hi i'm a 28 yr old woman and have suffered badly with symptoms from graves disease for 3yrs i've been on propylthiouracil for a year now as i had a severe allergic reaction to carbimazole!
my symptoms include insomnia,severe fatigue,anxiety,bouts of depression,poor concentration,memory loss,bruising easily,dizziness,nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.
I was diagnosed with Graves disease 11 years ago. My endo prescribed Methimazole, which I was allergic to, so he told me he didn't want to prescribe me anything else because sometimes the allergy kills the thyroid. It apparently did, because all of a sudden I was hypo and I had to go on synthroid. Since then, I lost my health insurance and got handled by my PCP instead of the endo (cheaper).
I believe the statistic is less than 50% of those who have Graves thyroid disease develop any symptoms of Graves Eye Disease. Each is caused by different sets of antibodies. Some people get eye disease without ever having thyroid problems. And, of those with Graves/thyroid who do develop eye disease, only about 5% of those ever develop serious enough eye problems (bulging, eyelid retraction, double vision, optic nerve issues) to warrant surgery.
My husband has been taking Synthroid for five years now due to an underactive thyroid. He has always looked more like an overactive thyroid patient in that he is very thin 6'.0" @ 160 lbs. He does have prominent eyes and has been asked by many doctors if ever diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He has been experiencing symptoms that we now see are consistant with hyperthyroidism for a couple of months. He had his level checked today and the T4 was 17, normal was said to be 6.1 - 12.2.

At first my endocrinologist was reluctant to prescribe more than a token amount of levosynthroid, although I was becoming symptomatic with hypothyroid symptoms. She feared Graves disease returning. Something we did not expect was him having Aortic Stenosis. Graves Disease causes numerous symptoms so we thought it was the disease causing his heart problems. He just took the treatment for the Graves so it's going to be a month or so before the treatment starts to show some results. He has another test scheduled next week with an Interventional Cardiologist.

I was diagnosed with graves disease and had the radioactive treatment to destroy it a few years back. I have had a few times where I did not have my meds for a week at a time. Is it normal to feel so tired and cranky? Also I took Zirtec for my allergies and I felt like I was cloudy and just wanted to sleep and tightness in my chest..... I am currently on 137 mcg of Levothyroxine.
Not much to add other than time will tell. The importatnt question is are you taking an ATD? Also remember that not everyone is textbook, so you can't always compare things like PPT patterns with what you read on the net. This even holds true with graves/hyper, everyones pattern is different, and many of us don't even have the symptoms on the list, and many of us have symptoms that didn't make the list. You should have a more clear picture after the TSI test is run.
Do you know if you have Graves Disease? Not all hyperthyroidism is caused by Graves. Do you know if you ANY autoimmune disease?
An autoimmune disease is one in which antibodies attack and eventually destroy the thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism is most often connected to Graves Disease, while hypothyroidism is generally connected to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. It is possible to have both Graves and Hashi's.
I am a 25 y/o female diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 16 and later with Graves Disease and Goiter. I have been on Tapazol along with Atenelol (for the Tachacardia) off and on for the past 9 years with no results. Every doc I see wants to discuss nothing but RAI or surgery. Symptoms include insomnia, diarrhea, weight loss, anxiety, elevated heart rate and blood pressure, mentstrual disturbances, etc. If you google "hyperthyroid symptoms", you can take a look at the long list.
You should get into the habit of asking for a printed copy of all your blood work and keeping your own history. You have to educate yourself and be your own advocate.
Your doctor should order a TSI test.
