Heart murmur causes children

Common Questions and Answers about Heart murmur causes children

heart

Avatar n tn Most children with a fever have a murmur becasue the heart beats fast and the extra force causes the blood to swirl. No biggie. A lot of kids will have murmurs during rapid growth spurts. The signs of a serious heart murmur - one that signals a larger defect in the heart or its arteries are a suspicous sound to them. The child often doesn't thrive or grow normally, especially having trouble gaining weight.
Avatar m tn Well, I figure I should just keep on writing.... My daughter was recently diagnosed with a heart murmur that gets better upon standing but is significant when lying down. She is 3 years and 5 months old and has never been diagnosed with this in the past. She also doesn't seem to get overly tired when playing. I'm kind of freaking out about it.
Avatar m tn All this to say my doctor told me to see a Cardiologist because he said i have a heart murmur. He asked if i was born with this I was not.... I do have chest pain feels deep in my heart especially in the morning when i awake. I already consulted last year for this and the doctor told me not to be alarmed it was probably a pulled muscle. Can anyone please help me understand about this heart mur mur? thank you.
Avatar n tn A lot of children have heart murmurs that are quite benign. Often they grow out of them or the murmur is of no consequence. I have a murmur, 2 of my 3 grown children have a murmur and they're just fine. My youngest son was heavily into sports (soccer, track, snowboarding and even skateboarding), had no trouble. A noisy heart is not a death sentence. I'm sure his doctor will monitor his heart as he grows.
Avatar n tn These go away as the temperature drops and the heart rate returns to normal. Some children with heart defects such as an Atrial Septal Defect have murmurs because the blood takes an unusual route through the heart.. A Functional Murmur is an innocent murmur, where an organic murmur is often pathological, and indicates the blood is having difficulty getting through the heart or that the heart muscle itself is beating in an unusual way.
Avatar f tn my grandson is six weeks old and has been diagnosed with a heart murmur. Is there someone there whose baby has had the same symptoms and what to expect. Thank you.
Avatar f tn It depends. Heart murmurs occur when a valve does not close all the way and some blood can rush backward during a heart beat. It's called regurgitation (just like the regular regurgitation). However, a HUGE portion of the human population have heart murmurs and they are considered benign and generally unimportant. The instruments out there today are so sensitive that they can pick up mild murmurs better than older instruments.
1175033 tn?1492201228 It can be scary to learn that you or your child has a heart murmur. But heart murmurs are very common, especially in children, and are usually harmless. These normal murmurs are called "innocent" heart murmurs. There is nothing wrong with your heart when you have an innocent murmur. Up to half of all children have innocent murmurs.1 They usually go away as children grow. Adults can have innocent murmurs too.
2177836 tn?1355173877 Heart murmurs during infancy are very common, most babies will outgrow them. It has something to do with the valves not closing quite evenly and most of the time is completely harmless. I never outgrew my heart murmur but it doesn't cause me any problems as an adult.
Avatar n tn i am 22 i was diagnosed with a heart murmur when i was fifteen after having my first child. the dr. said i have to get an antibiotic before giving birth or dental work or surgeries. since then i have had 2 more children. i also am a casual pot smoker. my heart feels like it beats faster and my chest discomfort seems worse after i smoke pot. will this kill me? is it the pot making my symptoms worse or my imagination?
Avatar n tn A flow murmur typically is a harmless sound caused by the normal flow of blood. The importance lies in differentiating it from the more serious causes of a heart murmur. The doctors at the heart clinic wil be familiar with this common situation. Just ask them what the murmur is due to and whether it is anything that requires further testing.
Avatar n tn That is the most definitive none-intrusive test I know of to determine the structural condition of the heart. It can measure the flow of blood throughout the heart, the size of chambers, the operations of all valves.. more I suppose. Given you had an ablation years back I assume you have had a echo in the past, but given your condition has worsened, I'd recommend doing it again.
Avatar f tn today because he said this throat was hurting and the Dr. listened to his heart and said that he had a heart murmur. Then the Dr. hooked him up to a EKG and said that he also has Sinus Arrhythmia. I know that people can live with a heart murmur and most will grow out of it, and that Sinus Arrhythmia is not very serious, but should I be concerned that he has both? And what should I do?
Avatar n tn I recently went in for my yearly exam and the doctor mentioned i had a heart murmur. I've read a lot of articles on the web and they all seem to agree that this can be caused by certain sicknesses or diseases, or you have it from birth. My question is if i havent had any of these diseases or conditions and havent had a "heart murmur" show up in the past, should i be concerned?
Avatar f tn What causes a heart murmur? Need info bout everything that has to do with a heart murmur?!!?!?!?!!!!!
Avatar f tn I have a slight heart murmur that I was diagnosed with at birth. I just wanted to know if it could affect me in any way?
Avatar f tn Many times a heart murmur is heart with a new born, but goes away. Also, there is an innocent heart murmur and are common in children and almost alweays harmless. An innocent murmur may go a way and then return and some adults still have them. Innocent murmurs are common in children and are quite harmless. In any group of children, a large percentage is likely to have had one at some time. Innocent murmurs also may disappear and then reappear.
Avatar f tn I asked earlier about the causes of an heart murmur and heart enlargement. I forgot to mention that there is a small hole in my heart and i want to know if this can cause either of these complications. I have been living with this hole for years without any complications.
Avatar n tn I am a 38-year-old woman with no previous diagnosis of heart murmur. I was under the impression that heart murmurs mostly began during childhood and that people "outgrow" them. I have exercised regularly throughout the past 25 years, and I'm in good health other than some joint and back pain from overuse and old fractures. I also occasionally hyperventilate when I exercise very strenuously for an extended period of time. Oh, and I smoke too (bad, I know).
Avatar n tn One type is that due to rheumatic fever. In days gone by this was one of the most common causes of heart murmur. In the antibiotic era however rheumatic fever is much less common. The best way to sort things out in your case is with an echocardiogram. This is an ultrasound exam of the heart that can determine which valve is causing the murmur and give clues as to the source of the murmur.
