Avatar m tn I am a 48 year old white male, and I have already had a total of 5 heart attacks (all within the last 5 tears). At first my doctoer thought it was due to my low HDL, as it has been lower that 28 for the last 5 years. But after my last attack, about 3 months ago, the doctors are now thinking that my body is trying to reject the 3 stents the have pkaced in me. This last attack was pretty serious, and we are planning to have a defibri;ator implanted later this month.
Avatar n tn There is as far as I know no connection between drinking cold drinks or water and heart attacks. After a meal blood flow is increased into the gut and intestines which may place increased strain on an already disease heart. This is why a small percentage of patients can have anginal attacks following meals especially large meals. But the pathophysiology of a heart attack is quite different from that of angina, as it includes not stable plaques but rupture atherosclerotic plaques.
Avatar f tn You can try vagal maneuvers like coughing, gagging, or putting your face in ice-cold water, as this temporarily slows down the rhythm. Medications like verapamil and catheter ablation are needed for more symptomatic SVTs. Also, maintain a diary and note down your symptoms, to see what triggers your attacks. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn If it is related to the heart, the explanation could be the burden to the heart from a surge of oxygen demand due to the swimming exertion, possibly the cold water effect, and smoking inhibits good oxygen flow. "Cold stress acting over a period of half-an-hour to several hours causes the blood to become more concentrated and increases the risk of a heart attack," said Professor Keatinge. "Shorter exposures to cold may make people more resistant to it, but there are risks.
238668 tn?1232732330 Do you have do jump in a cold shower or something? Also I heard something about drinking a very cold glass of water. Is that accurate? Also, could you tell me about the risks of an EP study? I hear the ablation can cause further ectopi. Would they appear immediately after the ablation operation or is there some lag time? Also, in the Philadelphia area, which group (or hospital) has a solid reputation for EP studies? You guys are the best! Thanks again!

Avatar f tn try whats called bio feed back,, to slow your heart down when having a panic attack apply cold water on wrist...have the water run on wrist for a few minutes ..it works! and when your heart skips beats ..cough..that will put it back to a normal heart beat pattern. And just know you are strong and you will be okay!
Avatar f tn Coughing, plunge face into cold water, drink a glass of ice cold water. My favorite is to hold my breath then bear down hard, like when you are trying to pop your ears. You have to do this as long as you can, then breath out slowly. Keep trying until it works. It's really amazing when it activates.
Avatar m tn Mine always look and feel like the classic symptoms of a heart attack.

Avatar n tn A few days ago I was taking a drink of water, that was cold, not ICE cold, and suffered a spasm in my esophagus. It is not uncommon for me to get these attacks wheather im eatting or drinking but this time it was much worse. I took a deep breath from the pain and then fainted out cold. I woke up seconds later with a gash on my chin that needed 9 stiches. At the ER they took x-rays, blood and an EKG which was all normal they said.
Avatar m tn hi guys my first time here! has anyone heard about the health benefits of cold water therapy? Some people advocate , Cold showers provide a gentle form of stress that leads to thermogenesis (internal generation of body heat), turning on the body’s adaptive repair systems to strengthen immunity, enhance pain and stress tolerance, and ward off depression, overcome chronic fatigue syndrome, stop hair loss, and stimulate anti-tumor responses. http://gettingstronger.

Avatar f tn I used to get "mini panic attacks" all the time juss by doin' regular things that I used to do. Like one day after lunch comin' back to work, I went to go grab the Jewelry keys from the Csm's, walked to the Service Desk to get returns, then walked all the way back to Jewelry Counter with the returns and keys and my heart was beating so fast like I juss ran a marathon, then I was having trouble breathing so I had to go sit down In the break room and drink some cold water.
Avatar n tn My friend has these panic attacks his face gets tingly and his hands to and we have to put them in warm water and he goes hot and cold. Also he thinks really negative when he gets these attacks. He has been drinking alot of water and going to the bathroom alot to. Are these symptoms of diabetes and how does he get diagnosed?
Avatar n tn I try and drink some cold cold water and find something to do that makes me happy. Getting a pedicure, talking to an old friend, playing with my 18 MO old. Just stay as busy as possible. Additionally, I believe in the law of attraction, you will attract the negative in your life if that's what you focus on. Try to avoid reading and listening to the bad things in the news it will only make you stress more. I avoid it at all cost. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn Within few weeks started anxiety/panic attacks, more pronounced erratic heart beats, wee bit more tolerant of cold, little more emotional, same sleep issues I have had since being on levo. Had blood draw and after that whittled a bit off my tab (sounded like I was having too high a dosage) until I saw doc 10days later. Don't know why, but she only ordered TSH. Went up this year to 4.71 from 2.14 last yr.
