Common Questions and Answers about Healthy meals recipes kids

1237365 tn?1278453230 I was hoping some one could give me info on some good Websites or Books that could give me some recipes for kids that are healthy and SIMPLE. By simple I mean pretty basic stuff that doesn't have a lot of spices or prep time and is inexpensive. I'm a single mom of 5 kids and (i'm disabled so we live off of my Social Security Disability) we get a lot of food boxes which has basic stuff like rice, beans, pasta's,lunchmeat, hamburger and canned foods.
Avatar f tn I will definitely add some recipes for you, A family of 7!! Wow, that is a big one. My husband was one of 7 kids and then his parent, so 9 people. His mom sure made the budget spread out!! I think one thing with kids that is important is food they'll actually eat. Do you ever do anything like substitute ground chicken for ground beef? That has really helped me stay more to the lean meats while pleasing my kids with things like spaghetti for dinner (which you can spread a long way).

203342 tn?1328740807 I know that's not the healthiest or most cost efficient way to provide meals for my family. Can you guys give me some recipies for quick, healthy meals or meals I can throw in the crock pot in the mornings before I go to work? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Any ideas for healthy family meals that don't include peppers/tomatoes/fish/lentils? Am struggling, one minute am told pasta bakes a no no then they are ok. Also jacket potato, bad or good?

162279 tn?1270604959 There's a new Healthy Cooking community where you can post recipes and tips. I'd love to see what kind of summer recipes people have...It's already too hot here for my taste.
Avatar f tn in my quest to prepare healthier meals, my family (a.k.a. my 3 kids) have been complaining that my cooking tastes bland and boring, "but not too gross to eat" ~ sadly, I have to agree w/ them... My question(s) is: what ingredients can I use as a substitute for sugar when cooking meals that call for salad dressings or pasta sauces?
Avatar n tn Do you guys have any easy recipes? Something enjoyable to eat (mostly healthy) but easy to fix. -------------------------------------------------------- The guy is asking for easy recipes!

168348 tn?1379360675 Anybody have a recipe to share that is healthy, kid-friendly and, of course, easy-to-cook? Seems the older my kids get, the harder it is to find recipes they all will eat! My children range in ages 9-17 They are "bored" with the same thing .. can I blame them? So, I welcome any recipes you care to share :) Thanks MedHelp for this great new community! I'll be checking it daily for new ideas!
203342 tn?1328740807 I really want to find some healthy and tasty meals my family will eat without blowing the grocery budget. Someone once told me that buying and cooking for the month can help. I tried that once and it was ok but I spent two days in the kitchen cooking so I wasn't real thrilled with that part. Besides we don't have a deep freezer. It's something we're thinking about if it will help costs in the long run. I do try to use coupons when I can.
Avatar f tn I agree that a crockpot is a very easy way to cook.. There are tons of healthy recipes... you can get it started when you get up in the morning, then it's truly okay to "forget" about dinner, because it's cooking all day. You can feed your younger children earlier if you need to - it's not good to feed them too close to bed time - then the rest of you can eat when your husband gets home.
Avatar f tn how much calories should I be eating a day and some recipes you recommend me I have three kids and is hard for me to make something healty for me that the kids would like too
Avatar f tn It was fantastic. She gave me some great ideas and even some recipes for kid friendly, healthy high calorie meals. My little guy is younger then yours, but I was adding things like shredded cheese, sauces, gravies to meals as often as I could. I also learned that the worst thing I could do was make a fuss about what he was or was not eating. It turned the situation into a power struggle. Now, I just put his meal or snack in front of him and don't say a word.
172023 tn?1334675884 You can read about it either in my previous journal listing about it, or over on Healthy Cooking. Or not; seems like not much interest! For those who might be interested, each week we post a secret ingredient. Your challenge is to search for a recipe (from any source) using the secret ingredient, post it over on Healthy Cooking, make it, and write a little review. It should have 400 cals or less per serving (for the recipe only). That's it. Guess no one cooks!

Avatar n tn Can you tell us where to find recipes for seems as if there is nothing for him to eat. He hasn't gained any weight in a year! Next week he is being tested for environmental allergies. Thanks for any info.

676912 tn?1332816151 I usually have two or three easy meals for busy days and four or five bigger meals for regular days. It's not hard to cook healthy and it doesn't take any longer than a boxed meal.
178590 tn?1294180367 pancakes aren't horrible at all. In fact, they are very healthy. You could try mixing veggies into their meals without them knowing it. You can try using chicken breasts and cut them up into chicken nugget sizes and use breading and make your own. Cook them in olive oil instead of cooking oil or canola oil. Have you tried giving them salad with some low fat dressing? You can try baked potato and put the lower fat butter on it. I use the low fat I can't believe it's not butter.
Avatar m tn Your diet should mostly consist of protein, healthy fats, vegetables, and occasional fruit. Avoid sugary drinks. Instead of drinking juice, eat the fruit. Drink mostly water. If you need help with meals and snacks, just leave me a message. It's not easy changing what you eat. I've had to work with two of my three kids because they have a tendency for high insulin levels. I changed their diets slowly. I buy frozen fruit, put it in a blender with some water and make slushies.
