Avatar n tn hI, my son now 15 underwent treatment and a bone marrow transplant for Neouroblastoma at the age of four. He's been on growth hormone treatment for 3 years now but with no result. He's only 144cm tall and his endocrinologist says there's no hope because his bones have finished growing and the only suggestion is the bone stretching surgery. Can anyone suggest anything else?
Avatar f tn In terms of growth hormone, prematurity and intraventricular hemorrhage are not generally associated with growth hormone deficiency unless there are problems with other hormones also. It is most likely that your granddaughter's small size is due to her former general illness and prematurity. Babies like her need a tremendous amount of nutrition to achieve "catch up" growth, which can sometimes be hard to obtain if she doesn't eat extremely well.
Avatar m tn We went to have multiple tests done and they confirmed that im producing next to no growth hormone, or something of that nature. Over the last couple years, I noticed that my friends have been getting taller, while im not. They said that if I dont get hormone injections, my platelets? will close and i wont grow at all. I am considering it and am wondering if there are any severe side effects the medication may have.
Avatar n tn She is definitely short and body weight is too high for her height, glad to see you saw an endo. She is gh deficient and this is a very good reason for central obesity(more weight around the tummy) and short stature!!! Do not feel overwhelmed, this is good news, she has a chance for treatment, the mri is done on all of my patients before treatment is started, the best websites to go over gh include magicfoundation.
Avatar m tn Anyone have thoughts on promoting natural secretion of human growth hormone (hGH)?
Avatar m tn If your daughter is 12, actually the treatments are not really cosmetic. growth hormone while the name says growth, actually has more functions and some are very subtle like sleep and some are more real like muscle growth and bone growth. The social stigma of being different at this age can also have lasting effects - so if she starts to lose a lot of height and gets behind her peers, she may lose friends. It sounds shallow - but it really hurts and it does happen. It is just that age group.

Avatar f tn Those tests are NOT sufficient for growth hormone - those tests are GH (growth hormone) and IGF-1 (which is the derivative hormone that that body actually uses). TSH is a pituitary hormone but often doctors will say it is normal and it is not. There can be a relationship, but I know more about low GH than elevated GH throwing things off frankly (sorry, I have low GH, not high). Now, being tall itself is not always a GH issue - it can be just... growth!
Avatar m tn is the growth hormone in a normal range for a 23 year old? and i also took a blood test at my gp and for chemistries my liver function and kidney function is fine and my thyroid(tsh) is at 1.344 which is also normal.
Avatar n tn There is something called growth hormone you may want to ask if it can still be given in your age group, have you had a bone age xray ?
Avatar n tn If his bone age is not advanced, I would rather wait longer to start his growth hormone instead of now. since his bone scan of May was not read corectly. I am not sure how fast his bone age is growing now. I am just wodnering if Lupron will be helpful.
Avatar m tn And if so, why? Could it be the growth hormones in our food and water? I understand growth hormones contribute to the younger puberty ages in girls now, could it also mess up our hormones and give us these cysts? Just some of my thoughts lately.
Avatar f tn He has recently been diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. His MRI revealed an 8mm pineal cyst and a 5mm pars intermedia cyst interposed between the anterior and posterior pituitary tissue. He also has a lot of fatigue and gets frequent headaches/nausea. He will be starting growth hormone but we've been told that he cannot start the hormones until he sees the neurosurgeon (which is in a couple of weeks). Do you think the cysts may have caused his growth failure?
Avatar f tn (male,30) I have a history of low testosterone and low human growth hormone. Didnt have psudo tumor till I started the Growth Hormone treatments. Im thinking this was a very bad side effect. Do Your homework and see more docs. I let em put in a shunt, and havent been well since.
Avatar f tn I heard about gigantism in which people grow upto 8 ft tall, which is because of pituitory gland malfunction, producing too much growth hormone. I recently had Testosterone and thyroid tests done, which came out to be absolutely normal. But no tests were given for Growth Hormone. My concern is if testosterone and thyroid tests suffient to diagnose gigantism?? Is there any relationship between Testosterone, Thyroid and Growth Hormone?? Is my pituitory gland alright? Am I normal?
Avatar n tn Growth hormone-producing tumors These tumors make growth hormone. Too much growth hormone can cause acromegaly (the hands, feet, and face are larger than normal) or gigantism (the whole body grows much larger than normal). Nonfunctioning pituitary tumors Nonfunctioning tumors do not produce hormones. Symptoms such as headache or trouble seeing may be caused by the tumor pressing on nearby brain tissue.
Avatar m tn The interconnected relationship between IGF1 and growth hormone is referred to as the Growth Hormone/IGF1 Axis. The growth of the skeletal muscle cells (hypertrophy) is mostly regulated by at least three identified processes, satellite cell activity , gene transcription, protein translation. IGF1 can influence the 3 above mechanisms.
Avatar f tn Hi there, this is a hormonal problem where you have increased testosterone hormone. You can see your doctor for advice on hormonal treatment. In the mean time use a hair removal product to manage hair growth. This is quite a common problem for women (not all) post menopause.
Avatar m tn When your pituitary is compressed - and it probably is, then the pituitary is being impacted. Growth hormone is often the first hormone to go - has that been tested? That has a lot of the same symptoms of Cushing's. Nice that the doc is predicting the results - plus you need do several sets of tests in order to diagnose Cushing's. Get copies of what you have, and find a competent neuro-endo.
Avatar f tn How exactly should hair growth that is very severe under chin area be dealt with ?
Avatar f tn I have a damaged pituitary and Hashi's. My Growth Hormone blood test is 0.03 [0.01-8.00] I'm a 49yr old female, abnormal on all sex hormones. What is the normal for someone my age? I asked the doc if I need replacement GH and he says he doesn't know. When I called the ins. company about coverage, they asked for a diagnosis and treatment code, and I don't know these.
