I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.

Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (TSI) is the definitive test to diagnose Graves Disease. Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb) are both needed to diagnose Hashimoto's). You should also ask for a thyroid ultrasound to check for nodules, since, sometimes, nodules produce hormones on their own, independently of the thyroid. Hope you're feeling better.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I have graves & thyroid eye disease too. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. If you have active thyroid eye disease, please, do not have any more RAI, it will worsen you eyes. You have a complicated case due to Graves & toxic nodules. The Graves may be treated with the RAI but the toxic nodules can still be excreting thyroid hormone keeping you hyper.! Are you seeing an endocrinologist or a thyroid specialist?

Oh wow!!!! You really said you'd "rather deal with hyper thyroid than no thyroid'?!? I have hashi's AND graves' and there comes a point when you are so sick and tired of hearing "lets just wait and see" from the doctors...These disorders ROB you of a normal life and "dealing" with them for some of us is not an option....

Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???

Im 7 weeks preganant with my first and I have Graves disease which is a thyroid autoimmune disease. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced pregnancy with this disease or something similar??

s an autoimmune disease that unfortunately always plagues you in one shape or another even after the radiated iodine treatment. Since thyroid disease runs in my family, and I have borderline hyperthyroid tendencies, I always keep an eye on the thyroid board on MedHelp. The folks there are very knowledgeable. You may want to pop in there for some advice as well. Both diseases (FM and Graves symptoms overlap) Make sure you stop back in both places. Take care.

I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. iam apatient who suffers graves disease. My question is : Although I am almost 4 months on Carbamizole treatment 60 mg + Taking inderal ( propanalol), but the levels of my T4 & T3 are still high and the levels of TSH is less than 0.01. what do you think , should i sstop the medication and think of the other allternatives like the radioactive iodine or surgical removal?

my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!

I also have Graves disease and from my understanding you are never "cured", but, once your thyroid is either dead or you have it removed you should no longer be suffering from the symptoms. Except the protruding eyes, that is the only symptom that they can't reverse. That you are going to have to live with for the rest of your life. That's why it's so important to get treated before that happens. I would say that your tiredness is from being perimenopausal.

Also, see a good ophthalmologist who treats thyroid eye disease sooner rather than later, as it will be better if the disease is followed from its early stages. I hope you don't have Graves Eye Disease, as it is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Good luck to you.

If it is a hot nodule, then would recommend either I-131 or surgery (w/ an expert thyroid surgeon). If Graves, then we try methimazole first (usually at doses of 5-20mg/day), if that is not working then discuss pros/cons of I-131 vs surgery which is a decision that should be customized to the individual patient.

Hello. I'm 36 and I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I have Graves' disease and had radiation treatment back in 2009. I hadn't been taking my thyroxine constantly for a few months as I was super stressed and now that I am pregnant haven't missed a dose. My thyroid levels are still very high and I'm worried that this will affect my baby's brain development/IQ levels. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I'm scared and worried.

No, methimazole can't cure Graves Disease; nothing can. Once you have it, you have it for life, even if you have your thyroid removed or it goes into remission.

I am 27 years old ... have had thyroid problems since pregnant with my daughter almost two years ago! they were watching my thyroid levels prior to that pregnancy though. They say that I have hypothyroidism (thyroid don't work) buut I also have antibodies for graves disease ... although my thyroid jumps from hypo to hyper frequantly ... my question is will I ALWAYS have the antibodies for Graves disease? Makes it possible to get graves disease and most importantly ... is it heretitery?
