Avatar n tn Physical Signs of Heart Disease Swelling of Your Feet and Lower Legs Retention of fluid in the feet and legs is known as peripheral edema. Edema may appear as "sock marks" at the end of the day. Mild peripheral edema is common. Your doctor may check for this sign by pressing a finger against your ankle or shin bone to see if a depression is left behind. This is called "pitting edema.
7649778 tn?1401294601 Is it possible to have a higher chance of gum disease from pregnancy? My doctor never said anything, and I always brush and floss, but it's like overnight or super recently my gums got in really bad shape and I just noticed. Could pregnancy be the reason why?
Avatar n tn I have been told that I have gum disease and have been refered by my dentist. I also have suffered with chrones disease for the last 23years and was wondering if this could be a factor to gum disease. My teeth are in good condition and I only have 3 fillings. I am 39 years of age. Please could you advise.
Avatar f tn I have had bleeding gums and gum disease for years. Im 28yrs old now. Each time i go to the dentist they tell me about best ways to clean and floss. I try my best but still never seems to go away. I have brought a very good new oral b electric toothbrush to ensure I clean to the best of my ability. I also floss. I have tried natural mouthwashes and toothpastes containing herbs like myrrh etc which are known to help keep gums healthy.
Avatar f tn Took my mother to the dentist finally since she had refused to go for several years and since shes been having problems with loose tooth and was a problem that needed to be addressed prior to spinal surgery. Dentist diagnosed her with severe gum disease that was causing bone loss and said most of the tooth has to be extracted eventually or they'll fall out. Cause may be cause of smoking (which she quit) or braces that she had at a late age.

Avatar m tn I went for my regular dental check up in Toronto (Family Tree Dental) and I was shocked to hear from my dentist that I have Gingivitis ( gum disease), but I never experienced any pain or bleeding How can this be detected at earlier stage?
Avatar n tn bleeding gums CAN be a sign of oral infection, but there can be other causes such as medication or brushing too hard with a stiff brush. It does appear that there is a link between heart disease/strokes and oral infections. The exact reason is not known but in research groups, the patients who suffered a stroke/heart disease were more likely to be found with an infection in the mouth.
Avatar n tn I don't think it's the simple fact that gum disease causes heart disease. Pretty sure it's more of the fact that people who neglect their teeth are more likely to neglect their body in other ways (diet, lack of exercise) which in turn makes them more prone to heart disease. But if I'm wrong and someone has any evidence of the contrary I'd love to see it.
Avatar f tn Since it is a risk factor for heart disease and stroke, this is important to find out. The current recommended treatment is niacin in a dose of 1-3 grams daily. However, please do not take it without asking your doctor. Take care!

Avatar n tn If stenosis of the mitral valve has occurred, giving a murmur, it could be the result of an underlying cause by infection or birth defect, making the heart work much harder than it needs to. This can lead to eventual heart failure. Of course heart disease can also cause the heart to adapt, enlarge, and force the mitral valve out of shape, making a murmur. So while a murmur itself doesn't give the pain, you can obviously have heart problems and pain while a murmur exists.
Avatar m tn Your doctor knows the major limitation of the stress test approach is that it requires high-grade stenosis to indicate heart attack risk. And high-grade stenosis, while a good indicator of advanced arterial disease, is NOT the major cause of myocardial infarctions (heart attack).

Avatar n tn I wrote last week about my dog, Lucy, who is 11 and is having trouble with choking. Well, she had x-rays and it's what I was afraid of. She has heart disease. Her heart is enlarged and she has some fluid in her lungs. The vet gave me Lasix and I'm going to also put her on Vetmedin. Anyone have any experience with these meds and, if so, how did they work?
