Common Questions and Answers about Heart operation history

operation

Avatar f tn I don't know about bigeminy, that's not one of my heart problems, yet. But I have had anesthesia many times, including for several hours for open heart surgery. I don't remember any concern by my doctors about my atrial fibrillation and being under an anesthesia. I agree, and assume your doctor/surgeon knows all your heath issues/concerns and medications. That's were your best answer is.
Avatar f tn Well his bladder cancer was advanced, I guess that's why they had to remove the whole bladder but it hadn't spread to any other organs. He has a history of heart problems, arthiritis and lung issues. He still has yet to gain strength in his appendages but is still alive...so would it be safe to say that he's in the clear or at least that his odds of survival have increased?? If so by how much? When do you think he will be released from the hospital and able to return home?
Avatar f tn Although SVT is generally not life-threatening in an otherwise normal heart, symptoms from the racing heart may feel quite uncomfortable. These arrhythmias are common in young people.
Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.
Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
Avatar n tn A low heart rate can cause fainting and a too heart rate can create irregular heartbeats. I assume it is a pacemakers that you reference. It is used to treat heart rhythms that are too slow, fast, or irregular. Pacemakers can relieve some symptoms related to irregular heartbeats. It can help your father who has an abnormal heart rhythm have some assurance of a stable heart rate.
Avatar f tn I understand your concern regarding this situation, but the best person to ask regarding this would be the person who will be operating on you. Any operation carries its own risk. May it be the risk of aggravating the pain or condition or developing complications such as infection of heart and lung problems. These risks can be present even at the hands of the most experienced surgeons. However, this risk should be balanced with the potential benefits that you could get from the operation.

Avatar m tn Having a past detachment increases your risk greatly of having another one in either eye. Intraocular surgery like cataract surgery also increases your risk in that eye. Have a "heart to heart" with your surgeon about the risks. If you need the cataract op to see, do it. I have done many such cases and have rarely had a problem. Also, have the retina checked. If there are any suspicious areas which may result in a hole, you might have them lasered in advance of the surgery.
Avatar n tn My husband is 60 yrs, cardiac pt 2002 heart attach & quad bypass, w/33% heart damage, ascending aorta 4.3, EF 27-35%, long time Marlboro smoker, still smokes, has COPD and has an oxygen machine for sleep re: oxygen levels tested 77-89 during sleep x5 for 15min. Dr. said if EF tests next week is below 35% then defib surgery will be recommended. I've noticed his breathing to be more labored after bending over, walking up 3-4 steps.

Avatar m tn In 2 days, my husband will be undergoing open heart surgery to bypass 7 blocked or partially blocked vessels. Since they will be in there anyway, they also plan to fix his aortic aneurysm and a bicuspid valve that is supposed to be tricuspid. This sounds like a lot to do in one operation. My husband is 43, doesn't smoke or drink, but has a long family history of hear disease. What kind of recovery time should we expect?
Avatar n tn I'm a 55-year old female with a history of two heart surgeries. The first operation was a commissurotomy in 1976 and then an aortic valve replacement/aneurysm repair in 1999. (I was born with bicuspid aortic valve and have been told I have connective tissue disease.) All's going pretty well but I'm being watched for an ascending aortic aneurysm (last year it was 4.
Avatar n tn Summarizing your information -- you are 41 year old NON-obese female who has family history of premature coronary disease on mother's side. You have "normal" cholesterol (don't have exact numbers). You have had overall normal heart history although as a child you had multiple ECGs and your current heart rate is normal (70-80s should be considered normal). I think your risk of heart disease is low overall, but of course there are more you can do to further reduce the risk.
