They do an EKG and test your blood for heart enzymes released during a heart attack. They'll be able to tell you right then if that's what happened. That pain you felt could have been a heart attack. If you've had similar pain for a year it could be angina. Don't delay.

The good news is there is no damage to your heart muscle, which means the things you read on the internet do not apply to you. Those statistics normally relate to people who have dead heart muscle from a heart attack. Your latest echo proves your muscle is fine.
You seem surprised that this has happened at your age. It is becoming more common now. When I was 46 I had my first blockage, but others were seen during the angiogram which had been there for many years.
Can you have a good chlosterol level - slight high blood pressure - normal tryglicerides and not have diabetes and still have a heart attack? Hi Judy- very interesting question. You have mentioned several issues and I will address them separately.
1. Stress cardiomyopathy (CM)/"heart attack" - We see this quite often. Stress CM has several other names - "Tako Tsubo"/"broken heart"/apical-ballooning CM. It refers to a condition where (mostly) women develop chest pain after suffering some sort of emotional or physical stress, and the EKG and blood work suggest a significant heart attack.
