Most of the time it is heart disease, clogged arteries, or possibly erratic beating of the heart which causes it. Sleep apnea also is a new major factor of heart problems, so watch out for that.
Avatar f tn Last night I was doing push-ups and I did one wrong and I felt something start to hurt between my heart and my left shoulder then it spread to my back. All night I was freaking out thinking I was about to have a heart attack. Today it is better but it still kinda hurts. I told my mom but she thinks I'm just paranoid. Which I do get paranoid very very easy. I'm a little overweight but I don't have any health problems otherwise. What do you think?

Avatar f tn When the panic attacks first began I went to hospital thinking I was having a heart attack and the doctors took an ECG, both the charge nurse and the doctor (registrar) said the ECG was normal, they sent me home. Two days later, I had another panic attack and couldn't breathe so I went back to hospital, where another GP took an ECG and said it showed I had cardiomyopathy.

So I begged my dad to take me to the ER and they assessed me and my vitals were about 60-70 BPM when I got there and then they took some blood and I got a EEG or EKG? Not sure I've never had one before but it was the one with the cords they put on your chest, legs, sides and it literally takes 10 seconds and it came out perfect and so did the blood work.
Avatar n tn Not easy to answer, a doctor may have trouble too if your symptom has passed. If you have no other symptoms, nor a recurrence of the episode, I'd think it reasonable to just make note of it, in detail on paper, and take it with you on your next visit to the doctor. If the symptoms reoccur or others appear, make an appointment with your doctor at the earliest possible.

Avatar n tn If a blood clot develops in one of these arteries, the blood supply to that area of the heart muscle will stop. This is known as a heart attack, or in medical terms a coronary thrombosis or myocardial infarction. A heart attack will cause severe chest pains behind the breast bone, often radiating towards the left arm. If the blockage (thrombosis) is not dissolved quickly with medication, the area of heart muscle that isn't getting enough oxygen will stop working properly.
Avatar m tn Heart Aneurysms, although rare, typically occur within the first two weeks after a large heart attack. Following a large heart attack much of the heart muscle in the left ventricle (main pumping chamber of the heart) may be dead. Dead muscle and scar tissue may stretch and dilate to form an aneurysm. Symptoms may include chest pain or pressure, pain in the jaw or arms, trouble breathing or fainting spells. Rupture of a ventricular aneurysm is usually fatal.

Avatar m tn A man beside me told me that he had had a heart attack a week ago. He said that the only pain he felt was in his left arm. He also had some numbness in his arm. He went to the ER. They rushed him into the cath lab and placed a stent in one of his coronary arteries. He saved himself any real damage to the muscle of the heart, by acting on his instinct. He looked just fine to have had a heart attack a week before.

Avatar n tn Hi Judy- very interesting question. You have mentioned several issues and I will address them separately. 1. Stress cardiomyopathy (CM)/"heart attack" - We see this quite often. Stress CM has several other names - "Tako Tsubo"/"broken heart"/apical-ballooning CM. It refers to a condition where (mostly) women develop chest pain after suffering some sort of emotional or physical stress, and the EKG and blood work suggest a significant heart attack.
Avatar m tn HI The good news is there is no damage to your heart muscle, which means the things you read on the internet do not apply to you. Those statistics normally relate to people who have dead heart muscle from a heart attack. Your latest echo proves your muscle is fine. You seem surprised that this has happened at your age. It is becoming more common now. When I was 46 I had my first blockage, but others were seen during the angiogram which had been there for many years.
