest. In March, this year, he was checked by the hospital doctors (had his bypass veine checked - I do not know the English word for it) and they found out that the bypass vein had closed down due to the blood pressure in his "old" veines was higher than in the bypass.
1303648 tn?1274504441 Sorry to read of your son's heart rhythm problems. In general SVT does not just go away, and it should be checked and treated. Because it involves the ventricle it is potentially more serious than the various atrial chamber heart rhythm problems. Treatment may be a beta blocker to lower the HR. This is just one possibility. It is critical that the condition be evaluated by a doctor, preferably a heart specialist (Cardiologist in the USA).

My heart cells were dormant from lack of blood supply over a period of time, but has returned to almost normal. Hope this helps you.
Avatar f tn Although SVT is generally not life-threatening in an otherwise normal heart, symptoms from the racing heart may feel quite uncomfortable. These arrhythmias are common in young people.
Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.
