Please help me. My father was diagnosed with NSCLC (adenocarcinoma) in October. His left lung was removed and now he received 4 rounds of chemotherapy. The lymph nodes on the left side of the lung were effected and removed. He is receiving cisplatin and taxotere as his treatment. His brain scan, abdominal organs all were clear at the time of the diagnosis. Yesterday he had an abdominal ultrasound (not due to any complaints) which showed a 15 milimeter 'something" in the liver.

I was just diagnosed with stage 1c ovarian cancer, had both ovaries, uterus, and omentum removed 5 weeks ago. But during my appoitment on Tuesday with the UNC oncologist I was told no chemotherapy. I am confused. Do I need it or not??????

My grandfather was receiving chemotherapy last week and the nurse messed up and he received a bottle of medicine in 15 minutes, that normally takes 45 minutes to an hour. During which he lost his speech, but it came back in 5 minutes. Now he is having problems with his sight and his mouth is still numb. Do I need to find another Dr. or what? I know the symptoms are related to the mess up, and I just need some suggestions....

The decision to do chemotherapy during chemotherapy would be based on the estimated risk versus benefit in any individual case and would be decided by an oncologist. In general, the preference is not to do chemotherapy during the first trimester of pregnancy and to wait as long as is reasonable based on risk. The later in the pregnancy that chemotherapy is given, the less risk to the fetus. You should discuss this specifically with your oncologist and obstetrician.

well i had asked a question a few days back of possible risk on 2nd jan 2008 after which i did my ntibody test on 31st jan 2008 which was negative the possible risk was from oral i being the insertive partner with a sex worker and i waiting for my 3 months time for conclusive test but i am cancer patient will soon have my chemotherapy so if i am having chemotherapy and i tet after 3 months i thought my results will be affected or not

I will be having a hysterectomy mid July followed by chemotherapy. I don't feel that I have received much information about ovca from the oncologist. He has been out of town. He did tell me that I will be on Taxol/Carboplatnin. Is this the standard? What are the side affects? Will I definately lose my hair? What about weight loss? Any information would be informative. I can find info online but I would like to know about experiences instead of "facts.

Cisplatin and carboplatin are very similar. Advantage to having carbo over cisplatin is that carbo is not as hard on the kidneys. I am so very sorry that your mother has to deal with this. I know from experience how hard it is to see your mom have to fight ovca. I hope both you and she will come here for support. We are here for your family. I wish her the best possible outcome.

She stopped Letrozole after 6 weeks as no response. Her CA is now 4800 after having had approx. 4 mths or 5 off chemo. Her scan says prog. dis at mulitple sites. Sais liver serosa fulciform ligament is 31mm from 22mm. surface of segment 7 also. Splenic hilum 16mm focus. Increased omental disease. Small vol ascites in pelvis.Focus of disease anterior to pancreatic head increased to 42mm from 9mm. Pls can you explain this report and how you see this.

I am a 25 year old female. I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in June 2008 and underwent surgery to remove it. It was the size of an apple and diagnosed a grade 2 tumor. It grew back in September 2008 and that's when i began rigorous radiation and oral chemotherapy (Temozolomide). My recent MRI has showed the regrowth of the tumor to be "gone." The plan is to take the Temozolomide for 2 years along with Accutane (which helps the oral chemotherapy work better).

Before surgery, no enlarged lymph nodes could be felt by examination, and no positive for cancer lymphnodes were detected by Ultrasound and/or MRI either. My surgeon was suspicious though, and it only came out during the operation that about 16 out od 22 lymph nodes were positive for cancer and this following 6 treatments with chemotherapy. The chemo did well on the breast but not on the nodes.

Also it is not fair to give the chemotherapy right now, since last chemotherapy cycle (5 cycle) had ended during June2011. He asked to check with him in case of any severe pain or swelling occurs within a month.
