Avatar f tn My mother was diagnosed in her early 40s with graves disease and her thyroid was removed, around the same time she was diagnosed with stage 3-4 colon cancer. I'm aware there are connections between autoimmune diseases and thyroid and intestinal diseases/conditions. As I'm getting older I'm noticing I'm following in the same physiological footsteps my mother did before she was diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Thank you for taking the time to respond. I have since been to an endocrinologist am taking 20 mg of Methimazole. To clear up the confusion, I posted an incorrect value for my TSH--it should have read <0.03, hence the diagnosis of Grave's. My free T3 was 8.00. Good catch.
Avatar f tn I am 27 years old ... have had thyroid problems since pregnant with my daughter almost two years ago! they were watching my thyroid levels prior to that pregnancy though. They say that I have hypothyroidism (thyroid don't work) buut I also have antibodies for graves disease ... although my thyroid jumps from hypo to hyper frequantly ... my question is will I ALWAYS have the antibodies for Graves disease? Makes it possible to get graves disease and most importantly ... is it heretitery?
Avatar f tn In the mid august I had my second visit with the endocrinologist who continued insisting with Graves disease. When I questioned her about the absence of Graves antibodies she responded that I had the abTG antibodies to confirm the diagnosis. Now, one month after my latest tests, I am confident I have entered hypothyroidism. I have been eating less, yet I have gained 2-3pounds in 10 days. I am sure it's water retention. I feel a bit tired. My last period came 4 days earlier than usual!
Avatar f tn On what grounds were you diagnosed with Graves Disease? Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin is the definitive antibody test for Graves, so if they didn't do that, you may not have it. There's another autoimmune thyroid disease called Hashimoto's that's, typically, associated with hypothyroidism, but is often characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism in the early stages.
Avatar n tn "The "Ask a Doctor" forum has been shut down since June 2014; MedHelp has not indicated whether or not they plan to reactivate it." - Wikipedia. Excerpt from Hashimoto's thyroiditis following Graves' disease. Acta Med Indones. 2010 Jan;42(1):31-5.... "Pathogenesis for chronic thyroiditis following anti-thyroid drug treatment in patients with Graves' disease remains unclear.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in Nov. 2007 and put on synthroid 50mcg. I was test back a month ago and my blood work came back ok. The fatigue is still there and it is pretty bad. I get up in the morning and a couple hours later I am so tired that I can't seem to stay awake long enough to focus to even do my house chores. Could this be due to my thyroid?
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with Graves Disease or did you have a hyper phase of Hashimoto's? Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism and remains that way; Hashimoto's often starts out with hyperthyroidism that alternates with hypothyroidism or periods of normal, but, eventually, settles into permanent hypothyroidism that requires replacement thyroid medication... What medication did you take, what dosage and why did you stop taking it?
Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
Avatar f tn What med are you taking? What are the actual T3/T4 levels and are they Free T3 and Free T4 or Total T3 and Total T4? Be sure to include reference ranges with any labs posted. Have you been tested for Graves Disease or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Both are autoimmune diseases that attack the thyroid. All Graves Disease is hyperthyroidism, but not all hyperthyroidism is Graves Disease.
Avatar f tn hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole! my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
Avatar m tn No, methimazole can't cure Graves Disease; nothing can. Once you have it, you have it for life, even if you have your thyroid removed or it goes into remission.
Avatar n tn I forgot to say that, yes, the wrong amount of Armour can cause problems because too much thyroid hormones can cause hyperthyroidism and too little can cause hypothyroidism, but it can’t cause Graves Disease. You, either have Graves Disease or you don’t.
Avatar f tn s is, typically, associated with hypothyroidism, as described above, Graves Disease is always associated with hyperthyroidism. Graves Disease does not swing back and forth between hyper and hypo, as you're doing... If you haven't had the antibody tests, you certainly need them in order to determine what's going on. In order to diagnose Hashimoto's, your need to have Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb) tested.
Avatar n tn t ever tested for it until they have symptoms of the resulting hypothyroidism. Slightly elevated TPOab can also be present with Graves Disease, which is another thyroid disease, and there are those, that have both Hashi's and Graves. It may also be possible, though rare, for someone with Hashimoto's or Graves not to develop hypo or hyperthyroidism.
Avatar m tn Back in the 90's I was diagnosed with Graves Disease. I was treated with radioactive iodine and placed on syntroid. I haven't had any bad side effects over the years. At the end of Dec, 2012, my Doctor lowered my Levothyroxine from .20mg to .15mg. A few weeks later I began experiencing some confusion, constipation, dry skin, aversion to the cold, overall fatigue, gaining weight while not eating much and blotting.
Avatar m tn I am going to try to get my t3 and t4 levels tested in a few days. Thyroid problems run in the family....graves disease, hypothyroidism, and thyroid cancer. What are my possibilities???HELP!!!
Avatar f tn i have graves disease with tumors . my third generation thyroid is 17.200 what does this mean?
