Avatar n tn Your symptoms will be shortness of breath, pulmonary edema (fluids in the lungs...congested heart failure), possibly chest pains. With congested heart failure, there will be a dry cough, hyperventilation, fast heart rate, etc. At this time you would be required to have emergency care to reduce the fluids in your lungs, treat any vessel occlusions, stabilize oxygen level, etc. Or with a hypertrophic heart there can be an abnormal heart rhythm.....
Avatar f tn Although, ultimately biventricular/ both sides heart failure occurs, it can start with either right sided or left sided heart failure. The signs/symptoms are of course different in the 2 scenarios. The left sided heart failure presents with breathlessness, coughing, blood in sputum whereas right heart failure presents with swelling of the feet/swelling of abdomen etc. I sincerely hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind regards.
Avatar n tn My husband has had a nagging single cough that he has had for a couple of years. He has gone to a dr and the dr thought he had a seasonal allergy and tried him on various allergy medicine and nothing has happened. My aunt was over recently and noticed it and mentioned it could be something with his heart, such as congestive heart failure. He is 5'7", 150 lbs, cholesterol about 204 and pretty active.
Avatar m tn Those aren't the signs of ecstasy and certainly after a period of 2 months, the drug would be completely out of your system. I would go and have some blood tests to see what is going on.
Avatar n tn Difficulty in lying flat and/or waking up at night unable to breathe and feeling like you are suffocating, are classic signs of left heart failure. The xray report probably means his heart is enlarged. They can tell that on xray but not why it would be enlarged. A cardiac echo should be the next step. That will give a lot more information about the heart size overall, chamber sizes, and whether he has any valve leaking and how much. He should see a cardiologist, not just a PCP.
7356842 tn?1405617843 I had my thyroid removed and, after months of not being fully on thyroid medication, started to show signs of heart failure, namely swelling, especially in my legs (caused by the heart beating less forcefully due to the thyroid hormone not being at the required level). Some Furesomide (a loop diuretic) had me back in shape and when fully on my thyroid medication, the fluid retention went away.
1028204 tn?1277251963 is a non-specific term that usually indicates too much blood flow going to the lungs and also that the heart is working extremely hard to pump blood because of pattern of blood flow. Avatar n tn Thus, I hope this information answers your question - there are multiple testing modalities that can be done to assess right heart function, but the diagnosis of right heart failure should be made from clinical signs. Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only. Only your doctor can make specific diagnoses and therapies.
Avatar f tn I’ll suggest you to consult a cardiologist and discuss the same. Episodes of fainting can be one of the signs of heart failure. He may need tests like echo/stress echo for the confirmation of the diagnosis. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.

Avatar m tn Last couple of months, we did 2 ultrasounds, and her EF was 22%( a month ago ) and 30 % yesterday, without significant thickening of the heart walls. Cardiologist said that her heart function is very weak and he can not do much more to improve it?? I do not believe in that, and he is giving up on her.... Is there any other therapy regiment , that we could use to strengthen her EF and heart function as whole and reverse cardiac decompensation she is currently in?
Avatar f tn Right side heart failure is not as serious as left side heart failure. Left side heart failure signs are fluid in the lungs and abdomen. How much water weight is he putting on a day? Is it a pound? A pound is too much for a day. Most people with heart failure have to go to the hospital every now and then to get an IV of Lasix to get the water off. The question is currently how are his kidneys functioning? If his kidneys are not functioning appropriately, the fluid will not all come off.
Avatar f tn The ABR cream takes a lil longer to "kick" in then the Lorazepam (Ativan) given by mouth. Have you checked about just some regular cough medication if he is able to swallow? Or some Mucinex to thin out the secretions some -again if he is able to swallow pills. To answer a few other questions heart failure and kidney failure go hand in hand. Its a viscous cycle. The meds to "help" the heart failure become toxic to the kidneys and thus renal failure develops.
Avatar f tn Before all the symptoms started, I had a mammogram and they ask me if I have had shortness of breath because my xray look like signs of congestive heart failure.
Avatar m tn I am fully aware that severe dehydration can lead to a multitude of things including loss of consciousness, seizures, coma, and heart failure.
