Avatar m tn I would totally agree that one would not want to delay treatment with Graves Disease. I don't have it, but I've read the horror stories; I'd much rather deal with the hypo/Hashi's. While natural treatments are all the rage and work in some cases, for some people, there are those instances in which you can't take chances. Being hyper, with Graves is one of those times.
1674106 tn?1403379490 * Anti-thyroid medication (first choice for treatment in uncomplicated Graves' disease): Methimazole (Tapazole) Propylthiouracil (PTU) Carbimazole (Neomercazole) - not available in the US Anti-thyroid medications decrease the level of thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The goal with anti-thyroid drug treatment is to decrease the thyroid antibodies and induce remission.
Avatar n tn Graves Disease cannot be cured...sorry to say you have it for life. As for the natural 'way', I have never come across anyone who has succeeded in 'controlling ' Graves with natural therapies alone. If you do have Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism, you are at high risk of thyroid storm (atrial fibraillation) if not on anti-thyroid medications which can result in a massive heart attack or even death. I am not trying to scare you in anyway...
Avatar f tn My doctor won't diagnose me with graves disease but when reading message boards, people say anything over 2% is graves. If I have this, how can I cure it naturally? I can't take medication. TSI (Normal) 113 TSH 0.02 (Low) Range is (0.035 - 4.67) T3 Free 5.84 (high) Range is (1.45 - 3.48 ) T4 Free 2.00 (high) Range is (0.70 - 1.
Avatar n tn I also have graves disease dxd Dec 2007. Like you, my graves disease began right around the time that I wanted to start a family & I had all the same symptoms as you. Fortunately the PTU is working for me. I have decided to have surgery, but I am waiting until January for other reasons. My Endo says that you can get pregnant sooner after surgery, vs RAI you have to wait 6-12 mos before TTC.
1314073 tn?1282841674 I was just diagnosed with Graves Disease. I've been doing reasearch on the Internet and now I am TERRIFIED! Are my eyes going to bulge and my hair fall out? Does this happen to everyone with Graves Disease. I know this sounds vain, but fear is fear and this is all I can think about. Thanks for any help you can give me.
2059648 tn?1439766665 (1) autoimmune (often subclinical) hypothyroidism; (2) destructive thyroiditis; and (3) Graves' hyperthyroidism. These abnormalities can occur at any time during IFN therapy, from as early as 4 weeks until as late as 23 months after initiation,[6,9] and there is no clear difference between the three types, with a median date of onset of 17 weeks after start of IFN treatment.[10] Pooling of several studies shows that hypothyroidism seems to be more frequent than thyrotoxicosis ( Table 4 ).
Avatar n tn s an autoimmune disease that unfortunately always plagues you in one shape or another even after the radiated iodine treatment. Since thyroid disease runs in my family, and I have borderline hyperthyroid tendencies, I always keep an eye on the thyroid board on MedHelp. The folks there are very knowledgeable. You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places. Take care.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with graves disease and had the radioactive treatment to destroy it a few years back. I have had a few times where I did not have my meds for a week at a time. Is it normal to feel so tired and cranky? Also I took Zirtec for my allergies and I felt like I was cloudy and just wanted to sleep and tightness in my chest..... I am currently on 137 mcg of Levothyroxine.
15915009 tn?1488868338 I was wondering if I'm going to need any treatment in the future for Graves Disease. I've been on anti-thyroid pills for 1 1/2 now. How long is the average time to be on anti-thyroid pills and if I'm going to need RAI or thyroidectomy (which scare me) later in life?
Avatar f tn I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years with no success. I finally found out that I was pregnant the beginning of last year and made it to 4 months and suffered a miscarriage for no apparent reason.
Avatar n tn I have had steroids for my eyes and and tapazole nothing has worked. I have toxic nodoles along with Graves disease. I have changed my diet and tried different things what do you suggest. I'm not sleeping, I have gained most of my weight back with increased heart beat. What can I do.
Avatar f tn Last year I was diagnosed with Graves disease and had a radioactive ablation done in April. Sometime around March of 2009, my eyelids became puffy and my eyes were usually watery. I called my Endocrinologist and asked if this was related to my thyroid and she sugg. I visit my Primary Care Dr. I did and he followed an allergy path. I finally went to an allergist who said that allergies may be playing a role, it was not the primary cause.
Avatar f tn In the USA there is a tendency to use more I-131, but in many other countries (and in our office) we often use anti-thyroid meds such as methimazole for Graves and consider surgery for treatment as well. If it is a hot nodule, then would recommend either I-131 or surgery (w/ an expert thyroid surgeon).
Avatar f tn my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
Avatar n tn If your TPO is at the level you say then you have an Autoimmune Disease (Graves) and eventually you will have no choice but permanant treatment as Graves is very hard to treat. In the meantime....keep doing what your Doctor says BUT research all you can on Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism as this is something you will need to know eventually. Dont go for RAI or permanant treatment until you know for sure that yr thyroid is uncontrollable.

Avatar f tn My fiance' was diagnosed with Graves Disease late last year. Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.
Avatar f tn very puffy eyelids top and bottm and I notice my eyes are crossed at times. My Dr again says its just a part of having graves disease. Can you please give me some direction? Is there any hope for my eyes. I've even tried several eye Dr's. MRI, US, Ct Scans. all I'm told shows nothing except it's associated with my thyroid disese. Please help me. Thank you. Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 28 year old woman and was diagnosed with graves disease 3 years ago. I have commented o many forums regarding my problem but would like your advice. I was treated with radio active iodine in 2006 and then became hypothyroid, I now take 150mg of levothyroxine daily. I have never suffered from graves opthalmology as far as i'm aware. For the last 6 months I have had a chronic daily headache. This started 3 days after purchasing new glasses.
