my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
Graves Eye Disease , caused or mad worse by the Iodine treatment. If you think Graves Disease is bad? Let me tell you Graves Disease is a walk in the park compared to the EYES being messed up. Let no Endo rush you into that fast cheap fix. Make sure you are eating properly and see a eye doctor to check for Graves Opthamology. I can tell you this, after being Hyper ..... Hypo is no fun at all. When are used to having tons of energy, having none is pure hades.
If your TPO is at the level you say then you have an Autoimmune Disease (Graves) and eventually you will have no choice but permanant treatment as Graves is very hard to treat.
In the meantime....keep doing what your Doctor says BUT research all you can on Graves Disease and Hyperthyroidism as this is something you will need to know eventually.
Dont go for RAI or permanant treatment until you know for sure that yr thyroid is uncontrollable.
One thing to keep in mind that ANY autoimmune attack is directly related to a weak immune system and if that is not fixed pinpointing ANY treatment - medically or alternatively soley based on thyroid treatment will be difficult. Its not just thyroid levels - its the body and knowing what you lack in the immune system can sometimes balance the endocrine levels back out.
My fiance' was diagnosed with Graves Disease late last year. Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.

they done a iodeine scan this is when i was told it was graves disease and that they were considering radiation treatment or removal but this new doc is the one who says hes going to stop the meds. i have read a lot of the comments on here about feeling cold and sore and other symptoms which i have so im making an appointment to go see my gp thanks for your help.
Graves Disease is never cured BUT it is managed better without a thyroid or after RAI.
You still have the antibodies but no thyroid for it to attack.
As for meds, you swap one lot for another.
You go from anti-thyroid meds to a T4 medication so basically you are on meds for life.
The thyroid regulates every organ in your body and if no thyroid, meds have to do the job.
Hyperthyroidism is a lot easier to manage without a thyroid.
All of your labs are over the reference ranges (except TSH) and indicate that you have hyperthyroidism, of which Graves Disease is the main cause and since your TSI is definitely positive, that would be your diagnosis.
Some people do have, both, Hashimoto's and Graves Disease at the same time, with one or the other dominant...

Graves Disease is an Autoimmune Disease and usually when one autoimmune disease is found, there is usually a 2nd one found (this one being Diabetes).
The Graves and Hyperthyroidism can be treated by either anti-thyroid meds or pernmanant treatment which will eventually stablaise the Diabetes although this is extremely hard if the Diabetes has been undetected for a long time.
And something to watch for is ...Metformin can interefer with thyroid medications.
iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01.
what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?
Many of us have nodules on our thyroid and most of them need no treatment, unless they cause some sort of issue or are cancerous, which is quite rare.
Nodules are quite common with autoimmune thyroid disease, such as Hashimoto's and/or Graves Disease. Do you know if you have either of these?
Hashimoto's is most often associate with hypothyroidism (low thyroid levels), but can be characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism, as well.

While I would have to do some checking around on this can you post the reason for the removal? - Is it for Graves disease?
s Disease is an auto-immune disease that MAKES your thyroid the problem. The only treatment for the disease is to treat the thyroid.
It sounds like you were rushed into making a choice, which is too bad. Had you been given six months or a year to mull it over, you probably would have still chosen RAI over the other two choices.
