676912 tn?1332812551 This is what gets them in trouble many times. I do believe in sex ed classes, even in middle school, BUT -BIG BUT- I don't agree with the way the majority of schools are handling them. Many schools, especially in more liberal parts of the country are throwing in lessons on homosexuality, etc. I have nothing against gay people, I have many friends who are gay or bi, but I don't believe it should be "taught" in school.
Avatar f tn Anyway somewhere in the Neatherlands they start teaching sex education in kindergarten and they have the lowest teen pregnancy and abortion rate in Europe. Found a link, it was the Dutch. It's not the article I read though, but still talks about their sex ed. http://www.rnw.
Avatar n tn He uses a pump. He had wonderful grades in elementary school, but since being in junior high last year, his grades are slipping and we have a hard time getting him to turn in his work. It seems that he is very forgetful (for instance last week we helped him do a lengthy math assignment at home and he forgot to take it from his locker to class). The teacher would not let him go back and get it so he had to do it over in class while the teacher was going over it.
Avatar n tn I don't believe so. I had an accident once in 1st grade while sitting in my chair in the classroom and once in 3rd grade while sitting on the gym floor. Both because a teacher would not allow me to go to the restroom and told me to "just hold it". All children have different amounts of control over this, and so the allowance for this needs to favor those children who can not handle it.
Avatar f tn It is not unusual for children to struggle with academic work once they get to junior high school. Often children who are "well behaved" throughout elementary school, teachers have a tendency to "pass" them. It is unusual for a child who has always done well and has been described to be well behaved to suddently be called "lazy"..etc. Is your daughter happy at the junior high?....does she continue to have the same friends?
Avatar f tn My neice has started crying in school. She is 10 years old, and almost every morning she starts to cry's when she gets off the school bus. It has exclated to crying in class, crying in the lunchroom. This bout started after she was home for 1 week due to school closeure. Does anybody know what could be wrong?
Avatar m tn ve had that feel in my index fingers and big toes sense I was in elementary school. I now have a host of other symptoms.
Avatar f tn Wow, never heard of a throwing up policy at elementary school and I was an elementary school principal. Usually we tried to deal with what was making him throw up. Anyway, you need professional help. I am also the CL on the ADHD forum. Based on prior experience and my years at elementary school - sounds like a severe case of anxiety. And I am guessing that it is due to having ADHD. The not going to sleep at night is a good symptom as is all your descriptions of him.

1310633 tn?1430224091 (CNN) -- A central Florida elementary school principal has been arrested on drug charges after a sting operation, authorities said Saturday. Avatar f tn Hi. About 4 weeks ago, my daughter told my husband and I that she was having violent thoughts of hurting others. These thoughts appeared to start after she was reprimanded by another parent for teasing their child. Prior to that incident, her childhood has been uneventful. My daughter was very upset with these thoughts. Since that time, she has had them intermittently along with "gross" thoughts about sex.
892510 tn?1327271996 I teach 3rd grade and I will be starting Hep C treatment soon, and will be taking Pegintron and Ribavirin. Are there any other elementary school teachers out there willing to share their experience in a similar situation? Have you been able to keep teaching? What has been the hardest thing about teaching while going through tx?
Avatar f tn She did for a few years when I was in elementary school and during those years my grades and behavior improved considerably. By 4th grade she decided to take me off them because she thought that I had "coped" with my learning disability. I was very knowledgeable as a youngster and elementary and jr high are not academically rigorous. So, I did well for a few years but I believe I would have learned more and been a lot more successful had I still been taking medication.
Avatar f tn Any of you mommas still in college? I'm heading towards a degree in elementary education! I'm a little over 9 weeks pregnant with mine and my husbands first baby! What are you guys in school for? And how much longer do you have?
1301089 tn?1290666571 This is very troubling that a child could disappear from school during school hours. When my children were in elementary school, if I didn't call the school reporting their office, their teacher always called me sometime in the morning to make sure everything was OK. We also got the automated call in the evening. Pray hard that he is found safe and sound.
Avatar n tn , He is only 5 soon to be 6 but having a hard time in school. He is in K and I am having him repeat as most of the kids are 6 and soon to be 7. He is definitely young and I am hoping he will mellow out in time but if he does have a sensory issue, I do not want to miss it. I feel like he is too young for ADHD testing to be valid. K is way too intense and there is not nearly enough movement/recess and social time allowed in school. K is more like 2nd grade.
Avatar n tn However, it is unusual for it to continue this long. I am guessing from my experience at elementary school that she saw or heard this somewhere and thought it was funny. And, this is where the ADHD kicks in. Kids with it do impulsive things without thinking. Ritalin should take care of this. However, she is on the lowest possible dose and it only lasts for 4 hours max. And then it takes about another 30 min. to kick in after the next dose.
Avatar n tn I had been a stay-at-home-mom to my five-year-old son and daughter (twins) since they were born. They're almost six now and have never attended daycare or preschool. They started Kindergarden this year (in seperate classes) and have both had some trouble adjusting. My son has gotten in trouble for not keeping his hands to himself (non-aggressive) and has been acting up and fooling around frequently during class.
649848 tn?1534633700 Sexual misconduct and abuse in schools are unfortunately not unheard of. Just last year, an elementary school in Los Angeles was rocked by a shocking sex scandal that involved two teachers and several young students. According to a February 2012 report by the Associated Press, Mark Berndt and Martin Springer, two teachers at Miramonte Elementary School, were arrested over allegations of lewd conduct.
20847364 tn?1534193200 I have been diagnosed with pinworms. But in late elementary school or early middle school, I had gotten pinworms and have forgotten about them since it's been about 8 years of living with them. I do have GERD, and with the symptoms recurring, my doctor believes I have IBS. Could having pinworms for so long be the reason as to why? Or could I have both? I am trying to weigh out the outcome as to what I actually have.

8432403 tn?1410269779 My husband and I have been best friends since elementary school and she was always very nice to me. I made the wrong choice and friend zoned him and ended up having a son from someone else but my husbands mom was always like "I know y'all are gonna be married" and telling my son "you're gonna be my grandson one day" Now that we are married and expecting shes freaking out. She keeps acting like we're 16...
Avatar n tn Really could you some more information. What grade is he in and when is his birthday? Did he have these problems in elementary school? You mention his behavior. What about his grades. Are they bad? If so, have they always been bad or when did they start to change. Oh, and was he in a private elementary school or public school. And, any big family changes or moves in the last two years? When you go to talk to the school. Do listen to what they say, and ask for suggestions.
Avatar m tn Talk with your school counselor if she is in middle school or you school principal if in elementary about getting help.
1530342 tn?1405016490 It remains unclear when the 436 surviving students at Sandy Hook will return to class, but when they do it will be in an unused school about 7 miles to the south in Monroe, Newtown School Superintendent Janet Robinson said. "The Town of Monroe has graciously offered their Chalk Hill School," Robinson said in a statement. "This facility, which is currently not being used, is in excellent condition and will accommodate all of the Sandy Hill School students and staff.
Avatar f tn Are these episodes happening in a similar time frame? For example, do they tend to happen as the dose is wearing off and right before another dose, or do they tend to happen when the ritalin is at its strongest (about an hour after taking the medication)? There's something called a "rebound effect" where the child goes from having too much ritalin in his system to too little ritalin, and the behavior bounces around accordingly.
