Common Questions and Answers about Heart and stroke health check program

stroke

Avatar f tn If this person is older they could have had a grandma seizure which represents signs of a stroke I would also ask the doctor to take a full urine check and make sure that the electrolytes are at a sustainable level. Magnesium (low) can be very hard on the body and is vital to ones health so definitely ask the doctor as to whether the renal function of the patient is at a good level. Please ask if you have any further questions.
Avatar f tn I actually found that a low dose of BB can give my running a boost, particularly if I have been experiencing symptoms whilst running. With the bad heart beats gone, I can feel better and run better. I will say though that the BB can also work the opposite direction if I take more than I need.

159619 tn?1707018272 In fact, at my last meeting with my cardiologist last fall to review a new echo, she told me that my EF has not changed from 55 -65% in three years and my heart was still normal and I really no longer needed regularly scheduled visits with a cardiologist and that my family doctor could manage my care and refer me back if necessary. I have been getting some mixed messages about the level of exercise I should shoot for.
368646 tn?1208393887 It protects the heart, strengthens circulation, and helps to maintain the tone and health of the heart muscle. It is also useful in stopping bleeding and to promote healing after a heart attack or a stroke. Tumeric, onions, ginger, soy are all god stuff for your heart, brain and cholesterol. I think the most important herb to point out is Hawtorn since it suit your condition and might be extremely useful for you.
Avatar n tn try to take medicated marijuana .
Avatar n tn t seem to be the case, you could have made a wrong movement or something like that. High blood pressure will cause issues with the heart, but if you have a mini stroke you would most likely know. I am not a professional but I am guessing they put you on some type of pill for the blood vessel. Just do what they tell you and if your problems continue then you should tell your doctor what you think and he will let you know his professional opinion.
Avatar f tn What is the easiest way to get back into an exercise and dieting regiment, Without putting too much stress on the heart and body?
Avatar n tn She said yes, but the odds of me having a stroke are very low, especially right now while factoring my age and current health. This medical world is all too new to me - I will most likely have a second opinion - she did start me on asprin therapy for the time being to avoid clots/stroke. She did state that now they have put repair as a last case -- unless stroke or other serious symptoms have already occurred.
Avatar m tn 67 x 23 (age)) = 191  191 - 65 (resting heart rate) = 126  126 * 65% (low end of heart rate zone) OR 85% (high end) = 82 OR 107  82 + 65 (resting heart rate) = 147  107 + 65 (rhr) = 172  The target heart rate zone for this person would be 147 to 172  First thing in the morning before you get out of bed have a clock with a second hand and check your resting heart rate then figure your rate by the  Karvonen Formula above.
Avatar n tn I have been having numbness and tingling in my left arm and hand, sometimes my left leg and even tonight a little in my right arm. I have a family history of stroke (mother died of stroke, and grandmother on her side too), but I also read that menopause can cause numbness. I admitted myself to ER two weeks ago due to these symptoms (and some indigestion), and since then have had a stress test (which was borderline), and am set up to do a heart cath.
Avatar n tn Hi. I am 33 and in fairly good health. I started having palpitations one day when I was just laying on the couch back in November. It happened just once, so I didn't think anything of it. Well, I started having a few more and it scared me! I called the doctor and they took me right after I had another one. They did an EKG and it was fine. They sent me for an Echocardiogram and that also came back normal. I wore a Holter for 24 hours and nothing.
Avatar f tn Our brains are very adaptive & there are things that you can do to increase the likelihood of being one of the 90% who achieve full recovery. Most importantly, regularly exercise your body & your brain. Get your heart rate pumping & learn a new skill or do puzzles. The amino acid d-phenylalanine can help restore natural endorphins in some people. Sex is also helpful. "The brain that changes itself" by neuroscientist, Dr.
Avatar n tn Hi, Ihope your husband is doing better. I took a stroke over 3 years ago. And I lost the use of my left arm and leg. I think the worst is my voice my left vocal cord is parralized making speaking so difficult. I sympathize with you and your husband. It just *****!
Avatar f tn That numbness on one side and nausea is a sure-fire sign of stroke, and it must be treated within a certain period of time to prevent damage from becoming permanent or disabling.
Avatar m tn Hi! I am very concerned about a relative of mine who had a stroke about two months ago. The stroke didn't leave any very serious damage, but nevertheless he had an operation on his heart to insert a device to block the flow of blood from one chamber to another, as he had a PFO or a small hole in the heart. This was done successfully. He also has an anuyerism on his heart in the same area, which I believe gave rise to the stroke initially, as a clot went to his brain.
Avatar f tn Then he/she could explain it, give you peace of mind and work out an exercise program that would be safe and fun. Keep up the good work.
Avatar f tn I had woke up on the 26 with drooping in face and neck, with arm weekness and leg numbness and could not use it, TIA'S,then ended back in hospital the following day with severe angina,i have had severe problems with my breathing. is anyone having any of these horrible symptons.I am very worried about these things. yes i know its normal to have some side affects like severe flu symptoms cramping nausea ect.....
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome to the forum. So very sorry for the delay in answering your question. We hope you've worked with your doctor on this serious issue. Have you been to a neurologist? Please do this as soon as possible if not. Mini strokes or transient ischemic attacks (TIA's), are serious. They are basically a stroke, however, symptoms are temporary. They are caused by a clot or bleed that interrupts blood flow to part of the brain.
8650265 tn?1421565413 I did tell them that she has had multiple heart attacks and a stroke. The thing is, when they told her she had it, was after her stroke. And now she hasnt been able to get them to tell her again what the disorder is again, all i know is that it could be hereditary. But my next appointment is in mid july, i will make sure i bring it up when i see my doctor.

Avatar f tn I have found some excellent information and advice in Arthur Agatston's book, "The South Beach Heart Program." Agatston is the author of "The South Beach Diet, and he is also a renown cardiologist. He writes about "aggressive prevention" of heart disease and relates that he rarely sees heart attacks among his patients who follow his program--even though they come to him with heart problems.
