Avatar f tn He has recently started experiencing a wheezing type cough that acts up more at night. I have read that it may be heart disease and since he has a had a stroke that is very possible. But he still seems happy because he still has a healthy appetite and drinks water well and regularly. I am reluctant to take him to the vet because of the cost and because I do not trust vets.

Avatar f tn So it was deliberately developed as an anticoagulant and it was found to have other uses, such as saving lives in humans suffering a thrombus. Warfarin would affect just about any living thing with a blood stream, so it isn't really just rat poison.
Avatar f tn Heart Surgeons frequently find cancer in heart patients most likely due to the radiation from the years of heart testing. My mother had Sarcoidosis, cancer, and severe heart disease. Ask your doctor ways to prevent heart disease such as taking fish oil for the Omega 3, possibly adding vitamin B3 as a lot of people are lacking this vitamin and a deficiency of this vitamin can cause different diseases.
Avatar n tn Did you really mean to post a question about a dog on the Cardiology / Heart Disease Expert forum? There is a forum for pet questions, this forum is for prople that need advice from a cardiologist. Don't get me wrong, I have two toy poodles that are my world and mean everything to me and since my kids married and moved out they have replaced them as the "kids" in the family, I just don't think you'll get the answers you're looking for here.
Avatar m tn Hi, Well, it is very unusual for a person to catch a disease from contact with a cat, such as a scratch or bite, but it can happen in some rare instances. 306245 tn?1244384967 If a child has a congenital heart defect, coughing and wheezing may be symptoms of heart failure and require evaluation by a congenital heart specialist. Special tests such as an echocardiogram or chest x-ray may be required to determine if a child has a congenital heart defect. Treatment is directed at improving the pump function of the heart with medications.
Avatar f tn I am concerned about her not being able to use her back legs. This can occur with heart disease, when a clot is thrown into circulation and causes a thromboembolism. The clot becomes lodged in the distal aorta and iliac arteries which leads to the legs, the circulation to the legs is either partially or totally eliminated and it leads to paralysis. It is a very painful condition. The pain itself can eliminate your cat's appetite.
Avatar m tn Limited evidence suggests that some environmental allergens can cause disease in both cats and humans. It appears that there is a need for greater communication between human and animal health professionals regarding environmental causes of asthma. Specifically, additional research into linkages between human and feline asthma using both molecular techniques and clinical epidemiological approaches could lead to improved understanding of the environmental risks.
785188 tn?1279928405 About a month ago, her face swelled up and I figured it was just a bad tooth - which it was and the tooth had to be pulled. They did another set up xrays and said that her heart was very enlarged and her disease has progressed. They said they would try to do the cleaning and pull the tooth but it was risky putting her under and if anything happened, they would wake her up.
421115 tn?1203444430 Chloe in the last week is coughing if I pick her up where the tumors on her chest are located. And just in the last few days coughs or lt's like choking or something when she lays down . It is like the pressure from the fatty tumors are pressing on her chest and she'll cough. She isn't having any difficulty breathing. I'm concerned. I wish I knew of a doctor in my area that understood dachshunds better.
Avatar n tn Coughing from heart disease and especially coughing at night is a symptom of Congestive Heart Failure. Congestive Heart Failure can give a dry cough or produce white or clear mucus. Has he been retaining any water around his abdomen? If he is, it would be suspicious for left side congestive heart failure which would be more serious than right side congestive heart failure.
Avatar n tn I feel so helpless when she does this and it occurs several times throughout the day for no reason. She also had a coughing fit in the middle of the night while she was in the bed with me. I am noticing it when she barks now too. The bark gets interrupted into a honk-like cough. It seems like she has something in her throat she is trying to clear and sometimes its even like she is trying to catch her breath. Then she will be perfectly normal for hours.
Avatar n tn He probably was in heart failure, and that can cause fluid build up in the lungs causing the cough. (I am a nurse and am familiar with these things in humans, but it seems dogs get so many of the same things as humans) He probably was in CHF for a long time, which would explain his slowing down over time. The flea allergy was nothing you could have prevented and he needed to be treated. You did the right thing by taking him to the vet. I think it was just an unfortunate series of events.
