I went to wash my hands after and a huge gush of water came out I guess it was the last of it. Immediately after my contractions went from barable to excruciating. Finally the aneastiogist got there after 2hrs. The epidural wasn't that bad it was sitting still through contractions while getting it done that was terrible. About ten minutes after I was in heaven. The epidural is a wonderful thing. I reached 10cms around 1am and pushed for 2 1/2 hrs. It was either c section or try forceps.

I am a 63 yr old female. At age 28 I had a traumatic emergency forceps delivery of my son. Afterwards I was catheterized. 24 hours later, removal of the catheter was attempted by several nurses, all of whom failed. Consequently, a urologist was called in who used a needle to pop the balloon and remove the catheter. For many months I was in constant pain and experienced UTIs off and on.
I had my little girl by forceps delivery on 04/01/2008 and suffered a 3 degree tear. This was stitched and seems to have healed, slowly, but it has healed. However, since the delivery of my daughter I have continued to bleed. on 20/02/2008 the bleeding seemed to stop to clear lochia, however, the next day started again, a very bright red and has continued ever since. I constantly feel tired and very heavy like I have a prolapsed womb. Sounds silly, buts thats the only way I can describe it.
I dont know about the statistics but in my case induction led to a forceps delivery. I think the majority of interventions be them csections, forceps or vaccum are due to the same reason as mine, the baby was not in the optimum position for delivery, or mum has tired too much to be able to push baby out alone.
Our baby arrived Sunday afternoon 3days ahead of schedule she is amazing. I live in the UK and can not rate the midwife's highly enough. I had a natural birth however needed forceps to aid delivery and I've been quite ill after so had to stay in hospital for 3 nights but they allowed my partner to stay so I wasn't alone.
I had it done due to having a forceps delivery. I didn't feel a thing as I had an epidural but after it was incredibly sore. Plenty of pain relief and I had warm salt baths to help the healing process. I think its a pretty common procedure as lots of ladies nees that extra bit of help to give birth by using an instrument. Having said that everyone is different and I didn't have it till the very last 10mins and it was so quick I didn't really have time to think about it.

Will try to go natural but may have an epidural, no epesiotomy unless medically necessary, cord attached to baby for a few minutes after birth, skin to skin contact and feeding soon after ter birth, no bottle feedings from hospital, keep baby with me after birth. That's it as of now after terms I'm only 15+5!
Other issues you may want to address during delivery is the issue of forceps and vacuum extraction. If baby is truly stuck then forceps or vacuum should be a last ditch effort. Make sure your doctor isn't forcep-happy so you don't end up with an unnecessary forceps extraction. Usually birthing in a position that really opens up the pelvis, like squatting, will prevent the need for the use of forceps or a vacuum anyway.
A big fear women have is the dreaded episiotomy.
