Hi...driving up to NYC to see my DD was too much for me at one time too....and the one thing that helped me was to recline the front passenger seat and then use a big fluffy bed pillow behind my head....the amount of incline was deleted by adding the pillow so I appear to be upright, with the slightest bit reclined, the pillow helps hold my head from bobbing all around and cushion bumps....I also found a hat to block the sun from my eyes helps too....
I have felt around back there and it does not feel soft and is such a small area I doubt that it will be an issue...especially since it resets back under bone....which even if I fell and hit my head the bone would hit the ground first,....not the "soft" spot....
