Avatar n tn Dear Paula526, Depending on where you live, there are plenty of affordable private individual health insurance plans that you can apply for. Just keep in mind that private individual health insurance is “underwritten” in most states & not guaranteed issue. That means whether or not the carrier issues a policy will depend upon the applicant’s health history. I am not saying every simple flu or cold can get you declined, but I am saying that it is considered during the underwriting process.
587437 tn?1219893624 Yes, I have my MRI's then I had an accident and had another one. Since IHOP doesn't have health insurance and I have to go to the county hospital for care--this is a slow process since I have numerous health issues. I'm going to school for my bachelors then hopefully masters and don't have a lot of time. My primary care doctor there seems to think I have other health issues that need more immediate attention and everything goes so slow in the county system.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if I lose my mothers medical insurance (Bluecross Blueshield of Iowa) if I don't go to college next year? My brother did but I was told I wouldn't because I'm considered a dependent. The reason why is because I became paralyzed in 11th grade. Do you believe this is true?

She has a healthy heart and it is working well. With this impact her chances to get health insurance on her own? Will it impact our ability to continue her insurance after the cobra period is over on our insurance?

521840 tn?1348840771 Unfortunately, many psychologists can no longer afford to participate with insurance companies or Medicaid/Medicare. The reasons for this include low reimbursement rates, frequency of denied payment for services, and the burden of insurance related paperwork. While the situation is problematic, there is no reason to assume that you can not get the care you need. On the bright side, if you can take the time and energy to search, you have a good chance of finding someone who can help.
Avatar f tn I hope someone else on this forum will have some ideas for you. Since your daughter is in college, would it be possible for her to go to the infirmary and seek help there? Surely they must know that students don't always have insurance or a rich parent at their beck and call. Maybe you could call the school and inquire about that? Guess all they can say is no. Another option is for you to take her to the ER.
393685 tn?1425812522 Schools are not required to provide copies of records unless, for reasons such as great distance, it is impossible for parents or eligible students to review the records. Schools may charge a fee for copies. Parents or eligible students have the right to request that a school correct records which they believe to be inaccurate or misleading. If the school decides not to amend the record, the parent or eligible student then has the right to a formal hearing.
Avatar f tn Every month George Washington University freshman Jessi Payton walks to the pharmacy on campus and pays $15 for her birth-control prescription. Her mother’s insurance covers the bulk of the cost, and the rest comes from the money she saved waiting tables last summer. Since she doesn’t have a steady income, Payton is grateful for her mom’s assistance.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone! I am so sick of health insurance companies its ridiculous!! My only idea of what to do next is go to their office and stomp up and down and scream at them to kiss my A**! I am at wits end... so I was hoping if i posted my insurance dilemma here.. maybe someone else has some insurance knowledge that they could share with me and a more appropriate plan of action than my stomping and screaming approach :) lol Heres my issue....
Avatar m tn Colleges often have mental health programs where students can go for support groups, counseling, etc. Colleges realize this age is often when mental health issues begin, so they often have a program, a place where students can go. Same for addiction disorders, they'll have support for that. Best thing parents can do is remain open and supportive. Be someone they can talk to safely without judgement. You may voice your concerns and worries.
Avatar m tn That's an awful broad brush to tar all 'college students' with pardner, just because a few students on one campus are idiots. I know at UT Austin the Liberal students would be horrified and would argue with his bigoted @$$ until they realized he was a put on, while the conservative students would simply whack him over the head with his clipboard.
Avatar f tn Are you in sports? Calories for college students vary because of differences in physical activity. Make sure your diet is mostly whole foods including low-fat dairy, whole-grains, lean protein, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and healthy oils. Don't skip breakfast. Don't get in the habit of staying up late, then rush to get to class. You need food to get your metabolism up, your energy levels will be low and you'll be starving and likely to overeat by lunch.
1412618 tn?1281730072 Medicaid is generally for low income families and the disabled. I'm not sure you qualify just because you can't find work. Medicaid is very straightforward as to who qualifies. Google MEDICAID and it will pull up all types of info including the rules in your state. I don't think there is free insurance for full time students, but again google it and you might find something. Goodluck...
Avatar f tn You can get financial aide and student loans and grants. Kaplans pretty good.
10626389 tn?1412006663 Hey guys! I'm a senior in college this year and I seem to be struggling with my weight. Ever since I transfered to a further campus, I've slowly started packing on the pounds. I don't have access to home-cooked meals, just what they serve in the dining hall or take out/frozen foods. I've recently stopped drinking soda and cut down on the coffee. I try to stay active sad eat more fruits and veggies. But I still get munchies for junk food.
Avatar n tn It’s not uncommon for students moving away to college for the first time to have frequent infections (living in close quarters to many other students, changes in diet and sleep patterns, and a number of other things that may affect her immune system). Although bleeding gums can be associated with leukemia, it is rare. Also given her young age, I sincerely doubt that she has leukemia.

Avatar n tn I worked extensively with International Students at my last position for may years. I know the challenges you face when coming to our country especially with health care. Have you contacted your sponsoring agency? Not the one that employees you but the agency that helped you to come to the USA? They should be able to assist you in any health related issues. Also see your employer's Human Resource Department. They should be your advocate.
1884909 tn?1322538765 With no income, no health insurance, no means to pay, I still call and wait outside my doctors office. He kept helping me after college (college health insurance) I made it damn clear, I ain't giving up. I swear, It is like I have the inability to give up because dammit I want to. It *****. But myself will not seem to let myself. With little steps and actions I am closer to getting free counseling, at least for now and that could start maybe as soon as this week.
148588 tn?1465778809 Did you assume my comment had anything to do with kids going to college? I was talking about something that I see our country can improve upon. Many other countries put resources into helping their young people find the right direction for themselves and we could do more of that. Teko, actually I think you put that very well and would agree regarding student loans. The rate shouldn't be higher than banks. That makes no sense.
