Avatar n tn I have a friend who had a stroke 3 months ago. She does not have the use of her left arm. Before the stroke she was very active and particularly enjoyed quilting. I would like suggestions from stroke victims as to hobbies that she might try using her right hand only.Luckily she is right handed. thanks for the help.
Avatar f tn I now wear progressive glasses, and can see very well at all focal lengths. The lateral distortion of these progressives does not work very well for quilting, so I will be adding a pair of special bifocals made specifically to use at the quilting machine. This is NOT a big price to pay for clear vision. By the way, I am on Medicare, and they and my medigap policy payed for 100% of the surgery. Thank you, Dr Hagan, for directing on my way to clear vision.
Avatar f tn I try and do an activity that will take my mind off of it like taking a walk or quilting

635711 tn?1267836461 Today I have the house to myself and it is nice and peaceful. So I am going to do a project I have put off for a long time. I am making a quilt today. Everything is cut out now to decide on a pattern and sew it up. No, I don't have a pattern until i get all the color's I want. Then I kind of make a puzzle. I never have the same pattern. All my quilts have been one of a kind. Never use templates...too much trouble. It takes me all day to make a quilt top.
703392 tn?1228522962 lots to do today....quilting, crochet project, dusting, declulttering. Michael & Nic are coming for dinner tonight with us. Looking forward to that.
Avatar n tn I have had one epidural, but I am interested in two procedures that I have read about and understanding the benefits and the risks of either. One is open-door laminoplasty and then other is foraminotomy or formaninectomy- not sure I understand the fiference. I am very active and at this point can't do my routine activities- weight lifting, cycling and quilting. Even moving the mouse on the computer is painful. Sitting is painful.
Avatar n tn Standing with arm on the top of my head or lying down are the only two positions of relief I have. I am a family physician, and it is tough to see patients this way. Are there centers in the US that specialize in cervical problems. I live in Arizona.
Avatar f tn If you know how to sew, look in the quilting section of a good fabric store for cotton curtain material and throw pillow covers. They often have good selections of vintage-style fabrics. Or google "vintage fabric prints" and buy online. If you don't sew, my only suggestion is not to use genuine vintage furniture. My cousin put her baby into an heirloom bassinette, and he fell right through the wicker bottom.
Avatar f tn I do a fair amount of work with the computer and read a lot. I am a quilter and am really concerned about how difficult it will be to use the sewing machine. I had a tear in the vitreous last summer and had a vitrectomy in Dec. which apparently hastened the onset of the cataract. My vision has been poor and fluctuating for the past year. I'm also extremely near-sighted, which is a contribuing factor to the tear in the vitreous.
Avatar f tn Did lots of quilting today, while my husband pottered around the farm and my son hung out with his friend. Interspersed with tweets from My Michelle. Happy Day for the most part, I even cooked tonight.

Avatar n tn I hurt mine a while back from sitting in an awkward position too long (to do quilting of all things). It took a week to settle down. It was a miserable feeling having my right side out of whack. Hopefully that's all yours is - a muscle problem. But like T-Pain said - if you have any other symptoms like blood in the urine or fever, get to your doctor.
Avatar n tn 00 to 4:00. Well on my way on a king size for our bedroom. Fun class. Great instructors.
1253246 tn?1332073310 Humph === you are so active! quilting, jet skying, fence building, peanuts and all your activities ;-). Hope the shoulder is good. Avatar n tn m in tremendous pain and it becomes unbearable when I use my arms a lot, when quilting or working in the flower beds. I'm told that more than the three levels will need to be fused in order to not have fractures of the vertebrae above them. What scares me the most right now though is that a few days ago, I again had the spike of pain as though my rods were shifting (yes, I've had recent MRI's) and now I have new numbness in my feet and toes.
Avatar n tn Went to quilting show with mom and Nancy while Daniel stayed at house with dad. Slightly uncomfortable at first to be around so many people I didnt know.
