Avatar f tn I am now my elderly parents only living child. So now I have my special needs son, my elderly parents and have to help with my brothers kids . I thought I was handling everything okay, but upon one of my many 3 hour trips to go help my parents go through my brothers house/belongings I had to pull over because my heart was racing so unbelievably fast I didn't want to die behind the wheel.

Avatar n tn Although results are comparable among older and younger patients, old age is generally considered a significant risk factor for early mortality and morbidity, partly because of the high incidence of coexisting disorders in elderly patients. However, in many elderly patients, survival and quality of life can be improved with valve replacement or repair. The overall perioperative mortality rate for aortic valve replacement in elderly patients is 10.

Avatar f tn Right side heart failure is not as serious as left side heart failure. Left side heart failure signs are fluid in the lungs and abdomen. How much water weight is he putting on a day? Is it a pound? A pound is too much for a day. Most people with heart failure have to go to the hospital every now and then to get an IV of Lasix to get the water off. The question is currently how are his kidneys functioning? If his kidneys are not functioning appropriately, the fluid will not all come off.

Avatar f tn Hi, The edema of the ankles commonly occurs in the elderly due to a poor functioning of the heart and hence there’s stasis of the blood around the lower extremities resulting in edema of the feet due to extravasation of the fluids from the blood. Due to the poor functioning of the heart, there’s poor blood supply to the brain also which can result in confusion in the elderly. Left ventricular systolic dysfunction means left heart failure. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
Avatar m tn I am a 48 year old white male, and I have already had a total of 5 heart attacks (all within the last 5 tears). At first my doctoer thought it was due to my low HDL, as it has been lower that 28 for the last 5 years. But after my last attack, about 3 months ago, the doctors are now thinking that my body is trying to reject the 3 stents the have pkaced in me. This last attack was pretty serious, and we are planning to have a defibri;ator implanted later this month.
251315 tn?1198196557 an additional note is that i can almost guarantee it is related you your heart and blood flow/pressure going through a big jump because the elderly actually have heart attacks in the morning more often than ever because when they get up too quickly their heart cant handle the change in blood flow/pressure and such soo yea :]
900662 tn?1469390305 The links work fine JB. Thanks for sharing them. This information about statins has been around for some time now. As far as I'm concerned, the medical community and FDA seem to want to downplay the potential dangers of statins for some reason. That second link you shared is a perfect example of the double-talk used. The guy being interviewed finds several ways to say, "Well they can do bad things but don't worry yet." So when do we worry?

Avatar m tn One possible solution for moderate asthma is to use a short-acting beta-agonist (SABA) inhaler, which may provide rapid relief from symptoms. To manage symptoms and avoid asthma attacks, people with moderate to severe asthma may need a combination inhaler that contains both an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and a long-acting beta-agonist (LABA). Kids and the elderly could benefit from different inhaler models.

Avatar m tn My heart was racing, heart palpatations, sick to stomach, hot flashes, trembleing, etc. Took a Xanax right away. Thank God for those! Avatar m tn As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic. His typical pattern had been to gain weight and after symptoms of CHF progressed, we would either increase the lasix dosage or if that did not work then he would be hospitalized where intravenous diuretic appeared to control the episode.
Avatar m tn s constant, if it comes on randomly (for no known reason), if you are elderly, or if you have a history of heart problems, you need to see a doctor. If it's scaring you, or if it just doesn't seem normal, I'd suggest getting your doctor involved.
Avatar m tn However every test during the attack and after attack show no sign of any infection, MRI was normal, cat scan normal, heart fully healthy, etc. Since the first attack this has happened 2 more times and each time it is a little worse. But every time he is given the ampicillin and within a day he is a gazillion times better and back to himself.
1110049 tn?1409402144 While it is said that there is decreasing prevalence of migraine with older age, migraine attacks may still be present for some. There are many causes of new-onset headaches in the elderly and further evaluation may need to be done by your doctor to rule out risk of serious secondary disorders such as transient ischemic attacks, temporal arteritis, as well as cardiovascular issues. If it persists, it is best that you have this evaluated further.
Avatar n tn Having an enlarged heart makes you more susceptible for blood clots These clots can travel to the circulatory system .They can cause heart attacks and stroke if they reach the heart or brain. If they reach the lungs it can result in pulmonary embolism. This shortness of breath and chest discomfort is due to your failing heart. Since you have 85%-95% blockage, either Coronary angioplasty bypass graft (CABG) or angioplasty/stenting is needed. .
611606 tn?1315517767 Hi, I am owned by a wonderful 15 year old Kitty. Smokie and I have been together since he was 5 weeks old. A year ago he started showing his age and seemed uncomfortable. I took him to the Vet, and was told that h was very geriatric, so of course I brought him back home, so relived I didn't have to put him to sleep. Now he is getting worse, his cries sound like he is in pain, he longer walks well. I don't want him to suffer, he has been such a huge part of my life.
