Avatar f tn If you are aiming at losing weight, it is important to calculate your current BMI and the target BMI. The target BMI should be in a healthy range. For exercises you could start with the easy ones such as walking, sprinting running etc. A balanced physical workout should rotate between various activities such as cycling, swimming, jogging, gymming etc. Aside indulging in moderate amounts of physical exercise it is also essential to maintain a healthy diet plan.

Avatar n tn Zone 3 is 70-80% of your target heart rate and results in increased aerobic and cardiovascular fitness. Sounds like you are training in high Zone 4 or even Zone 5. This level is for elite athletes and should only be visited for short periods by normal folk. You may want to spend more time doing light cardio. I agree with greendave, as a lot of us go full out and end up sustaining an injury or something worse. Get a good flexability program going to.

Avatar n tn From my knowledge as a fitness instructor, when people push their exercise beyond there fitness level, then their heart rate stays high for a prolonged time after exercise. So, the next time you exercise try to decrease the intensity of the exercise and keep your heart no higher than 150bpm. When raising your heart rate to 170 that is only for trained athletes who want to increase their cardiovascular level. To stay healthy and stay in the fat burning zone, 170 is much to high.

Avatar f tn Everyone carries their weight different. If you are HEALTHY at your current weight and are perfectly happy where you are, then maintain. If YOU feel, not other people, that you may want to drop a few pounds or tone up, then by all means do what makes you happy. Sometimes, just increasing your activity level can make all the difference. Try something your curious about, kick boxing, yoga, walking around the block, etc. You might find something that helps you feel how you want to.
Avatar n tn I'm a healthy, 28 year old woman. 5'6", 200 lb. (I say healthy because I have no health problems, not because I think I'm at a healthy weight...I know I'm not.) I have been using MedHelp to track my calories and exercise. I've reduced calories to 1500, getting most through lean protein, whole grains, fruits and veggies, and nuts and seeds.

Avatar n tn s book on Heart Zone Training. She says fitness improves from 70-80% of target heart rate (calculated by greendave). However, should slowly improve to this. Working out too hard can cause increase in resting heart rate. I am on 25 mg Atenolol because resting heart rate was too high. I wish I had known about this stuff two years ago, as I would have taken training more seriously. I am able to get my heartrate into proper zone during exercise and this has improved my blood pressure.
Avatar n tn The Karvonen Formula is a mathematical formula that helps you determine your target heart rate zone. The formula involves using your maximum heart rate (MHR) minus your age to come up with a target heart rate range (which is a percentage of your MHR). Staying within this range will help you work most effectively during your cardio workouts.
Avatar n tn Personally I find it easiest to start with diet. Make a plan that ensures you are getting enough calories and has a few healthy snacks included. Make sure you're drinking enough water and cutting out fatty and overly processed foods. For when you start school, you can make these meal a head of time (like during the weekend) so you aren't tempted to order out.

Avatar n tn There's no way for anyone to answer this question who doesn't know you and your level of fitness. If you work out too hard, you can injure yourself if you're not an experienced athlete or used to working out. If you're just starting out, you start out slowly, and work your way up to a level you can handle, again, without injuring yourself. But keep in mind, what we call exercise is only necessary if you live a sedentary life and eat a poor diet.
Avatar m tn If you're 5'4 then 111lbs is actually just borderline normal weight. Anything below that and you're classed as "underweight". While you may have been a couple pounds lighter before you had your daughter, think of all the changes your body's been through since then, and maybe just let it hold onto 5lbs! You're a fully matured woman now! You do a lot of exercise too, and don't mention whether you did the same routine before pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I just wanted to ask that if I want to lose weight, then am I keeping my heart rate in the right zone? I do not want to jog or run. Normal to brisk walking is all that I want to do.
Avatar m tn Focus on high endurance training at this point and follow the 40/30/30 zone style of eating with carbs at 40%, protein at 30%, and healthy fats at 30% daily. Multiply your body weight x 0.6 for water needs in ounces daily. Stay focused Stan6933.

Avatar f tn I gained about 20 pounds in about 2 months or so on the last birth control pill that I used (I stopped using any hormonal birth control 8 months ago). I have also previously had an abnormal glucose tolerance test (insulin resistance) but very little advice from a doctor about what to do about it. I also was recently tested for PCOS but it was determined that I do not have this.
Avatar f tn m not sure what to do to get strong, healthy legs. I work out on the bike for 45 minutes and I do the ski machine for 15 minutes. What other machine could I use? I'm also doing the 30 day squat challenge.
